The M1 MacBook Air is an amazing machine for almost everyone. I’ve used it since the day it came out, in fact—I’m typing on it right now, and I can easily see myself using it for years to come. The M1 model is down to its lowest price yet, matching discounts from Prime Day.

If you want something newer and snazzier, the M2 MacBook Air with the new design and notch is also a great buy. Best Buy members can save an additional $50 on the M2 MacBook Air models.

Dyson Cyber Monday deals for 2023: Save up to $250 on cordless vacuums, plus the Airwrap for its lowest price yet

It’s Cyber Monday and Dyson is celebrating with deep discounts on a wide variety of cordless vacuums and related products, with a sale that’s basically an extension of its Black Friday offerings. The highlight is $250 off the V15 Detect Absolute stick vacuum, which is now $500 instead of $750. This is actually a better deal than the company presented for Black Friday.

The V15 boasts an integrated laser light and a dust particle counter to show you just how much dirt and grime it has picked up from your floor, which is great from a cleanliness perspective but bad from an “out of sight, out of mind” perspective. We really enjoyed the vacuum when we tried it back in 2021, touting its superior cleaning abilities and calling it “reliable, powerful and habit-forming.”

The V15 Detect Absolute also includes a laser-powered optic cleaner head and a handy LCD on the handle that displays the level of dust particles rummaging around the floor, along with battery life and other important metrics. To that end, you get around an hour of use per charge, with an eco mode to conserve battery life and a boost mode to do the opposite. Of course, you can also convert this little bud into a stubby handheld for hard-to-reach areas.

If $500 is just a bit too spendy for a vacuum, Dyson is also holding a sale on the V8 Absolute, bringing it down to $280 from $520. The motor isn’t as powerful as the V15, but there are plenty of other bells and whistles. This is a lighter model than the V15 that ships with two cleaner heads, with a battery that gets 40 minutes of use per charge.

Finally, Amazon is selling the Dyson Airwrap for $480, instead of the typical asking price of $600. This hair styler features a powerful motor that constantly moves air around, so there’s a reduced risk of accidental follicle damage when compared to rival products. This set comes with several accessories, including two different barrels, a smoothing brush, a round brush, a protective case and more.

Mining Tycoons Battle Over Lithium's 'Corridor of Power' in Australia

A modern-day rush prospecting frenzy for lithium, a crucial battery metal, is unfolding across remote Western Australian deserts. The arid outback that previously supplied gold, nickel and iron now hosts fierce competition between miners racing to stake claims on lithium resources needed for the global green energy transition. Lithium giants U.S.’s Albemarle and Chile’s SQM have sparred with Australian billionaires Gina Rinehart and Chris Ellison over contested acquisitions of unproven explorers there. With demand surging, the harsh outback has become the modern El Dorado as pioneers and corporations scramble to tap into lithium, the “white gold,” before rivals beat them to the punch. The deal frenzy has also come at a time when the lithium price has crashed as much as 70% compared with highs seen last year, as expectations of electric vehicle demand in key markets such as China have been lowered, Financial Times adds. The report adds: Western Australia already supplies about half of the world’s raw lithium and is seen as a stable place to invest compared with parts of Africa, where there has been political instability, and Chile, where the state has moved to take control of lithium projects. Local expectations are high. A report by Australia’s chief economist said lithium product exports should exceed A$20bn in the year to June 2023, up from A$5bn in the previous year. The report added that by 2028, the value of lithium exports should exceed those of coal, a staple of Australia’s economy for decades. Australia has ambitions to step up its efforts to refine spodumene to keep more of the value onshore rather than shipping all of its resources to China, which has a commanding share of the refining process.

This Cyber Monday Deal Makes the Meta Quest 2 the Cheapest It's Ever Been

If you want to try a virtual-reality headset but aren’t ready to shell out big bucks for the new Meta Quest 3 (let alone the forthcoming Apple Vision Pro), right now, you can dive in with the most popular VR headset on the market for the lowest price it’s ever been—and get a $50 gift credit to sweeten the deal.

