It sure is funny how Kim Dotcom acts like he’s a rock star. If people sitting around waiting for him to finally be extradited to the U.S. so the actual trial can begin is considered “global interest” then I guess our standards have dropped a few notches.
Kim Dotcom is hoping to have his fight with the U.S. government pushed further into the public consciousness by having his extradition appeal streamed live on the Internet. U.S. authorities are already objecting to Dotcom’s application but they could be up against stiff opposition since New Zealand is proud of its courtroom transparency.

Google Fiber has reportedly fallen “well short” of its goal of signing up 5 million subscribers and may be on the verge of making significant staff cuts.
“Last month, Alphabet CEO Larry Page ordered Google Fiber’s chief, Craig Barratt, to halve the size of the Google Fiber team to 500 people,” according to a paywalled report from The Information that quotes people “close to Alphabet.”
The report does not say whether any staff cuts have already occurred.

Rescue teams searching for earthquake survivors in central Italy have asked locals to unlock their Wifi passwords. The Italian Red Cross says residents’ home networks can assist with communications during the search for survivors, reports BBC. From the report: On Wednesday a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck central Italy and killed more than 240 people. More than 4,300 rescuers are looking for survivors believed to still be trapped in the rubble. On Twitter, the Italian Red Cross posted a step-by-step guide which explains how local residents can switch off their Wifi network encryption. Similar requests have been made by the National Geological Association and Lazio Region. A security expert has warned that removing encryption from a home Wifi network carries its own risks, but added that those concerns are trivial in the context of the rescue operation.

This is a video of a rarely scenemoray eel larva swimming around and doing its thing prior to finding a quiet, private spot in the shallows to finish metamorphosing into a young, non-transparent juvenile eel. I had no idea moray eel larva were so clear. I also had no idea there are over 200 species of moray eels spread across 15 different genera, I thought there was just the one species. It just goes to show, you learn something new every day. Granted what we learned today wasn’t important, but it was interesting. And that’s my favorite kind of thing to learn, because if you forget it, it’s no big deal. It’s not like where you left your car keys or the kids you were babysitting.
