Opera Sync Users May Have Been Compromised In Server Breach

An anonymous reader writes: Someone broke into Opera’s servers. The Opera browser has a handy feature for synchronizing browsing data across different devices. Unfortunately, some of the passwords and login information used to enable the feature may have been stolen from Opera’s servers. Opera’s sync service is used by around 1.7 million people each month. Overall, the browser has 350 million users. The Norwegian firm told its users that someone had gained access to the Opera sync system, and “some of our sync users’ passwords and account information, such as login names, may have been compromised.” As a result, Opera had to reset all the passwords for the feature, meaning users will need to select new ones.

Internet Giants 'Consciously Failing' To Tackle Extremism On The Web

The UK parliament claims that Google, Facebook and Twitter are all “consciously failing” on terrorism. The Home Affairs Committee points out that even though Facebook claims a billion users, it only has a team of a few hundred handling terrorist reports and that Twitter “does not even proactively report extremist content to law enforcement agencies.”

The Home Affairs Committee says that social media giants like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are “consciously failing” to combat the use of their sites to promote terrorism and killings, in its report published following an inquiry that has lasted 12 months, and included visits to Glasgow, Bradford and Europol. The Committee says these networks have become “the vehicle of choice in spreading propaganda and the recruiting platforms for terrorism”.

EpiPen maker Mylan reveals generic—it’s only triple the price

Facing public and political wrath for steep price hikes on life-saving EpiPens, the devices’ manufacturer, Mylan, announced Monday that it will offer a cheap generic. But the generic isn’t that cheap.

Since Mylan bought EpiPens in 2007, the company has increased the price from around $50 for a single pen to a little more than $600 for a two pack—a more than 400 percent increase in costs. The new generic option, which the company said will be identical to EpiPens and available in a few weeks, is a two-pack with a list price of $300. That’s half of the current list price for a two pack, but still triple the 2007 cost of the devices.

EpiPens—auto-injectors that deliver a dose of epinephrine to reverse deadly allergic reactions, namely anaphylaxis shock—cost just a few dollars to make and have not changed considerably since Mylan acquired them. Since the price hikes, Mylan has raked in more than $1 billion in revenue each year. The company’s chief executive, Heather Bresch, saw her salary increase by more than 600 percent, topping $18 million last year. She’s one of the highest paid executives in the industry.
