Tesla Cars Will Soon Be Able To Stream Netflix and YouTube

Tesla car owners will soon be able to stream videos from Netflix and YouTube from the dashboard, CEO Elon Musk said. Musk wrote that the displays in cars will “soon” be able to stream YouTube and Netflix. The software feature that enables this support could arrive as soon as next month, he said in response to a tweet. The video streaming would only work when the car has stopped — how Tesla currently handles video games playback. In another tweet, he said the dashboard would offer “an amazingly immersive, cinematic experience” because of the car’s surround sound and chairs.

Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood… annotated

Let’s get this out of the way first: This is not a complete recounting of every single pop culture reference in Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood. To claim as much would be hubris. No, this is simply the best The A.V. Club could do after two back-to-back viewings of Quentin Tarantino’s latest, the second of which was…

The Westworld Sequel Futureworld Is Low on Killer Robots, But High on Sci-Fi Cheese

Futureworld came out in August 1976. The sequel to Michael Crichton’s Westworld—which tweaks the original’s cautionary tale of technology run wild—hasn’t aged entirely well, especially when compared to the sleek HBO series. But if retro goofiness is what you seek, step right up.

Grand Theft Auto Maker Has Paid No UK Corporation Tax in 10 Years

Rockstar North, the Edinburgh-based developer of Grand Theft Auto, has paid no corporation tax over the past 10 years, despite making billions in revenue for its parent company Take-Two Interactive, while claiming more than $52m in tax relief. From a report: A report from the investigative thinktank TaxWatch UK estimates Rockstar Games’ operating profit at $5bn between 2013 and 2019, during which time the company released Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) and Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar North is part of Rockstar Games. GTA V has sold more than 100m copies, making it one of the most profitable entertainment products of all time. It racked up $1.2bn in its first three days on sale in 2013. According to Take-Two earnings reports, GTA V’s online component, GTA Online, has generated hundreds of millions in revenue. But the company paid no corporation tax between 2009 and 2018. It received $52m in tax credits from the government’s video games tax relief scheme, which was set up in 2014 to bolster the UK’s $6.1bn games industry, much of which is made up of small and medium-sized developers. The sum is equivalent to 19% of the total relief paid to the entire UK games industry since 2014, TaxWatch reports.

Cool: Man Makes Video With A 100-Year Old, World War I Era Camera Lens

video-made-with-100-year-old-lens.jpg

This is a video shot around Vienna, Austria by Mathieu Stern, who removed the lens from a Kodak Vest Pocket Kodak (a Kodak camera first released in 1912, and “the camera of choice for the soldiers in the First World War”), and managed to attach it to a new Sony Sony Alpha 7 III with the help of “an M42 helicoidal adapter with an M42 to C mount adapter and some rubber bands from an old bike tire” to see what the resulting video would look like. SPOILER: beautiful. It does have a vintage feel to it, although I’m not sure why. “Because it was shot with a 100 year old lens.” MAYBE. I especially liked the clip from the zoo of the baby flamingo that falls trying to climb the hill then tries to play it off like it didn’t just eat shit in front of a bunch of strangers. I do that all the time.

Keep going for the video.

'5 Programming Languages That Are Probably Doomed'

An anonymous reader shares a report: Not all programming languages endure forever. In fact, even the most popular ones inevitably crumble away, as new generations of developers embrace other languages and frameworks they find easier to work with. In order to determine which programming languages are likely doomed in the medium- to long-term, we looked at the popularity rankings by TIOBE and RedMonk, as well as Dice’s own database of job postings. If your career is based on any of the following languages, we suggest diversifying your skill-set at some point: Ruby, Haskell, Objective-C, R, and Perl.
