Mask that looks like you're wearing your mask wrong

maskalike-chin-mask.jpg

Maskalike, the company that makes masks that look like your face, now has a mask that looks like you’re wearing your mask wrong. You can obviously still wear the mask wrong, but assuming you wear it right it still looks like you’re wearing it wrong. It’s perfect for all those people who want to feel what it’s like to be judged by society as an idiot who wears their mask wrong but aren’t actually idiots who wear their mask wrong.

Super entertaining French ping pong show

secretin-purkart-ping-pong-show.jpg

This is video from Le Show Secrétin-Purkar, which was a comical ping pong show put on by French ping pong champions Jacques Secrétin and Vincent Purkart. It ran until 2007 with over 4,000 performances. Sadly, Secrétin died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 71.

It’s hard to even conceive that there would be such a thing called “a comical ping pong show” but that’s exactly what this was. There’s so much physical comedy I imagine somebody who has never even heard of ping pong would still find it super entertaining. It’s the kind of thing Charlie Chaplin or Lucille Ball would probably put together if either of them were super good at ping pong.

Keep going for the full video as well as one of their exhibition matches from 1990 in its entirety.

SpaceX Starship SN9 landing explosion captured in slow motion

spacex-starship-sn9-explosion.jpg

SpaceX Starship SN9 exploded yesterday while attempting to land and Cosmic Perspective captured the whole thing in slow motion.

High-speed cameras were rolling during the SpaceX Starship SN9 test flight in South Texas. For this mission we positioned a camera focusing exclusively on the landing pad to capture all the action during the last few moment of decent. The rest was history.

This is truly incredible footage. I’m not saying I want all SpaceX tests to end in explosions, but can we always get high-speed cameras focused on them just in case? The video is so high quality at 0:14 you can see a bird literally pooping itself trying to escape.

Keep going for the full video. It really looks like it’s out of a movie and a pretty good one at that.

Celebrities reenacted the entirety of The Princess Bride in their homes

the-princess-bride-home-movie.jpg

In the summer of 2020, Jason Reitman directed an at-home reenactment of The Princess Bride called Home Movie: The Princess Bride featuring a ton of celebrities (Adam Sandler, Charlize Theron, Pedro Pascal, John Cho, and Roman Mars just to name a few of the literal dozens).

The thing played out in 9 parts across Quibi which is why nobody saw it until some hero bootlegged the whole thing onto YouTube. And because Quibi is a thing that no longer exists, the whole video might actually stay up since there’s nobody to make a copyright claim against it. Also, this might be the only good thing to have come out of Quibi. I mean, other than the laughs at how much money they lost and how quickly they went under.

Keep going for the entire movie. The original Princess Bride is 1:38 and this comes in at 1:07, so I’m assuming they just edited out all the hardcore full penetration sex scenes.

Guy's mom made this incredibly detailed 'Mini Modern House' during quarantine

mini-modern-house-1.jpg

mini-modern-house-3.jpg

Scott T. Miller’s mom and step-dad made this incredibly detailed miniature house from scratch during quarantine and it not only comes with a man cave and game room, but also functioning electricity. The above shots have a cereal box and can of soup for scale, but the entire thread is worth checking out because this thing is bonkers.

Keep going for some more shots, including a video of the garage going up and down, or just check out the full thread here. It’s more detailed than I can convey and it’s hard to get a grasp until you actually click on all the pictures.

Orbiting the Moon in real-time

moon-orbit-real-time.jpg

Seán Doran constructed a 4-hour real-time orbit of the Moon using images from the Kaguya Orbiter. It’s exactly what it sounds like, which means it’s a 4 hour video of the Moon. The most interesting part is probably at 1:24:10 when you can see the Earth rise. The rest is just…moon. A lot of moon. Almost as much as your mom. Get it? Because she’s fat. Your mom is fat. And has a big butt. Because she’s fat.

Danny Macaskill mountain bikes down the Dubh Slabs on the Isle of Skye

danny-macaskill-the-slabs.jpg

Renowned mountain biking lunatic Danny Macaskill biked down the infamous Dubh Slabs on the Isle of Skye and, um, he didn’t die. So that’s cool. It’s weird how the drone shots make what he does look simultaneously easy and terrifyingly impossible.

