Chris Pratt Deepfaked As Indiana Jones

This is another terrifying glimpse of the indistinguishable-real-from-fake future, this time in the form of Chris Pratt deepfaked as Indiana Jones in scenes from all the movies. Honestly, this might be the most convincing deepfake I’ve seen. Any deeper and it would be real. “How profound.” I’m a thinker. “Thinker or drinker?” *slams beer leaving foam mustache* I can do it all.

Oh Wow: Cockpit Footage From Thunderbird And Blue Angel Flyby Of New York City

This is a video from the cockpit of Thunderbird 2 during a recent flyby of New York City’s East River by the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds to show solidarity for health care workers. It doesn’t even look real — it looks like a video game. Maybe it’s a video game. “It’s not a video game.” Yes it is too and I have the high score AND speedrun record.

Space Savers: Wall Shelf That Transforms Into Desk

shelf-transforms-into-desk.jpg

This a short video demonstration of a wall shelf that folds out into a desk. As far as space saving furniture like this goes, this one looks pretty decent. Still, when your apartment is as small as mine, it would also be nice if the shelf folded out into a bunkbed and shower stall. “And toilet.” Don’t have one, I just use the trash can. The key is not skimping on trash bags, you gotta get the good ones.

What Could Go Wrong?: Guy Throws Knife Into Spray Paint Can

knife-throw-into-spray-paint-can.jpg

This is a video of what I assume is an aspiring circus performer throwing a knife into a spray paint can from zero feet away and getting a face full of red on him. According to the guy filming, apparently he thought he was on fire. Obviously, the video would have been significantly better if he actually had been on fire, and had to pull a knife out of his leg at the end.

Keep going for the video while I wonder what this kid is gonna do after dropping out of clown college.

It Was Only A Matter Of Time: The AT-AT Barbecue Grill

at-at-grill-1.jpg

This is one of the AT-AT barbecue grills made by UK-based Alex Dodson of Burned by Design (previously: his Darth Vader helmet grill, Alien and Predator head fire pits, and Lord Of The Rings Witch-King fire pit). If you’re interested in one apparently he’s actually going to start selling them on his website (worldwide shipping available), at least until the mouse sends a cease-and-desist. Obviously, I plan on already having mine by then. “I’d come over and slap my meat on your grill.” Excuse me? “You heard me.” You know this won’t be the first time I’ve impaled someone with a BBQ fork.

Keep going for a couple more shots.

Melting Aluminum Car Rims To Recast As Something Else

This is a video of a bunch of aluminum rims being melted in a vat of molten aluminum so that they can be reborn as another Terminator in the future. “That was molten steel.” Yeah, it was also a movie, and the Terminator gave a cheesy-ass thumbs-up as he went under. “Total boner killer.” If I even think there’s a chance I might have sex in the next week I can’t watch T2.

Hummingbird Spy Copter Flies Through A Monarch Butterfly Swarm

This is a video from Nature on PBS partially shot by a spy copter disguised as a hummingbird so it can fly through a monarch butterfly swarm in Mexico with minimal disturbance. There’s so many of them — they look like flying leaves. Moths? Moths are flying dead leaves. I refuse to even donate one to Blathers in Animal Crossing because I don’t want it in my museum.

Keep going for the full video while I suggest next time they try to outfit that hummer with a nicer camera because some of that footage looked like a scrambled cable channel.

I Must Have One: An Elevated TIE Fighter Fire Pit/Mini BBQ

This is the elevated TIE fighter fire pit (trying saying that five times fast. Then we’ll both chug a beer, do a bat spin and wrestle!) created by artist Simon Gould (contact him for more info). Obviously, I must have one, as my current fire pit is starting to draw some harsh criticism from my neighbors. “It’s a 55-gallon drum.” So? “So you burn trash in it all hours of the day and night.” And? “And it’s in your parking spot at your apartment.” THAT SPOT IS PART OF MY RENT.

Keep going for a couple shots and the whole video.

360-Degree Pannable VR Video Of The First Hydrogen Bomb Explosion

virtual-reality-nuclear-explosion.jpg

This is a pannable VR recreation of the detonation of the ‘Ivy Mike’ thermonuclear device on the Enewetak Atoll in the Marshall Islands in 1952, the first full-scale detonation of a hydrogen bomb. Just make sure you’re pointed in the right direction for the explosion, because I missed it the first time staring at some trees. In the real apocalypse you’ll only get one chance.

Keep going for the video, actual detonation at 1:45, followed by some info about the effects of the bomb on the area, as well as some current footage of the island and its inhabitants, who were allowed to return in 1980.

Well That Was Delightful: Lady Performs Multi-Track Inspector Gadget Theme On Cello

multi-track-inspector-gadget-on-cello.jpg

This is a video of cellist Samara Ginsberg performing a very tasty multi-track rendition of the Inspector Gadget theme song on cello. She does an excellent job. That theme song really takes me back. I feel like I should have a bowl of sugary cereal in front of me right now instead of *gesturing angrily* a bowl of whatever the hell these things are. “Black jelly beans.” I hate them. “Then why keep eating them?” They’re all I deserve.

Keep going for the video while I ask my dogs why they can’t be more like Brain.

High Tech: What The Inside Of A Modern Farm Tractor Looks Like

tractor-cab-tour.jpg

This is a video of Laura of Youtube channel Laura Farms giving a tour of the interior of her new model John Deere tractor. Crazy, I always assumed the interior of every tractor was just a steering wheel and bag of chewing tobacco. Look at all those screens! If I didn’t know better I’d sweat this was where nuclear missiles were launched from. “Do you know better?” MASH THE BIG RED BUTTON, LAURA, DO EARTH A FAVOR.

Keep going for the full tour while I convince my girlfriend she was playing solitaire on that bottom screen.

Optical Illusion Of A Tanker Ship Floating Above The Horizon

floating-ship-optical-illusion.jpg

This is an optical illusion captured by a beachgoer (or near-beachgoer) in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand of a tanker ship off the coast that appears to be floating above the horizon. How about that! Why does it appear to be floating? Per one flat-earther in the Youtube comments:

Think about it. The horizon is rising. On a ball earth it would be falling. Proof of flat motionless earth.

[in response to someone asking how this disproves a globe] Funny, you believe that right now, there are birds flying upside down, planes upside down, ships attached to water and water attached the ball and hanging upside down, yet I am the crazy one. Oh wait, its Gravity…..right!! The same gravity that holds a air craft carrier to water yet allows a butter fly to fly around freely. Wake up dummy.

I’ll be honest, I used to think flat-earthers were just full of pancake-shaped shit, but that was a pretty compelling argument. And by compelling argument I mean I wish I could just get inside this person’s brain for five seconds so I could run through the side of their skull like the Kool-Aid Man.

Keep going for the video.

Electric Guitar Themed Wooden Cutting Boards

electric-guitar-cutting-boards-1.jpg

These are the electric guitar themed wooden cutting boards produced and sold by Etsy shop CuttingBoredom (!). Available in Les Paul and Stratocaster styles, the ~$95 boards can be made with cherry, mahogany, or walnut bodies, with contrasting wood inlay details. Obviously, they’re perfect for doing a little…shredding. “Dammit, GW.” Believe me *retching* I make myself sick, I really do.
