Very few first-time filmmakers start off with a film that’s largely set on water, with scenes underwater, about a…

Warner Bros says Back 4 Blood racial slur was “unintentional”

A number of players taking part in the recent beta test for co-op zombie shooter Back 4 Blood were shocked to hear the undead hordes screaming what seemed to be a racial slur as they shambled forward. Now, publisher WB Games says it is working to fix an audio phenomenon it says was an “unintended” result of two separate sound files mixing during gameplay.

Twitter user HomBKE was among the first to publicize video of Back 4 Blood‘s undead “Ridden” groaning what sounds a lot like the n-word shortly after the game’s closed beta launch on Friday (“What did you call me?” he responds incredulously in the clip). User Dotodoya responded with a similar clip. Kotaku’s Zack Zweizen also reported hearing the audio over the weekend, a situation he described as “100% likely unintentional but also 100% unfortunate.”

Since then, WB Games has confirmed that supposition in a statement provided to media outlets:

'The Green Knight' will be available to stream August 18th for one night only

The Green Knight, one of the best movies of the year, is currently only available to watch in theaters. However, there’s some good news if you can’t make it out to your local cinema. Distributor A24 plans to stream the film for one night only on August 18th, and you can purchase the $20 ticket to see The Green Knight starting today through the company’s Screening Room website.

Once you buy a ticket, you’ll have three ways to stream the movie. You can watch it on a web browser, via A24’s Apple TV app or through the Roku app. Starting at 9PM, you’ll have four hours to finish the film. We will also note that A24 only plans to stream The Green Knight on the 18th in the US.

The topic of simultaneous theatrical and online releases has been a complicated subject in Hollywood recently, with Disney’s Black Window generating $60 million in streaming revenue for the company while at the same time leading to a legal spat with star Scarlett Johansson. With no foreseeable conclusion to the pandemic, we’re likely to see more companies like A24 try out different distribution strategies.

Twitter Suspends Marjorie Taylor Greene's Account for One Week

Twitter has suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s account for one week following another violation of the platform’s rules, the company said Tuesday. From a report: Greene tweeted on Monday that the Food and Drug Administration “should not approve the covid vaccines.” She also claimed the vaccines were “failing” and that they were ineffective at reducing the virus’s spread. In response, Twitter labeled the tweet as misleading and prevented Greene from tweeting for one week. The tweet, a company spokesperson said, “was labeled in line with our COVID-19 misleading information policy. The account will be in read-only mode for a week due to repeated violations of the Twitter Rules.”

OpenAI's Codex Turns Written Language Into Computer Code

A new AI system can read written instructions in conversational language and transform it into working computer code. From a report: The model is the latest example of progress in natural language processing (NLP), the ability of AIs to read and write text. But it also points towards a future where coders will be able to offload some of their work to AIs, and where ordinary people may be able to code without actually learning how to code.

Today OpenAI is releasing an improved version of its Codex AI model and releasing it for developers for private developers through its API. Codex is a descendant of OpenAI’s massive text-generating model GPT-3, which was released last summer. But while GPT-3 was trained on a huge quantity of language data taken from the internet — enabling it to read and then complete text prompts submitted by a human user — Codex was trained on both language and billions of lines of publicly available computer code.