Interactive Brokers chairman admits to market manipulation on CNBC

cnbc-interactive-brokers-chairman.jpg

In case you just awoke from your coma, there’s currently a war being waged against Wall Street and the weapon of choice is Gamestop stock. Obviously you’re sick of hearing about it and have already made up your mind about how you feel about it, but here’s a video of Interactive Brokers chairman and founder Thomas Peterffy admitting on live TV that they halted the purchasing of Gamestop stock yesterday to protect themselves and the people who would lose money, aka the hedge funds who have shorted Gamestop.

In layman’s terms, he’s saying they allowed bad people to make bad trades, and now he’s worried those bad trades are going to lose money for the bad people as well as himself so they stopped people’s ability to make the trades that would hurt them. The anchors even gave him a chance to correct himself and he doubled down on his statement because he’s an out of touch billionaire who doesn’t even realize what he’s saying makes him sound bad. It’s like if Hannibal Lecter walked into a room and started telling everybody how much he loves eating people and then is surprised when people start looking at him weird.

Phone battery explodes after a man bites into it

phone-battery-explodes.jpg

This is a video of a phone battery exploding after a man in China bit into it. If you’re looking for a reason why he did it, none was given beyond, “He likes to put things in his mouth.” Seriously.

“I’m the person involved,” she wrote. “…I haven’t been disfigured; thanks for your concern. He didn’t [bite the battery] because he wanted to test its authenticity; actually my partner just has the habit of putting things into his mouth and nibbling on them. I’m okay, just my bangs were burnt a little bit. My first reaction was ‘Are my eyebrows okay?'”

She added that the battery her partner had bitten into wasn’t a genuine iPhone battery.

Look, I like to eat phone batteries as much as the next person, but I save that kind of stuff for the privacy of my own home. Also, don’t eat batteries. You’ll die. Also they’ll make you fat.

Tony Hawk completes probably final 720 at the age of 52

tony-hawk-final-720.jpg

Last night Tony Hawk posted a video of him pulling off probably his last 720 at the age of 52.

He’s 52 and still able to do a 720. When I was 52 I could barely get out of bed. Wait, how old am I? Where am I? Who am I? Okay, somebody bring me back to the retirement home now.

Compilation of favorite locations in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

ms-flight-simulator-compilation.jpg

theninjacowboy made a compilation of his favorite locations in Microsoft Flight Simulator and it might be more soothing and beautiful than actually traveling to those places. Microsoft did an incredible job here, and if I didn’t know it was from a video game I would’ve assumed it was real. Now if only somebody could bring this lifelike realism to a virtual girlfriend. The pandemic has not been kind to me. And by pandemic I mean nature, because boy am I ugly.

Nia Dennis' incredible 9.95 floor exercise

nia-dennis-floor-exercise.jpg

Last year, UCLA gymnast Nia Dennis gained attention when she performed a floor exercise to Beyonce and scored a 9.975. Well on Saturday she pulled out another amazing performance, scoring a 9.95 to clinch the win for the Bruins against Arizona State.

Obviously her floor exercises are going viral because they’re non-traditional, but they’re also really, really good. Although how are the judges differentiating between scores like 9.975 and 9.95? Can you really tell when something is 0.025 better than something else? That’s 2.5%. I mean…I guess her toe was a little more bent when she jumped that one time so let’s deduct 1/100th of a point?

Keep going for the full routine as well as the one that went viral from last year. Turns out this Nia lady is pretty good at dancing around and flipping.

Baby panda won't let go of zookeeper

clingy-baby-panda.jpg

This is a video of six-month-old baby giant panda Fu Bao being super clingy with a zookeeper in South Korea.

Fu Bao, the first Chinese giant panda born in South Korea, made her official public debut on January 4, according to the zoo.The baby panda’s parents, seven-year-old female Ai Bao and eight-year-old male Le Bao, arrived in 2016 from China’s Sichuan province, the home of giant pandas, as part of China’s “panda diplomacy”.

The original video posted by Everland zoo last month has over 4 million views, though I suspect it’s fake, because how could anybody ever walk away from this cutie pie! I just wanna squish her and cuddle her and never leave her ever. At the end the zookeeper just walks away and leaves her all alone and nobody could ever be that cruel so obviously there’s some deepfake shenanigans going on here.

