C.D.C. Weighs Advising Everyone To Wear a Mask

Widespread use of nonmedical masks could reduce community transmission. But recommending their broad use could also cause a run on the kind of masks that health care workers desperately need. From a report: Should healthy people be wearing masks when they’re outside to protect themselves and others? Both the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have repeatedly said that ordinary citizens do not need to wear masks unless they are sick and coughing. And as health care workers around the world face shortages of N95 masks and protective gear, public health officials have warned people not to hoard masks. But those official guidelines may be shifting.

On Monday during the coronavirus task force briefing, President Trump was asked whether Americans should wear nonmedical masks. “That’s certainly something we could discuss,” he said. “It could be something like that for a limited period of time.” Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the C.D.C., confirmed in an interview with National Public Radio on Monday that the agency was reviewing its guidelines on who should wear masks. Citing new data that shows high rates of transmission from people who are infected but show no symptoms, he said the guidance on mask wearing was “being critically re-reviewed, to see if there’s potential additional value for individuals that are infected or individuals that may be asymptomatically infected.” The coronavirus is probably three times as infectious as the flu, Dr. Redfield said.

Apple’s new MacBook Air and Mac Mini are already discounted

Collage of devices and software for sale.

Today’s Dealmaster is headlined by a couple of early deals on the entry-level models of Apple’s latest MacBook Air and Mac Mini. The former is down to $950 at Amazon, a $50 discount, while the latter is down to $699 at B&H, a $100 discount. These offers are fairly modest, but they’re still noteworthy considering Apple only launched the new computers a couple weeks ago.

We gave the new MacBook Air a favorable review earlier this month, calling it “a really good laptop, and easy to recommend.” Have a look there for the full rundown, but the new Air is still very well-built, now comes with more base storage at 256GB, and most importantly, comes with a new “Magic Keyboard” that should be much more agreeable and durable than the ultra-low-travel “butterfly” keyboards of recent models.

The new Mac Mini, meanwhile, is essentially identical to the refreshed model Apple released in 2018, but with the base storage bumped from 128GB to 256GB. Otherwise, it remains the lowest-cost and most compact way to bring macOS into a desktop environment for more casual tasks. This offer is $200 cheaper than the previous-gen 256GB Mac Mini’s current going rate.

Oh Wow: 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Movie Trailer Recreated Near Perfectly With Stop Motion

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release, stop motion team Reckless Abandonment (that’s what I live my life with too) recreated the trailer for the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie with high quality NECA action figures and 3,500 photographs. It’s pretty amazing. They were also kind enough to provide a side-by-side comparison video with the actual trailer for reference, which was appreciated because I don’t remember it. My brain, well, it’s– “It’s garbage.” Are you here to read to me? “Huh?” Did they send you to read to me? Read to me. Here — from this. “A nudie mag?” My eyes are trash too, describe the breasts to me in detail. “They’re big.” Boyoyoyoing!

Keep going for the video. And for the record I’m not even a big breast guy, I’m an any breast guy. This is all a work of historical fiction.

Linux Mint 20 is 64-bit Only, Based on Ubuntu 20.04, and Named 'Ulyana'

An anonymous reader shares a report: Today, we learn some new details about the upcoming Linux Mint 20. While most of the newly revealed information is positive, there is one thing that is sure to upset many Linux Mint users. First things first, Linux Mint 20 will be based on the upcoming Ubuntu 20.04. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Mint only uses Long Term Support versions of Ubuntu, and 20.04 will be an LTS. We also now know the name of Linux Mint 20. The Mint team always uses female names, and this time they chose “Ulyana.” This is apparently a Russian name meaning “youthful.” So far, all of the news is positive, so what exactly will upset some users? The Linux Mint developers are finally dropping 32-bit support and will only produce 64-bit ISOs.

Ring Fit Adventure Is A Sweaty Ray Of Hope During Self-Isolation

Like most people, I haven’t been moving around much these days. Aside from a daily walk, I only use my body to move around the tight circuit of my house: desk, sofa, microwave, bed. My fingers see the most action. I type emails to friends I haven’t spoken to in years and wash my hands over and over until the skin…
