Congratulations?: The World's Longest Whip Crack

worlds-longest-whip-crack.jpg

This is the shortest video of the world’s longest whip crack. The whip, which is 238-feet and 3-inches long, takes almost six seconds from the initial whip until the end cracks. It’s one of those world records that doesn’t really require any sort of particular skill or anything, just the world’s longest whip and two arms. If I had a 240-foot whip I could break the record today. Then tomorrow try to trade the whip to Indiana Jones for his hat. “And what am I supposed to do with a whip this long?” I don’t know, maybe you could– OMG look out there’s a snake behind you! *Indy screams* Haha, man, you seemed way cooler in the movies.

Keep going for the video of the world’s longest whip crack. The world’s longest butt crack? This guy at the gym, I swear it’s at least three and a half feet long.

AMD Extends Polaris GPU Line-up With Mainstream Radeon RX 470 and Radeon RX 460

Some more graphics cards news via our long time reader MojoKid: AMD is officially announcing its newest mainstream members of the Polaris graphics family today, known as the Radeon RX 470 and Radeon RX 460. AMD is touting the RX 470 as a perfect companion for 1080p resolution gaming, offering 60+ FPS performance (with anti-aliasing enabled) in popular game titles. The RX 460, on the other hand, is based on Polaris 11 architecture, which has a more budget-minded performance profile. If all you’re looking for is an efficient, yet capable eSports gaming card, then AMD claims the RX 460 still has you covered. Peak compute performance for the RX 470 drops in at 4.9 TFLOPs (compared to 5.8 TFLOPs for the Radeon RX 480). The RX 460 has less than half the stream processors and less than half the compute units of the RX 470 and as a result, the peak compute performance stands at 2.2 TFLOPs. Pricing for the Radeon RX 470 and Radeon RX 460 is set at $149 and $99 MSRP, respectively.

AT&T boosts U-verse data cap to 1TB, keeps DSL users at 150GB

Data cap cash. (credit: Aurich Lawson | Getty Images)

AT&T is raising the data caps for U-verse Internet customers to 1TB a month and providing unlimited data “at no additional charge” to customers who subscribe to the company’s 1Gbps service.

But DSL users on AT&T’s network aren’t getting any extra data, and those users must continue to make do with a 150GB monthly limit.

AT&T has been enforcing data caps on DSL users for years but only began enforcement of caps on its faster U-verse service in May this year. Data caps were set at 300GB, 600GB, or 1TB based on the speed tier. But the changes announced today—which take effect August 21—give all U-verse customers a monthly data cap of 1TB or no cap at all. Previously, a 1TB cap was only for customers with speeds from 100Mbps to 1Gbps.

Ask Slashdot: Best Browser Extensions — 2016 Edition?

Reader LichtSpektren writes: Almost eleven years ago, Slashdot featured an Ask titled “Favorite Firefox Extensions?”. I thought it might be worthwhile to ask the question again (Editor’s note: we couldn’t agree more!), but expand the query to all web browsers now that there’s more choices available. Right now my main browser is Firefox, which I use with uBlock Origin, Disconnect, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger, NoScript, Self-Destructing Cookies, Decentraleyes, Privacy Settings, and Clean Links. (N.B. the first four of these are also available in Chromium-based browsers.) I use Chrome as a secondary browser, with the first four of the aforementioned extensions, plus also Clear Cache and occasionally Flashcontrol. This one has nothing to do with security or privacy, but Reedy on Chromium is a really nice tool for speed reading. What do you use?Let’s get this going.

Guy Replaces Family Photos With Steve Buscemi, Family Doesn't Notice

buscemi-photos-1.jpg

Presumably bored out of his mind, Wisconsinite (that’s somebody from Wisconsin) Kevin Manion decided to replace family photos around his mom and dad’s house with photos of Steve Buscemi and see how long it would take his parents to notice. Apparently it took his dad two days, and his mom five, leading at least one blogger to speculate just what the hell this family looks like.

[Kevin’s sister Clare] said “My dad noticed [on] the second day but my mom didn’t notice until the fifth day.”

Manion added: “She was in the kitchen and could tell something was wrong with my brother’s senior photo, like the colors were wrong, and his head was too big, so she walked over to it and started laughing so hard.”

That’s the thing — you get so used to seeing things that you don’t really notice them anymore. You just assume what’s there is what’s always been there. That said, my parents played a similar photo-switching prank on me recently but instead of switching photos they turned my bedroom into an office and wait — why doesn’t my house key work anymore?!

Keep going for a couple more examples of Kevin’s handiwork.
