This is ‘100 Movies 100 Numbers 100 Seconds’, a video counting down from 100 using only numbers voiced in movies (with no duplicates), in 100 seconds. You can see a list of all the movies used at the video’s Youtube page HERE. How many have you seen? I’ve seen them all. I’m kidding, I’ve seen 64. Fine, 27. Kidding again, I’ve only seen six. I’m lying, what’s a movie?

Hit the jump for the video of the numeric alphabet being recited.

Self-Driving Cars Will Boost the Job Market, Says Marc Andreessen

A future with self-driving cars has induced a lot of anxiety about a resulting loss of jobs, but in fact, they’ll create tons more jobs, Silicon Valley investor Marc Andreessen (Wikipedia) said at Recode’s annual conference on Tuesday evening. “The jobs crisis we have in the U.S. is that we don’t have enough workers,” he said. From a report: “It’s a fallacy,” Andreessen said (specifically citing the lump of labor fallacy and the luddite fallacy). “It’s a recurring panic. This happens every 25 or 50 years, people get all amped up about ‘machines are going to take all the jobs’ and it never happens.” Andreessen used the example of the rise of the automobile industry a century ago, which many thought would cost the livelihood of everyone whose jobs were to take care of horses. But “the car then created not only a lot of jobs creating cars” but everything else that happened because of the car: Paved streets, restaurants, motels, movie theaters, apartment complexes, office complexes, the entire buildout of suburban America, etc. “The jobs that were created by the automobile on the second, third, and fourth order effects were 100X, 1000X the number of jobs that blacksmiths had,” he said.

A Plasma Cutter Makes Solid Steel Melt Like Butter

To the naked eye, someone slicing through steel using a high-temperature plasma torch just looks like a massive shower of sparks. But through the lens of a high-speed camera filming at 480 frames per second, the steel looks about as strong as melting butter as the torch easily slices through it.

n00bs Learn how to Rocket Jump

While the rest of us old farts have been rocket jumping since the mid-90s, I guess you n00bs need a little bit of instruction. Let me give you some insight, aim down…fire rocket….get good at it. Try that with your crappy console, peasant.

Covering the main types of rocket jumps that I use in the Quake Champions BETA. I learned most of these in Quake 3 and Quake Live… the skills still apply and the rocket feels pretty good in the current version (they’re working on improving it further though).

Hackers jailbreak permanent mods onto Super Mario World save files

The practice of hacking standard Super Mario World cartridges on stock Super Nintendo hardware has come a long way in a short time. Three years ago, it required a robot entering thousands of button presses per second to insert arbitrary code on top of the game. By last year, streamer SethBling was proving that this kind of code insertion was possible for a human acting with pixel-perfect precision.

Now, SethBling and others in the SMW hacking community have taken things a step further, permanently writing a full hex editor and gameplay mods onto a stock Super Mario World cartridge using nothing but standard controller inputs.

SethBling’s ten-minute video explaining the entire “jailbreaking” process is a must-watch for anyone interested in the particulars of perpetually altering a 25-year-old game without any special hardware. In short, the jailbreak builds on an exploit discovered by Cooper Harrsyn that lets players write data directly to the small, 256-byte save files that are permanently stored on the Super Mario World cartridge.

EVGA Unveils its GeForce GTX 1080 Ti K|NGP|N Edition

EVGA has once again collaborated with extreme overclocker Vince “K|NGP|N” Lucido to develop the new EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti K|NGP|N Edition. As EVGA’s ultra-high-end overclocking card, EVGA is guaranteeing each card can be to be overclocked to at least 2025MHz, which means we’re looking at a binned card with a whole heap of modifications and tweaks to allow for squeezing the last few MHz out of the card.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti K|NGP|N Edition
Boost Clock 2025MHz
Memory Clock 11Gbps
VRAM 11GB
TDP Well Over 250W If You’re Doing It Right
Power Connectors 2x 8pin
Length ?
Width 2 Slot
Cooler Type Open Air
Price TBD

EVGA uses a fully custom PCB designed to withstand the rigors of overclocking. The card features a 15 phase digital VRM system with dual 8-pin power connectors on the right edge for better cable management. You will also find the EVGA Evbot connector next to the power connectors on the rear of the card, an interesting situation as this is a feature that doesn’t show up on too many EVGA products these days. The PCB features nine temperature sensors: three for memory, five for PWM, and one for the GPU. When it comes to display connectivity, there are three Mini DisplayPort 1.4 connectors, one DVI, and a single HDMI 2.0 port all in a row, making it possible to create a single-slot graphics card when used with a water block.

The heatsink shroud has a very similar look to EVGA’s FTW3 edition video card. Integrated into the black plastic shroud you’ll find three large dual-ball bearing fans pushing air through interlaced copper-plated fins bonded to six copper heatpipes (three 6mm and three 8mm) that are attached to the copper-plated baseplate. A large metal backplate spans the entire length of the graphics card, adding rigidity and structural strength to prevent it from bending under the weight of the heatsink. The card also has accommodations for LN2 overclocking.

EVGA’s Jacob Freeman tweeted a picture from Computex showing the GTX 1080 Ti K|NGP|N Edition running cool as a cucumber at 2404MHz. The company said the card will be available in July. No price has been announced yet.

How Do We Know Black Holes Are Really Holes?

Some Earthlings have the silly tendency to think that if they don’t understand something, it must be fake. That includes our influence on the changing climate, the fact that the Earth is round, and the existence of black holes, massive blobs so dense that not even light can escape their tug.