The 128GB Meta Quest 2 is currently $249 on Amazon. That’s the lowest price it’s ever hit, according to Camelcamelcamel’s price history—and that doesn’t even factor in the additional $50 gift credit. (For an extra $50, you can double the memory to 256GB.)

The Meta Quest 2 is an affordable entry into the VR space

Though the Meta Quest 2 has been eclipsed by the Quest 3, most Meta Quest games are still compatible with it—there’s a large library of older games to choose from (or you can just lounge around watching your favorite streaming movies and shows in a virtual screening room). Whatever your plans, the Meta Quest 2 is by far the cheapest and most user-friendly way to dip your toes in the world of VR.

The Quest 2 is currently half the price of its successor headset, but that’s not to say it’s half as good. At its current sale price, the Quest 2 is a great way for families or VR-curious people to jump in without a big initial investment. The Meta Quest 2 got an “outstanding” score in its PCMag review, which praised its minimalistic design, great display, powerful processor, accurate motion tracking, and optional compatibility with PCs.

This Inflatable Kayak Is Only $85 for Cyber Monday

You guys know I like to take a simple boat out on the lake; I’ve written about recreational kayaks, inflatable paddleboards, and even–yes–inflatable kayaks. Well, if you’d like to join me out in paddle-land, today is the perfect day to pick up a budget boat. Walmart’s Black Friday deal on the Sevylor K5 inflatable kayak is still live for Cyber Monday, and it’s just $85.

How well does an inflatable kayak work? You can read my review of a similar model (the Intex K1 Challenger) here. An inflatable boat isn’t going to be quite as sturdy or steer quite as straight as a more traditional construction, but I was shocked at how well it performed. And the Sevylor K5 looks to be even better: it’s 10 feet long rather than nine, and has a maximum weight of 250 pounds.

I consider myself something of a cheap boat connoisseur, and those stats aren’t bad at all. I like that this boat comes with a thicker material on the bottom to resist punctures, and spray covers to keep splashes and paddle drips from soaking your lap. The $85 package comes with a paddle and a backpack so you can carry it to your favorite lake, even if the lake is a bit of a hike from the nearest parking lot or from your campsite. It also includes a hand pump. Unlike paddleboards, which require a high-pressure pump to properly inflate, inflatable kayaks only take a few minutes to blow up with a simple hand pump like the one that comes in this package.

As for the downsides of an inflatable kayak, we’ve already mentioned that it’s more for tootling around than for speeding toward a destination. (If you want a touring or racing kayak, go buy a touring or racing kayak.) Another important drawback is that the boat is easy enough to unfold before you get in the water, but once you’re headed home that thing is going to be wet. And maybe muddy. If you can give it some time to dry in the sun, that would be ideal; otherwise, make sure to spread it out to dry once you get home.

By the way, the one thing this package does not come with is a PFD (a personal flotation device, better known as a lifejacket). Make sure you pick up one of those too; drowning because you cheaped out on a basic safety device is a dumb way to die. Here’s a multi-pocket vest with all the bells and whistles (OK, just one whistle) for just $29. Or if you want to stick to our bargain theme and buy the cheapest item that will get the job done, here’s a basic model for just eight bucks. Both are Coast Guard-approved.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Takes Place In A Very Small Part Of The Dungeons & Dragons Map

Larian Studios’ hit RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 is expansive and consuming, but its map isn’t quite the size of something you’d expect in open-world games like The Witcher 3 or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. So it shouldn’t be surprising that a fan was able to pretty much mark exactly where in the Dungeons & Dragons universe…

Cyber Monday deals: The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is $80 off at Amazon

The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro has dropped to a record low of $320 as part of a Cyber Monday sale that includes significant discounts on many of the company’s appliances. The air fryer is typically available for $400. Breville’s products tend to be on the pricier side and they don’t go on sale often. So, if you’re a Breville aficionado or haven’t been able to find an entry point into its wares until now, this looks like a good opportunity to snap up a device or two.

