Guy Creates Curved Basketball Backboard That Makes Almost Every Shot A Basket

This is a video of builder of things Shane Wighton of Youtube channel Stuff Made Here constructing a curved basketball backboard that directs almost all shots not thrown like a laser beam into the hoop. The proper shape of the board was determined “after Wighton created a piece of software that simulated throws from hundreds of different angles and speeds. The results are an elliptic paraboloid (a shape made from both ellipses and paraboloids) that looks less like a pointed noise cone and more like a flattened decorative fruit bowl.” Fascinating. Now I’m not saying it isn’t perfect, but *charges past defender will illegal elbow, throws air ball* explain that with all your physics and geometry.

Freaky Deaky: Guy Makes Giant Human Fleshed, Blinking Eye Six-Sided Die

This is a video of the giant human fleshed blinking eye die made by Japanese artist doooo (of realistic human mouth coin purse infamy). It has moles (I’d have a dermatologist take a look at those just to be safe) for pips on all sides of the die except the one, where there’s an animatronic blinking human eye. “Why?” Why the eye? “Aye, why the eye on the die my–” Alriiiight, that’s enough of that, nerd.

Horror Director Plays Elaborate Jump Scare Prank On Friends During Zoom Call

jump-scare-zoom-prank.jpg

NOTE: VOLUME DOWN FOR THE SCARE WHICH SPOILER FOR WHAT TIME IT HAPPENS IS AT 1:25.

This is a video of horror director Rob Savage performing a relatively elaborate jump scare during a Zoom call with some of his friends, under the guise he was going to check his attic for some strange sounds he’s heard up there. Coming from a horror director I’d assume you’d know what was coming, particularly if he’s already known as a prankster. Still, the falling down the ladder and laying there dead following the jump scare was a nice touch, and now I feel inspired to do something similar with all my rich older relatives because I could really use that inheritance money now if we’re being perfectly honest. “Do you really think they’d leave you anything?” Pfft, do I really think they’ll be able to download and operate Zoom?

Stunt School Students Fight Each Other Through Video During Quarantine

This is a fun fight video created by staff and students at the Campus Univers Cascades stunt school in France while under quarantine. That’s fun. Granted I typically like my fights the same way I like my tattoos, but– “Spiraling around your penis spelling ‘HAPPY HOUR’?” What? No — in the flesh. The answer was ‘in the flesh’.

Lucasfilm Releases 30+ Star Wars Backgrounds For Use On Video Calls

star-wars-video-conference-backgrounds.jpg

Because video meeting are all the rage these days on account of everybody being trapped at home clawing at the walls until their fingers bleed (Hey Siri add BandAids and Neosporin to shopping list), Lucasfilm has just released over thirty Star Wars images optimized for use as Zoom or Microsoft Teams video conferencing backgrounds. Alternatively, just use the same background of a dirty bathroom that I use. “That is your dirty bathroom, the toilet paper roll keeps getting smaller.” Haha *flushing* that’s my last roll too.

Keep going for a few of my favorites, but they can all be downloaded HERE.

Oh, Internet: Gerbils Visit Tiny Art Gallery Filled With Gerbil Themed Art

This is a video of the result of Mariannabe and her boyfriend Fillipo building a tiny art gallery for their gerbils Tiramisù and Pandoro to visit while they’re on quarantine, presumably because it wouldn’t be responsible pet ownership to release them into the air duct of an actual museum. The gerbils seem pretty respectful at first, but then they just start wreaking havoc and eating everything and pooping on the floor — just like on a middle school field trip. “Wait, what?” It wouldn’t be the last time I visited the natural history museum, but it would be the last time I didn’t have to wear a disguise.

Adam Savage Unboxes And Plays With His New Extended Finger Claws

This is a video of Adam Savage unpacking and demonstrating his new extended articulated finger claws made by Gary Faye of Gary Faye Creations. If you’re interested in your own they’re available in a variety of styles and colors and start around $195 for a single hand, and $375 for two. So…are you thinking what I’m thinking? “Does it involve futuristic handjobs?” Well it didn’t before but it certainly does now!

Star Trek The Next Generation Edited So The Crew Sings Smash Mouth's 'All Star'

star-trek-all-star.jpg

Inspired by the Star Wars version from a few years ago, this is a video edited by Alexis Deveria so the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation performs Smash Mouth’s 1999 banger ‘All Star’. It’s pretty good, although I’d be lying if I told you it was the best one of these that I’ve heard, or that I don’t have to buy skinny jeans with an extra leg in the middle.

Keep going for the performance.

