Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus Rear Cameras And Fingerprint Sensor Shown In New Photo Leak
Late last week, we were greeted with an image showing the front of both the upcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The leak confirmed that the design theme for both smartphones is rather evolutionary compared to 2017’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
Now, reliable gadget leaker Evan Blass has leaked the rear of the devices — or rather, the rear portions

'No Drones or Driverless Trucks', Demands Teamsters Labor Union

An anonymous reader quotes CNBC:
No drones or driverless vehicles for delivering packages — that’s one of the major demands from the Teamsters labor union in the big contract negotiation it’s undertaking with UPS this week. The union wants to ban UPS from using such new-fangled technology, which the logistics company has been reportedly testing… The current agreement affects 260,000 full and part-time UPS employees and expires in July. “UPS is focused on a contract that provides the flexibility needed to remain highly competitive, given the challenge of an increasingly crowded logistics segment,” the company told CNBC.

The Drive notes the smaller carbon footprint of drone deliveries, while adding that “one completely understands and empathizes with the aversion truck drivers have toward this stark, autonomous future.

“If it feels like their jobs are being endangered by the incredible exponential growth in technology, it’s because they are.”

GM Sued by Motorcyclist Injured in Crash Involving Self-Driving Car

General Motors is getting sued by a motorcyclist in San Francisco who claims that a self-driving Chevrolet Bolt tricked him into thinking it was changing lanes. When he tried to pass the car, it came back into his lane and knocked him off his bike, causing injuries to his neck and shoulder.

General Motors has a different version of events leading up to the crash. The company says in a statement to ABC News that the motorcyclist merged prematurely into the Bolt’s lane. The San Francisco Police Department crash report did not assign blame for the collision, and no citations were issued at the crash scene.

Odd vertebrate gets rid of hundreds of genes early in development

Sea lampreys are parasites native to the northern and western Atlantic Ocean that suck blood and other vital fluids from their fellow fish. They have the distinction of possibly being the first destructive invasive species in North America; they entered the Great Lakes in the 1830s through the Welland Canal and have been killing trout there ever since.

They also have the distinction of having split off from the rest of the vertebrate lineage very early on, about 550 million years ago, before the evolution of jaws. This makes lampreys useful as a model organism for shedding light on the evolution of various vertebrate traits. But our studies have also revealed some strange features of the lamprey, including the fact that they get rid of hundreds of genes early in development.

Sea lampreys have several traits that other (jawed) vertebrates do not, suggesting that these traits either (a) were present in our last shared ancestor and lost by us or (b) arose since lampreys diverged from the jawed vertebrate lineage. One of these traits is a real oddity: programmed genome rearrangement. During this process, sea lampreys jettison about 20 percent of their genome during embryonic development. A few cells don’t undergo this process, and these go on to pass on the otherwise missing DNA to another generation.
