AMD/Ryzen NPT Fix Discovered For Better Pass-Through Graphics Performance

One area where AMD Ryzen users have encountered Linux issues with virtualization is when trying to setup pass-through support for a graphics card to allow the virtual machine direct access to the GPU. When NPT (Nested Page Tables) are enabled, performance can become severely degraded…

EVE Player Makes Porn to Fund Spaceship Business

PC Gamer has as an article on how an EVE player is able to fund his space endeavors by making amateur porn videos of himself. With aspirations to run his own hauling company to transfer merchandise through EVE’s dangerous zones, “TimEllington” decided to take advantage of Pornhub’s amateur program that pays a user part of the ad revenue generated by their videos, which started three years ago. Looking at some of the ship designs in EVE Online, I can see where he gets his inspiration.

…Tim’s earnings on Pornhub aren’t enough to quit his day job as a graphic designer and a writer, so he decided to become a billionaire in EVE Online instead. “My last check was over $350, which I mostly spent on EVE Online,” Tim says. “That got me about 23 billion ISK and six months of subscription time for my [multiple] accounts.”

Bloodhound SSC Starts First Test, Hits 210 MPH

For the first time recently, the Bloodhounh SSC was able to hit a speed of 210 mph on its first runway test after several project delays. The goal for the group working on the Bloodhound SSC is to reach a top speed over 1,000 mph on land, current record is at 763.035 mph. The supersonic car was driven by Andy Green of the British Royal Air Force, who holds the record for World’s Fastest Land Speed record and also the first person to break the sound barrier on land.

“Stopping a slippery, five ton car, running on low-grip aircraft tires, is a challenge within the relatively limited length of the 2.7km runway here, particularly as the car continues accelerating after I lift off the throttle,” Green explained. “I discovered during the initial dynamic tests that to get the car to 200mph, I would have to take my foot off the throttle at 130mph as it then carries on accelerating for another two seconds. And then to slow down, I need to apply gentle pressure to the brakes for two seconds to ‘warm up’ the carbon fibre disk brakes before applying full force on the brakes to stop the car.”

Google Says Pixel 2 XL Screen Burn-In Is Normal, Extends Warranty To 2 Years
Google’s response to its investigation into reported screen burn in issues with the Pixel 2 XL most certainly won’t make owners happy. If you were expecting a fix for the issue, sadly one may not be coming. Google has published an update on the Pixel 2 XL to its product forums and has basically said the burn-in issue is normal.

Twitter Overstating User Numbers for 3 Years

Apparently for the past three years, Twitter has been misleading with the amount of users on its social media platform (warning auto-start video). The company overestimated its monthly active users by a count of over 1 million extra users due to counting users on third-party apps. Instead of the previously reported 328 million, it is closer to 326 million, but does not factor in the possible 15 percent bots in its user base.

It could also deepen investors’ concerns about Twitter’s growth. “We see little progress towards attracting new users, which we believe is essential in order to generate advertiser demand going forward,” said Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter in a note.

Walmart Testing Shelf-Scanning Robots

America’s favorite big-chain retailer is testing out shelf-scanning robots in over 50 of its stores. When deployed, these robots will roam the aisles helping human workers with inventory management. Similar to a Roomba and other robot vacuums, these things will also help in saving every worker’s back. Unless you’re a teenager trapped inside your local mall, try not to be too startled when you see one at your local store.

Walmart stresses that the robots are there to supplement humans, not replace them — to eliminate drudgery and the expenses that go with it. This helps workers get to the task of filling empty shelves, and that’s a job that the company doesn’t see ending any time soon given the difficulty robots still have when grabbing objects…

Critical Flaws Found in Maritime Comms System

Critical flaws have been found on Startos Global’s AmosConnect that can allow attackers to access sensitive information or even control a ship’s IT network. AmosConnect is used for a ship’s IT infrastructure and is deployed in thousands of ships with very few updating 10 to 15 years old software. Although these flaws do not affect a ship’s navigation system network, it can be troubling as NotPetya shtudown the largest ship terminal in Los Angeles.

“Essentially anyone interested in sensitive company information or looking to attack a vessel’s IT infrastructure could take advantage of these flaws. This leaves crew member and company data extremely vulnerable, and could present risks to the safety of the entire vessel,” Ballano says.

Microsoft Is Working On a Foldable Device With a Focus On Pen and Digital Ink

Microsoft is reportedly working on a foldable device with an emphasis on pen and digital-ink functionality that runs Windows 10, and it could be here as soon as next year. The company is looking to create a new category-defining mobile device that’s aimed at an entirely new demographic, and that puts pen and digital inking at the forefront of the experience. Windows Central reports: At Windows Central, we’ve been covering two ongoing internal projects within Microsoft: CShell and Windows Core OS. Both of these projects play an important part in Microsoft’s next rumored mobile device, which appears to be commonly referred to as “Andromeda” on the web. According to our sources, the Andromeda device is prototype hardware; a foldable tablet that runs Windows 10 built with Windows Core OS, along with CShell to take advantage of its foldable display. I imagine CShell plays an important roll in the foldable aspect of this device. Considering it’s foldable, being a tablet doesn’t mean much, and I’m told it’s designed to be pocketable when folded, kind of like a phone. I make the comparison to a phone because I’m also hearing that it also has telephony capabilities, meaning you could replace your actual smartphone with it and still be able to take calls and texts. My sources make it clear, however, that this is not supposed to be a smartphone replacement but rather a device similar to the canceled “Microsoft Courier.” In short, Andromeda is a digital pocket notebook.

Assassin's Creed Origins Review

Ubi cashing in again….”Wait for a sale.”

There is a lot to like but the bugs, and repetition even in the face of lack of collective puzzles really starts to drag it down in the end. Its front loaded for sure. And with a patch or two to clean up the combat a bit and this would be something I would rat [sic] a buy.

I personally have never bought an Ass Creed game to date so I might be biased.
