Dammit Mother Nature, Enough: Video Of A Snake Regurgitating Another Live Snake

snake-puking-snake.jpg

This is a video of a snake who, after feeling threatened by the humans filming it, regurgitates the snake it just ate so it can escape. And the snake it just ate is still alive. Indiana Jones would lose his shit if he saw this! Obviously, I’m going to email him the video and tell him its actually footage from an archeological dig. He hates it when I do that, but I can’t help myself, I’m addicted to trickery. Also eating dental floss.

Hit the jump for Mother Nature gone wild.

New York Drivers Say Uber Still Owes Them Millions More

Uber drivers landed a major payday in New York last week when the ride-hailing service agreed to reimburse drivers after miscalculating its commission on rides for years. But a group of drivers claim they are owed even more money than what Uber conceded, and it could end up costing the company millions more.

GIGABYTE and AORUS at Computex

GIGABYTE has some very cool systems and products worth checking out in its section at Computex this year. I pulled some of my favorite shots that show off great system mods, new products, great cabling and system configuration, and one of the new AORUS mascot statue. I like things with cool metal wings…now where did I see that before?

Apple Is Manufacturing a Siri Speaker To Compete Against Google Home, Amazon Echo

According to Bloomberg, Apple is manufacturing a Siri-controlled smart speaker that could debut as soon as its annual developer conference in June. “The device will differ from Amazon’s Echo and Alphabet’s Google Home speakers by offering virtual surround sound technology and deep integration with Apple’s product lineup,” reports Bloomberg. From the report: Introducing a speaker would serve two main purposes: providing a hub to automate appliances and lights via Apple’s HomeKit system, and establishing a bulwark inside the home to lock customers more tightly into Apple’s network of services. That would help combat the competitive threat from Google’s and Amazon’s connected speakers: the Home and Echo mostly don’t support services from Apple. Without compatible hardware, users may be more likely to opt for the Echo or Home, and therefore use streaming music offerings such as Spotify, Amazon Prime Music or Google Play rather than Apple Music. Apple hopes that more advanced acoustics technology will give the speaker an edge over competitors, according to people with knowledge of the product’s development. Along with generating virtual surround sound, the speakers being tested are louder and reproduce sound more crisply than rival offerings, the people said. Apple has also considered including sensors that measure a room’s acoustics and automatically adjust audio levels during use, one of the people said. Apple will also likely let third-party services build products for the speaker. The device will be a hub for Apple’s HomeKit home automation system, letting users control devices such as lights, door locks and window blinds.

Japanese Shoemaker Made Herself A Pair Of Pigeon Heels

pigeon-shoes-1.jpg

These are several shots of the pigeon heels that Japanese shoemaker Kyoto Ohata crafted for herself so she wouldn’t scare wild pigeons while walking through the park (seriously). Apparently they work too. Just hopefully not so well that pigeons start trying to bang your shoes. You know the last time I was on vacation in Florida a pelican tried to have sex with my leg, so that sucked. We went to Disney World the next day but I couldn’t enjoy it.

Keep going for a bunch more shots while I sketch a picture of me flying into the moon wearing rocket boots.

Parents Have No Right To Dead Child's Facebook Account, German Court Rules

An anonymous reader quotes a report from Reuters: A German court rejected a mother’s demand on Wednesday that Facebook grant her access to her deceased daughter’s account. In the ruling, which overturned a lower court’s decision, the Berlin appeals court said the right to private telecommunications extended to electronic communication that was meant only for the eyes of certain people. In the Facebook case, the mother of a 15-year-old who was hit and killed by a subway train in Berlin in 2012 had sought access to her daughter’s account to search for clues as to whether the girl had committed suicide. Facebook had refused access to the account, which had been memorialized, meaning it was effectively locked and served as a message board for friends and family to share memories. A regional court in Berlin had ruled in favor of the mother in late 2015, saying that the daughter’s contract with Facebook passed to her parents according to German laws on inheritance. It had also said that the girl’s right to privacy was not protected because she was a minor and it was up to her parents to protect her rights. The appeals court said on Wednesday that the right to private telecommunications outweighed the right to inheritance, and that the parents’ obligation to protect their daughter’s rights expired with her death.

Mylan shareholders revolt, say directors’ greed has gone too far

Enlarge / Heather Bresch, chief executive officer of Mylan NV, is questioned by lawmakers over why the company raised the price of the life-saving injection to $600 for a two-pack from $57 a shot. (credit: Getty | Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg )

A group of disgruntled Mylan investors launched a campaign late Tuesday to block the re-election of six directors over their exorbitant—and increasing—compensation. That’s according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

In a letter sent to fellow shareholders, the group lambasted hefty bonuses and salary increases that came as the company faced backlash for the skyrocketing price of its life-saving EpiPen devices. Such outrage is likely to continue given that a new government report released today suggests that Mylan overcharged taxpayers $1.27 billion dollars for EpiPens over 10 years.

The ongoing EpiPen pricing scandal has caused Mylan “significant reputational and financial harm,” the investors complained. Yet directors continued to be rewarded. The investors were particularly critical of Chairman Robert Coury, who received more than $160 million in compensation in 2016 and will receive a $1.8 million per year “cash retainer” as part of a deal made with Mylan last year. Trade publication FiercePharma reports that Coury is the highest-paid executive in the drug industry.

What Today's Kangaroo Fighters Can Learn From the Great Emu War of 1932

In recent years, Australia has been embroiled in an effort to cull kangaroos—this year alone, it’s expected to kill over a million of them in an effort to protect endangered species in its grasslands.
