Dog Wanders Into Orchestra Performing, Gets Cozy Next To Violinist

dog-enjoys-orchestra.jpg

This is a video from the 31st International Izmir Festival in Çesme, Turkey, of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra performing when a dog makes its way on stage and proceeds to make itself comfortable next to the leg of a violinist. That seems like a pretty chill dog. My dog? My dog is the opposite of chill and is running around in the hallway between cubicles pooping all over the floor. I bring her to work as an emotional support dog because every time I hear somebody scream that they just stepped in poop it makes me smile and feel warm inside.

Keep going for the video.

PC Perspective Radeon Vega Frontier Edition Review

As we watched Radical Ryan Shrout yesterday, I think many folks hopes of Vega were a bit dashed. My personal thoughts were that it would be on par with GTX 1080 and hopefully a little bit better, but it seems to have possibly missed that accomplishment. Ryan said yesterday during his stream, “So far, compared to the GTX 1080, it is slightly slower to even.” Now this is not the full blown “gaming” card, but his is not a full blown professional level card either. AMD’s odd marketing seems to put it somewhere in the middle. That said, I think this card will be fairly representative of what the consumer gaming RX Vega will bring. Heat and clocks still seem to be an issue with AMD’s architecture. Ryan has his full review posted.

For the gamers out there, reading this and hoping to be uplifted and excited about the RX Vega product, it’s a tough sell, no getting around that. There is still potential for the hardware, despite the much higher power consumption that it requires over competitive GeForce options, if the Radeon Technologies Group is willing to price it to make an impact.

Like we saw with how AMD’s Polaris was marketed, a lot of its success is going to very much depend on the RX Vega is priced.

Parting Out New RX470 Built Systems for Fun and Profit

I have been watching this thread in the HotDeals forum for a couple of weeks now. Some enterprising capitalists have found a way around the mining craze that is running up GPU prices in the last month or so, in order to get their hands on cards or cash, or both. While individual video card prices are in the stratosphere, fully built systems have not be heavily impacted by this due to purchasing agreements set up months in advance by system builders. Buy that fully built system, part it out on Ebay, reap the rewards of free hardware or cash.

Customize to your heart’s content, but add the free upgrade to RX470, and then buy a second one for an additional $119. That’s key to getting about $600 to $650 back of the purchase price by selling both RX470 on Ebay for $325 each (inflated prices due to the miner craze).

Sony Will Start Pressing Vinyl Records After 28-Year Hiatus

Sony said this week it will begin pressing vinyl records again, ending an almost three-decade hiatus. A dramatic increase in demand for vinyl music in recent years prompted the move, the company said. From a report: After a 28-year hiatus, Sony announced this week that it plans to open a new facility in Japan dedicated to pressing vinyl records. It’s a back-to-the-future announcement at a time when the true digital music revolution — downloaded and streaming via always-on Internet connectivity — has quickly grown to dominate listening habits. According to Japan’s recording industry association, the country produced nearly 200 million records per year in the mid-1970s. That’s unlikely to return. But while many of us have been content to wirelessly download our music, a surprising number of people are going to the store — or Amazon.com, let’s be honest — and purchasing a vinyl record, sleeve and all.

The World's Largest LEGO Ball Moving Machine, With Over 200 Individual Modules

largest-lego-ball-moving-machine.jpg

This is an almost hour-long tour of the world’s largest LEGO Great Ball Contraption, recently on display at the 2017 Brickworld Chicago. The machine consists of over 200 individual modules each moving balls in their own unique way. My ball moving machine? I just use my hand when nobody is looking. If somebody is looking though then I just kick one leg out to the side kung-fu style hoping the ball releases its grasp from my thigh. It doesn’t always work, but when it does you feel like a hero.

Keep going for the video, it’s at least worth skipping around for a few minutes.

EPA intends to form “red team” to debate climate science

US Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt and Energy Secretary Rick Perry have been making some headlines for publicly rejecting the conclusions of climate science. But in between wrongly claiming that climate scientists just don’t know how much of a contribution humans make to recent global warming (answer: roughly 100 percent), they have also been parroting a new line—that climate science needs a “red team” to take on the scientific consensus.

On Friday, E&E News reported that these aren’t empty words. The EPA intends to “organize a specific process in which these individuals… provide back-and-forth critique of specific new reports on climate science,” according to an administration official.

The “red team” concept refers to exercises in which one team is formed with the goal of shooting down the blue team’s conclusions or pursuing off-the-wall ideas. Since people like Scott Pruitt assert that the cause of climate change is fundamentally unknown, they argue that it would be perfectly reasonable to gather up some scientists who think humans are the cause together with some who disagree and let them duke it out.

The Dutch Hate Kodi Boxes Too

It looks like the Dutch are lining up behind the Mexico, UK, Amazon, and Ebay when it comes to selling set-top boxes loaded with Kodi and third-party addons that allow for the streaming of copyrighted content. At least in this situation we see it trying to be reeled in by cutting off the source rather than trying to put the end-user in jail or in the middle of a bunch of lawyers.

Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN is reporting that 200 entities selling ‘pirate’ media players have ceased trading recently. The development appears to be a direct result of an April 2017 ruling by the European Court of Justice, which found that selling piracy-configured devices is a breach of copyright law.

Sprint Killed Off RadioShack?

I am sure that many of you will argue that RadioShack had a very large hand in its own doom, some of its creditors that got screwed in the bankruptcy are now pointing a finger directly at Sprint as playing a big part in the slow multi-year death. By the way, can I get your name and address while you reading that article?

The lawsuit alleges that in 2016, Sprint used confidential information obtained from RadioShack to open 200 competing stores near RadioShack’s best locations, sinking any comeback for the electronics chain. “Sprint’s action destroyed nearly 6,000 RadioShack jobs,” said the lawsuit.