Using AI to transform Pickle Rick's voice into Homer Simpson's

pickle-rick-homer-simpson.jpg

Speaking of AI used an AI model trained on Homer Simpson’s speech patterns to synthesize his voice over the Pickle Rick scene from Rick and Morty. The result is pretty damn convincing and at this point they could probably just fire all the voice actors on The Simpsons since there’s more than enough data to create near perfect AI copies of them.

If nobody told you this was an artificial voice I doubt anybody including Dan Castellaneta would be able to tell the difference. He’d probably just assume he forgot he recorded the weird scene in The Simpsons where he’s suddenly a pickle and also in a completely different show.

Here's the trailer for 'Godzilla vs. Kong'

godzilla-vs-kong-trailer.jpg

In case you weren’t aware, there is currently a trailer for a movie in which somebody says the phrase, “Kong bows to no one” and in that same trailer King Kong sucker punches Godzilla in the face. So, yeah, Godzilla vs. Kong is guaranteed to be both the best and worst movie of 2021.

Keep going for the full trailer. The movie will be released sometime in 2021 (maybe, who knows?) in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time.

A site that lets you add Bernie Sanders sitting to any location on Google Maps

bernie-google-maps-1.jpg

The internet works inhumanly fast, and less than 24 hours after Bernie Sanders sitting at the Presidential Inauguration became a meme, nick_sawhney put together a site that lets you add Bernie to any location using Google Photos.

Obviously I put in the address of the White House and this was the result:

bernie-at-white-house-sits.jpg

It’s not as nuanced as some of the Photoshops that have been floating around, but it’s pretty effective for something where you just type in an address. Kind of like that creepy stalker private investigator I hired. I just send him an address and he sends me a bunch of that person’s used socks. Hey, don’t judge. I’m not stealing the socks. I’m only sniffing them.

You can check out the Bernie Sits site here.

Folding a paper samurai from a single sheet of paper

jkonkkola_origami-samurai-01.jpg

This is a video of Finnish origami artist Juho Könkkölä (his Instagram) folding a single sheet of paper into a samurai. Some people call it origami, I call it magic. I can’t even being to imagine how you design something like this. Even with instructions it would be impossible, but to create it from scratch is just, I mean, I can barely even get my paper airplanes right.

Keep going for the full video as well as some process photos of his most recent origami samurai. It has real “rest of the owl” vibes, because it goes from some crinkly paper to a damn samurai and I can’t even picture the in-between steps. I’m assuming he buys a samurai figurine and then secretly papier-mâchés it?

How to make a chicken quesadilla at Taco Bell

taco-bell-chicken-quesadilla.jpg

Ever wondered how they make a chicken quesadilla at Taco Bell? Of course not, but here it is anyway. There’s nothing really surprising going on here because this is a chicken quesadilla, not a Coq au Vin from The French Laundry. I guess the most surprising part is they cut the quesadilla inside the wrapper. Probably to keep the cutter clean but also maybe because they want to maximize the amount of plastic you’re eating.

Keep going for the full video that probably got this kid fired because all of these corporations are dumb like that.

Guy spends $5k on a rough opal and polishes it into something worth way more

5k-rough-opal-polished.jpg

This guy spent $5,000 on a piece of rough opal, gambling if it would turn out to be a green-blue stone or be worthless and riddled with sand. Turns out it was actually a 6.42-carat gem black opal worth $36,000.

I can’t believe what a wild ride this opal took us on. I went from hopeful about cutting a lovely blue-green stone to absolutely shattered thinking that I paid $5,000 for sand.

After an absolute ripper of a journey, we uncovered a stunning 6.42-carat gem black opal. This gems pattern is unreal with Cats Eye, Chaff, Flagstone and a little glimpse of Script Pattern. The orange came over the whole stone with a beautiful N2 body tone and B5 vivid brightness.

The insane gem uncovered today was a total gamble; blue-green opal rarely turns into a fiery orange, and we were fortunate to witness it. I’m shaking from the emotional rollercoaster this piece just put me through, but I’m so happy you could join me in uncovering this gem black opal.

Anyway, here’s a 25 minute video of him polishing the stone and making the discovery. Although at the end of the day, a polished rock is still a rock. It’s crazy that somebody might actually end up spending $36,000 on this when they could be spending it on something more worthwhile like cool Fortnite upgrades.

Keep going for the full video. It’s long.