This model is our pick for the best multi-purpose air fryer. Sure, it’s a capable air fryer, but it’s so much more than that. In a pinch, it can act as a second oven, which could be very useful if family and/or friends are coming to your place for the holidays. The appliance has a number of other functions, such as toasting, broiling, baking, pizza baking, dehydration, slow cooking and proofing.

The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is large enough to accommodate a 14-pound turkey or a five-quart Dutch oven. There’s enough space for a 9 x 13-inch pan too.

On the downside, the “Smart” part of the product’s name is a slight misnomer. You can’t control or monitor it it using an app. Instead, Breville says the device employs algorithms to distribute power as needed between six independent quartz elements to foster an ideal cooking environment. It uses sensors and temperature control to detect and eliminate cold spots, with the aim of delivering a precise, even cook.

If you’d prefer a model with app integration and voice assistant compatibility, you can opt for Breville’s Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro, which is also on sale. It has dropped to $440. With that model, you can opt to receive push notifications when your food is finished cooking. There’s a companion app with guided recipes too.

The 17 best Cyber Monday laptop deals from Amazon, Best Buy and others

Cyber Monday always brings an array of laptop deals, but many of those either aren’t priced significantly less than usual or apply to notebooks that aren’t worth your time. If you’re looking for a refresh, we’ve scoured the sales, sifted through the junk and rounded up the best Cyber Monday laptop deals we could find below. While many of the deals are left over from Black Friday, we’re still seeing all-time lows on several gaming laptops, MacBooks, Chromebooks and Windows ultrabooks we recommend. Just note that a number of these laptop deals apply to pre-configured models; if you want to precisely spec out your machine, we recommend shopping directly from a manufacturer.

Best Cyber Monday MacBook deals

Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, M2)

The 13.6-inch Apple MacBook Air is down to $929 at B&H for an entry-level configuration with 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and Apple’s M2 chip. That’s $30 more than the lowest price we’ve seen but still $170 less than buying from Apple directly. If you need more RAM and storage space, a model with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD is $200 off at $1,299. The M2 MacBook Air is the top pick in our guide to the best laptops, and this 13-inch model earned a score of 96 in our review last year. It’s worth noting that a refresh with Apple’s new M3 chip is reportedly planned for the first half of 2024, and the SSD in the entry-level config is technically slower than the storage in higher-capacity models. But if you need a new notebook right away, the M2 Air still ticks all the requisite design and performance boxes for everyday use.

Apple MacBook Air (15-inch, M2)

The 15.3-inch MacBook Air is $250 off in various configurations at Amazon, B&H, Best Buy and others. A model with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD is available for $1,249, for instance, while another config with twice the memory is $1,449. We gave the 15-inch Air a review score of 96 this past June. It carries a similarly crisp display, comfortable keyboard, long-lasting battery and speedy M2 chip as the smaller Air, but it adds a more powerful speaker system alongside its roomier display. Its base config also comes with a 10-core GPU by default, whereas the 13-inch Air starts with an 8-core GPU. This is another one we expect to see updated with an M3 chip in 2024, though. These discounts have been around for much of the past month, but we haven’t seen the notebook go for less very often.

Apple MacBook Pro (14-inch, M3 Pro)

Apple’s latest MacBook Pros are now on sale less than a month after being announced. The 14.2-inch MacBook Pro, for one, is down to $1,799 at B&H for a model with an M3 Pro chip, 18GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. We saw it go for $50 less on Black Friday, but this is still $200 off Apple’s list price. A 1TB model is $200 off at $2,199, while a variant with the more powerful M3 Max chip is $200 off at $2,999. Be aware that some of these offers are listed with shipping delays, however.

As the name suggests, the MacBook Pro is really meant for coders, multimedia editors and other professional types who’re willing to trade some portability for additional horsepower and a brighter and faster Liquid Retina XDR display. If you fall into that bracket, though, the new Pros are suitably fast, efficient and elegantly designed. We gave the 14-inch Pro a score of 90 in our review earlier this month.

