We also get a better look at Annie Wilkes, the rare character who’s able to blend old-fashioned folksiness (“You don’t know a cockadoodie thing about us!”) with intense menace. And then there’s Tim Robbins’ character, coming in with the ol’ “Somethin’ bad is coming!” Well, of course, it is. It’s Castle Rock!

Borrowing a trick from the Air Force, whose planes can complete long-range missions thanks to in-flight refueling from tanker aircraft, researchers at UC Berkeley showed off a novel way to keep small drones in the air almost indefinitely: flying replacement batteries that can be swapped without landing.

The US Treasury Department announced today the third set of sanctions against the Internet Research Agency (IRA), also known as Russia’s troll farm. From a report: The Treasury previously sanctioned the IRA in March and December 2018. This time, the sanctions are being imposed because of the Russian company’s involvement in the 2018 US midterm elections, when it used social media campaigns in an attempt to influence the election’s outcome. But this time, Treasury officials are taking a new route. Besides imposing new sanctions on the IRA and the private property of six of its employees, Treasury officials today also went after the private possessions of Yevgeniy Prigozhin, the IRA’s founder and primary financier. More specifically, US officials imposed sanctions on three companies that Prigozhin uses to manage three planes and a yacht. The first is Beratex Group Limited, a company registered in the Seychelles, which the Russian oligarch uses to manage a private jet with the tail number of M-VITO, and a private yacht under the name of St. Vitamin.

Cinemood is a $300 ultra-portable, lithium-ion-powered projector in a lightweight (8oz) form factor roughly the size of a Rubik’s Cube. It’s an Android device with no video input that projects from factory pre-loaded videos or onboard streaming apps like Netflix or YouTube at 640×360—and it’s not a short-throw projector, either. In our testing, Cinemood needed a 12-foot throw distance to display a rather washed-out image about the size of a 65-inch TV set.
In order to avoid burying the lede, you might as well know up front, we do not recommend this device at this price—but we do have some good alternatives for you at the end of the review if you’re in the market for a relatively cheap and portable projector.
This is not a large device. My 14-inch laptop, pictured, absolutely dwarfs the Cinemood box, let alone Cinemood itself. [credit:

Before we get into the real review, let’s talk a little inside baseball. A couple of months ago, a vendor I’d never heard of pitched me on reviewing Vava—a high-end, 4K resolution, ultra-short-throw home theater projector with a $2,500 price tag. This projector claimed to provide a 150-inch display from only a few inches’ distance, a Harmon-Kardon sound system, and more. I said sure, sounds fun.

This is a photo of a leopard almost perfectly camouflaged to blend in with its surroundings (previously: a snow leopard in hiding). Can you spot it? It took me a while, but I found it. Unfortunately not before writing a very strongly worded email claiming I don’t appreciate being tricked. It’s there though. SPOILER: almost directly in the center of the photo, to the left of the tree, laying above the rock pile just north of the diagonal branch. That sneaky devil! If I was whatever leopards eat I almost certainly would have walked right into its mouth. Even if I wasn’t something leopards eat I probably would have walked into its mouth. *shrug* Who knows, maybe I’m spinach. “You’re not spinach.” Oh shit, Popeye — hide me!
Thanks again to Jess A, who agrees sometimes the best offense is a good defense, and a good defense is some sick camo.
