Amazing Animated Monster Fight Cartoon Filmed In A Single Shot

This is an awesome monster fight animation created with pencil drawings on pieces of cut out poster board that was all filmed as one continuous shot with an iPhone. Plus the artist shows you how it was filmed after the animation itself, which might have been even more interesting than the actual cartoon. Did any of that even make sense? I don’t know, just watch it — I’m bad at describing things. “Your dating profile reads ‘Fun loving dud with a beer belly.'” Okay now that I nailed.

Keep going for the video while I speculate why none of the ladies on CheapDates don’t ever want to message such a fun loving dud.

Canon Has Sold Its Last Film Camera

As spotted by PetaPixel, Canon this week announced with no fanfare that it’s sold its last film camera. TechCrunch reports: The model in question is the EOS-1V, which, incidentally, the company actually stopped making a full eight years ago. Since it has simply been selling out the rest of its stock, which, it seems, has finally depleted. It’s less of a bang than a prolonged whimper, but it’s the end of an era, nonetheless, marking the first time Canon hasn’t offered a film camera since the 30s, when its parent company started offering a device called the “Kwanon.” Those who are feeling suddenly nostalgic, you can likely pick one up used fairly easily (though this news might bump up their premium a bit), and I’m sure the inevitable Kickstarter project to revive the technology can’t be too far off, because that’s how these things go now. Canon will continue to offer repair on the EOS-1V until October 31, 2025, “though that could end as early as 2020 for some, if parts and inventory run out sooner,” adds TechCrunch.

Google Listed 'Nazism' as the Ideology of the California Republican Party

Less than a week ago, if you searched for the California Republican Party on Google, you might have read that the political party’s ideologies included conservatism, market liberalism, and nazism. The latter listing has since been removed, and Google is blaming the results on Wikipedia “vandalism.” From a report: Vice first reported the inclusion of “Nazism” under ideologies in Google’s knowledge panel — the box that shows up to the right of search results. It’s unclear how long the term had been there, but the tech giant removed it after being notified by the publication. “We regret that vandalism on Wikipedia briefly appeared on our search results,” Google tweeted on Thursday in response to California congressman and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy. “This was not the the result of a manual change by Google. We have systems in place that catch vandalism before it impacts search results, but occasionally errors get through, and that happened here.”

What The Hell Was That?: Psychedelic Levi Commercials From The Early 1970's

vintage-psychedelic-levi-ads.jpg

These are two vintage Levi commercials from the early 1970’s narrated by voice-over and recording artist Ken Nordine, best known from his Word Jazz albums of the 1950’s and 60’s. The first is a trippy evolution of man themed ad, and the second is based on Nordine’s recording of the poem ‘Flibberty Jib’ from the original Word Jazz album. As weird as they are, that was definitely some solid advertising, and I just bought six pairs of Levis off Amazon, all in sizes that I know won’t fit me but I won’t return. Modern advertisers should really take a page from the 1970’s advertising playbook and– “What? Sit around and do psychedelics all day?” Not a bad job if you can get it. Wait — can you get it? I’m willing to try new things, here’s my resume. “This is a picture of a cat licking a window.” I want a corner office.

Skyscraper Window Replacement Goes Horribly, Horribly Wrong

Construction workers in Poland using a rooftop crane to lift a giant pane of glass to the top of a 30-plus-story skyscraper will unfortunately have to try it once again. The glass was almost in their reach when the cable apparently snapped, sending the window and its support rig plummeting to the ground.

The Millennium Falcons that Never Were

Certainly most every person that reads this meager news feed can easily picture the Millennium Falcon in their mind’s eye right now, but what about all the versions that we never will get to see on the big screen? StarWars.com has a story about looking back in time with the Falcon, which of course is there to prop up the floundering Han Solo film, but it is still really cool to see.

Clyne, Lucasfilm’s design supervisor for Solo: A Star Wars Story, and his team ultimately created about 60 iterations of the fastest ship in the galaxy before landing on the design that’s featured in the new film, out now. The process took Clyne back to his childhood and essentially transported the entire crew back to the 1970s to explore muscle car culture, model building, and the original concept art that inspired the creators of Star Wars in 1977.