Crocheted Joe Exotic Figure For Auction To Feed Wildlife Park Residents In New Zealand

crochet-tiger-king-1.jpg

This is the auction for a crocheted Joe Exotic Tiger King figure crafted by Hannah Braxton of Han-Craft without a pattern. Joe measures approximately 30-centimeters (~12-inches) tall, is made entirely from cotton yarn, and all proceeds from the auction will go to help feed the 400+ animals at the Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch, New Zealand (you can also donate directly HERE). Unfortunately, the auction is only open to New Zealand residents, which is a shame because I was ready to drop a three followed by a zero then a period then two more zeroes. “$30.00? The auction is already at $250.” Whoa *quickly scooping poker chips off table* too rich for my blood. “You weren’t even playing.” Later!

Four-Wheeler Driving On Frozen Lake Creates Waves In Late Ice

This is a short video of an adventurous four-wheelerer driving his vehicle on a South Dakota lake and creating waves in the late ice. But isn’t late ice just liquid water? And should you really be driving on it? I feel like I saw a G.I. Joe PSA about this. Me? I prefer my ice early, and ideally clinking around inside a cocktail glass while I gesture wildly at the bar to anyone who will listen.

Keep going for the video with a much more respectable frame rate. Plus audio!

Internet Out

Hey so my next door neighbor who will remain anonymous but from now on will be known as Dumbass Matt to his face cut my internet trying to take down his old DirectTV satellite dish. He swears whatever turd service we have will be out this afternoon to repair the damage which better be true because I ain’t going back to jail for petty murder. I’ll see you tomorrow or maybe this afternoon but probably tomorrow because *opens beer can, chugs hard* yeah. Come over and let’s play bocce.

Star Trek: The Next Generation Bloopers Reinserted Into The Final Scenes

This is a series of videos from Star Trek: The Next Generation where actual on-set bloopers were reinserted into the final cuts of the scenes by Ryan of Ryan’s Cinematics. The results are pretty great. The results of my last test while being home-schooled during quarantine? Not so great. “He bubbled in the scantron in the shape of a penis then ate all his pencil erasers.” Mom! “What?” That belongs on the fridge and you know it.

Groundhog Casually Eats Pizza Outside Woman's Back Door

Seen here finding out for itself why the Ninja Turtles are always raving about it, this is a video from Philadelphian Kristin Chalela Bagnell of a groundhog casually munching on a piece of pizza outside her back door, completely unfazed by Kristin or her two large dogs who came to investigate. Apparently it sat there eating for over an hour! Honestly, I’m half surprised it didn’t run to Pat’s or Geno’s and return with a cheesesteak. Which is better, anyways? “Jim’s.” Good answer.

Oh, Just Another Terrifying Work Day At A Russian Steel Mill

This is some footage from a Russian steel mill producing what appear to be terrifying lightsabers and lightwhips for Sith giants. I could not imagine doing that for eight hours a day. Or even part-time. What I’m getting at is I couldn’t imagine doing that at all.

Plane Casually Makes Emergency Landing On Highway In Traffic

plane-landing-on-highway.jpg

In highway to the danger zone news, this is a video from Quebec City of a Piper PA-28 casually (I say casually but I’m sure this pilot was pooping his khakis and Ray-Ban aviators) making an emergency landing on Autoroute 40 (Autoroute Félix-Leclerc) in the middle of some morning traffic. Apparently the pilot was having engine trouble and didn’t think he’d be able to return to the airport so he asked to land on the highway, which was authorized. Just presumably not by the other drivers. I like how the one driver behind him after he lands is in a hurry to get around the plane. Could you imagine seeing a plane land on the highway right in front on your way to a job interview? You’d really have to question if waking-and-baking was the right decision this morning.

Sure, Why Not?: Steel Jeep Shaped Fire Pits

jeep-fire-pits-1.jpg

These are the surprisingly detailed 12-gauge, hot-rolled steel Jeep fire pits made and sold by Metal Art Of Wisconsin. The pieces are all laser-cut, assembled via tab-and-groove, and have removable hoods and roofs for easy fire access. Approximately 40″ x 24″ x 20″ when assembled, the pits are available in 2-door Wrangler, 4-door Wrangler, and Gladiator models, and range in price from $350 – $375. For reference, I made my firepit out of a bunch of bricks I stole from my neighbor’s flower bed. You do the math. “He whipped you with a garden hose.” I mean he could have at least waited for the Easter Egg hunt to be over.

Glow-In-The-Dark Guitar Strings Oscillating As Seen From Inside The Instrument

This is ‘Discostrings’, a video from musician Alan Gogoll (previously) of glow-in-the-dark guitar strings oscillating as seen from inside the instrument while being played fingerstyle. So, yeah, if you want to listen to some relaxing acoustic guitar while watching Winamp style visuals from inside a guitar, you’re in luck. If you want to see a man make actual love to his guitar, well, you’ll need to hop in your time machine, go back to my buddy Dave’s latest experimental music show, and watch that. If you want to grab a drink after just find me, I’m the one who hits him with a bottle.
