Yakuza Cosplay Is My Kind Of Cosplay

Its not easy cosplaying as Goro Majima, the spicy meatballs on the side of the Yakuza universe. For one, you need to be able to pull off some very tight pants. And then you need to nail his essence, which is so much arrogance and menace that the average actual human being just couldnt do it.

Russia Demands Apple Remove Telegram From Russian App Store

The Russian government is asking Apple to help it block Telegram by removing it from the country’s App Store. Mac Rumors reports: A Russian court in April ordered carriers and internet providers in the country to block Telegram back in April, after Telegram refused to provide Russia with backdoor access to user messages. Despite issuing the block order back in April, Russia has only been able to disrupt Telegram’s operations in the country by 15 to 30 percent. Given the government’s inability to block the app, Roskomnadzor, the division of the government that controls media and telecommunications, has demanded that Apple remove the Telegram app from the Russian App Store. The group first asked Apple to remove the app in April, but is appealing to Apple again.

“In order to avoid possible action by Roskomnadzor for violations of the functioning of the above-mentioned Apple Inc. service, we ask you to inform us as soon as possible about your company’s further actions to resolve the problematic issue,” the regulator wrote. Roskomnadzor has given Apple one month to remove the Telegram app from the App Store. Roskomnadzor’s director Alexander Zharov said he did not want to “forecast further actions” should Apple not comply with the request following the 30 day period.

California Considering New Data Privacy Regulation

In a report from NPR yesterday, following Europe’s new privacy laws that went into effect on Friday, California is considering new legislation regarding online privacy. The California Consumer Privacy Act will likely be on the ballot in November, and will require business’ to have a “clear and conspicuous link” on their homepage titled “Do Not Sell My Personal Information.” The link would take users to a page where they can opt-out of having their personal data sold or shared. While the law would not prevent companies from collecting users’ data in order to target ads, it would prevent that data from being shared or sold.

Sounds fantastic to me, and as the article states, hopefully if this law goes into effect in California, it will just be implimented nationally instead of websites trying to use IPs to know if the user is on the site from California. I look forward to hearing how anyone can argue that the option to opt out is a bad thing. Thanks to @cageymaru for the story.

One of the initiative’s biggest backers is Alastair Mactaggart, a San Francisco real estate developer. Mactaggart recalls the moment about four years ago that turned him into a privacy advocate. He asked a Google engineer at a cocktail party whether he should be worried about his privacy. “He said, ‘Oh if you just knew how much we knew about you, you’d be really worried,’ ” recalls Mactaggart.

The Canadian man who pled guilty last year to a massive spear-phishing operation of Yahoo employees—which ultimately resulted in 500 million accounts being compromised—has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Karim Baratov, 23, was also ordered on Tuesday by a federal judge in San Francisco to pay a $250,000 fine.

“The sentence imposed reflects the seriousness of hacking for hire,” acting US Attorney Alex Tse said in a statement. He also wrote:
