United States Postal Service Releases Planets Of Our Solar System Stamp Set

planet-stamps.jpg

This is the View Of Our Planets stamp set available from the United States Postal Service. The 16 stamp set includes every planet in the solar system TWICE. Pissed there’s no Pluto? Well relax, Pluto got its own stamp set (picture after the jump) because it’s special and has diehard fans like myself who stand up for it like a big brother who won’t step aside and watch their little bro get pummeled unless I’m mad at him that day in which case let me get a kick in. Thankfully, the stamps are all stickers so there’s no need to lick Uranus to send your aunt a thank-you letter for whatever the hell she got you for your last birthday.

Keep going for the Pluto set.

Movie Review: Steven Spielberg's The BFG Is a Magical Movie… Mostly

The BFG is Steven Spielberg’s first Disney movie and it’s based on a famous book by Roald Dahl, one of the world’s most notable authors. Those things all add up to some pretty daunting expectations. The film, which opens Friday, meets those expectations, but doesn’t surpass them, leaving a suitably entertaining and magical film aimed squarely at the younger people in your life.

No decision after hearing for UK man accused of hacking FBI, NASA

(credit: blackplans)

After two days of evidence, Lauri Love still does not know whether he will be extradited to the United States.

In hearings at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, the Judge heard from 15 witnesses for the defence, but none from the prosecution. Lauri Love, 31, of Stradishall, has been accused by the US authorities of hacking into the US Federal Reserve, NASA, the FBI, and the Missile Defence Agency.

He was first arrested by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) in October 2013 and was released on bail in July 2014. US prosecutors claim that Love’s alleged offences were not politically motivated and were instead designed to “to disrupt the operations and infrastructure of the US government” by stealing classified data and personally identifying information of government and military personnel.

Hacker Takes Over Oculus CEO's Twitter Account, Announces New CEO

Another day, another high-profile becoming victim of a hack attack. Somebody managed to find a way into Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe’s Twitter account late Wednesday. The hacker, who appears to be a user who goes by the alias “lid” on Twitter changed Iribe’s bio and cover photo, and made a couple of interesting “announcements” — including him becoming the new CEO of Facebook-owned virtual reality company. TechCrunch reports:This is just the latest in a string of tech CEO’s having their Twitter accounts compromised, this attack does not appear to be from the same hacker group responsible for the hacks on the accounts of Travis Kalanick, Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg and Dick Costolo. Late Wednesday night, Iribe’s Twitter bio temporarily read, “hey its @Lid … im not testing ya security im just havin a laugh.” The hacker told me in a Twitter DM that he accessed the password via last month’s MySpace breach, he also said that he also would’ve managed to access Iribe’s email account had he not had two-factor authentication enabled.

Even more dangerous on two wheels: Pikes Peak and the motorbikes

.related-stories { display: none !important; }

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb was an all-car affair for most of its 100 years. But the past few decades have seen motorcycles return to the mountain, getting faster (and more dangerous) since the entire road was paved in 2011. As with their four-wheel-riding cousins, bike racers have started looking at electric motors, which, unlike internal combustion engines, aren’t fazed by altitude.

This year, 36 bikes, quads, and sidecars were entered in Sunday’s race. They would get first crack at the course; running the cars first creates the risk of them dragging dirt or rocks onto the road, and the 12.4-mile (19.99km) route is already unforgiving enough.

“Unfortunately, now that it’s all pavement and the speeds are higher, the risk factor is much greater [and] the future of bikes could be in peril. They’ve had a death the past two years, unfortunately,” explained Don Canet. Canet is Road Test Editor for Cycle World and has competed at Pikes Peak in recent years. To try and manage the risk, this year all the motorbikes have to have single-piece handlebars, and the very fastest liter-class Superbikes are no longer allowed. “Not to say that the bikes we’re running now are nearly as fast, but at least it’s a move—probably to appease the insurance carrier,” Canet said.
