Eastshade Has So Much Personality That You Forget You're Just Painting and Talking

Sometimes, when I’m feeling stressed, my mind instinctively hearkens back to peaceful, idyllic days and just lingers there for a little while: a perfect Sunday brunch. An hours-long walk along the beach. A concert so good that, for just a moment, the outside world vanished. Eastshade is a game that feels like those…

Dealmaster: Get a new Nintendo Switch console for $270

Dealmaster: Get a new Nintendo Switch console for $270

Enlarge (credit: TechBargains)

Greetings, Arsians! Courtesy of our friends at TechBargains, we have another round of deals to share. Today’s list is headlined by another deal on the Nintendo Switch, as the popular portable game console is currently available for $270 at Newegg. That’s a $30 discount. Models with gray and blue/red controllers are both on sale.

A couple things worth noting here: you’ll have to apply the code “EMCTVVA34” at checkout to receive the discount, but in order to do that, you’ll have to give Newegg an email address first. The discount is only available through Tuesday. The deal comes from Newegg itself, not a third-party vendor. But this is the part when we mention that Newegg’s checkout process was subject to a data breach last year that put customers’ payment data at risk of theft for a full month. The retailer has since resolved that issue, but the more you know, etc.

It’s also worth noting that Nintendo is running a separate Switch deal that bundles a $35 eShop gift card with the console at its standard $299 price. If you plan on downloading a game or two from the Switch’s digital shop anyway rather than sticking to physical cartridges, that may be a better value than the straight discount here.

Microsoft Blurs Line Between Xbox One And PC Gaming With New Windows 10 Updates
Being a PC gamer can be a challenge in today’s console-centric world. Cool games launch first on consoles, and the PC gamer has to sit and wait until a launch date is announced, sometimes months or even years after the game landed on the console. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a perfect example; that game is still not available for PC gamers, but

Dry.io Wants To Democratize Software Development Using AI

An anonymous reader writes: We’ve seen companies big and small build everything from AI-driven developer tools to AI-powered developer environments. But what if instead of having AI merely help developers write code, it did all the heavy lifting? Dry.io, a developer playground that helps you write web apps using just a few lines of code, began accepting signups today for its first wave of external testing. The programmable software platform lets you set the parameters of what you want to build, “and the AI takes care of the rest.”

Google Duo Is Now Accessible from the Web

According to reports, Google Duo is now accessible on the web. By heading to the Google Duo website, users should be able to place video and phone calls within their web browser.

There’s no tedious setup to get started with Duo on the web–no phone number authentication or QR code scans like with other Google products. You just need to be logged into your Google account. You can, of course, choose to answer Duo calls on your phone instead of the web (you’ll get a browser notification if you’re logged in).

Google’s DeepMind can predict wind patterns a day in advance

Wind power has become increasingly popular, but its success is limited by the fact that wind comes and goes as it pleases, making it hard for power grids to count on the renewable energy and less likely to fully embrace it. While we can’t control the…

New FTC Task Force Will Take on Tech Monopolies

The Federal Trade Commission will be launching a task force to monitor competition in the US’s technology markets, commissioners announced today. From a report: The task force will include current officials working in the agency’s Bureau of Competition in order to “enhance the Bureau’s focus on technology-related sectors of the economy, including markets in which online platforms compete.” It will also include 17 staff attorneys who will be tasked with investigating anti-competitive behavior in the tech industry. “The role of technology in the economy and in our lives grows more important every day,” FTC Chairman Joe Simons said. “As I’ve noted in the past, it makes sense for us to closely examine technology markets to ensure consumers benefit from free and fair competition.”

Ninjas Are Everywhere: Man Performs Backflip To Handstand

This is a very short video of Russian “professional calisthenics athlete” Alexander Didenko performing a very impressive backflip to handstand (or, as I’m calling it, a half back handspring). I can already hear my wrists breaking. Now I’m not saying I could do that, because I know that I could’t because my penis is so gigantic it completely throws off my center of gravity. “I don’t think that’s the reason.” *shaking head sadly at penis* You’ve ruined me.

Keep going for the video, although the gif is really the whole thing, just with a crappier framerate.

A Custom Cobra Commander Themed Heckler & Koch XM8 Assault Rifle

cobra-commander-rifle-1.jpg

This is the functional Heckler & Koch XM8 assault rifle (actually an SL8 with a custom XM8 conversion kit) modded by Hollywood props engineer Tom Bostic of TommyBuilt Tactical with a Cobra Commander theme from the G.I. Joe franchise. Man, I miss those old red lasers vs blue lasers days. Some more info:

This is an H&K SL8 I converted to an XM8 with my furniture kit, that’s an actual Insight Technologies 4x XM8 prototype optic basically unobtainable, lol Beta C 100 G36 drum and a custom barrel shroud. We did it up in the Old 80’s cartoon Cobra Commander theme from the GI Joe toys and cartoons.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? “Pork chop sandwiches?” Forever and always. That’s one of my top two go-to’s when I’m feeling down. “And the other?” The bar. If I’m really down I watch the video AT the bar.

Keep going for several more shots.