The new entry-level MacBook Pro with a 14-inch display and a base M3 chip is also on sale for $1,449. That’s a $150 discount, but we advise most people to steer clear of this model. It sits in something of a no man’s land between the MacBook Air and the higher-end MacBook Pros: It has the excellent display of the latter, but few people need that, and it’s limited to 8GB of memory, which is hardly enough for “pro”-level tasks. Most are better off saving some cash and grabbing an Air with 16GB of RAM.

Apple MacBook Pro (16-inch)

The 16.2-inch MacBook Pro is discounted as well. A model with an M3 Pro chip, 18GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD is down to $2,299 at Amazon, B&H and Best Buy. That’s $200 off. A variant with 36GB of RAM is $2,649 (or $250 off), while another with an M3 Max chip and a 1TB SSD is $3,299 (or $200 off). The 16-inch Pro is virtually identical to the 14-inch model; it’s just a bit larger and heavier, and its battery lasts a touch longer.

Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, M1)

The older 13-inch MacBook Air that was released in 2020 and uses Apple’s M1 chip is also on sale, with an entry-level config available for $750 at Amazon and Best Buy. We’ve seen this deal a handful of times over the last few months, but it matches the lowest price we’ve seen. It’s really worth stepping up to the M2 Air if you can: It’ll get you a more modern design, a faster chip, a sharper webcam and improved speakers. The 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD in this config is only suitable for casual use, and this model will almost certainly be discontinued when we get the inevitable M3 refresh. But if you’re on a stricter budget and really want a MacBook, the M1 Air is still well-built, long-lasting and fast enough for the essentials. We currently highlight it in our guide to the best budget laptops.

Best Cyber Monday Chromebook deals

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook Plus

The Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook Plus is down to $379 at Best Buy, which is $120 off its list price. This is the latest iteration of the top pick in our Chromebook buying guide. Its 14-inch, 1,920 x 1,200 IPS touchscreen is good for the money, and it’s plenty fast for the web browsing and light work you’d do with Chrome OS. Both its keyboard and trackpad are comfortable, plus it comes with a decent 1080p webcam. This model comes with an Intel Core i3-1315U processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of eMMC storage, one USB-A port, two USB-C 3.2 ports and a microSD card slot. The chassis isn’t especially light at 3.6 pounds, and we found the battery to last roughly seven hours in testing, which is just OK. But for less than $400, this is a strong value.

Acer Chromebook Spin 714

The IdeaPad Flex 5i is enough Chromebook for most but, if you’re willing to pay up for something a little nicer, the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is an upgrade pick in our Chromebook buying guide. Its latest model is down to $470 at Best Buy, which is $230 off Acer’s list price and an all-time low. The Spin 714 is a half-pound lighter than the Lenovo model above (at three pounds total), its keyboard is generally more comfortable and it has a sharper 1440p webcam. The processor in this config is slightly faster, and its 14-inch display can get a bit brighter. Similar to IdeaPad Flex 5i, you can rotate that display 360 degrees and use the device like a tablet. This config comes with a Core i5-1335U, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution IPS panel.

Best Cyber Monday Windows laptop deals

Dell XPS 13 (9315)

Dell’s XPS 13 is down to $799 for a configuration with a Core i7-1250U processor, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a 13.4-inch, 1,920 x 1,200 resolution display. That’s $300 off Dell’s list price and only a little bit higher than the lowest price we’ve seen. The XPS 13 is the top pick in our guide to the best Windows laptops thanks to its svelte design, dependable keyboard and trackpad, lengthy battery life and solid display. You’re not getting the latest processor here, but this model is still performant enough for everyday work. The main issue here is port selection: There’s only two Thunderbolt 4 ports and no dedicated headphone jack. Still, if you can tolerate using a dongle every now and then, this is a good price for a high-quality ultrabook.

Dell XPS 15 (9530)

If you want a larger Windows workstation, the 15.6-inch Dell XPS 15 is also on sale. One variant with a Core i7-13700H processor, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, an Intel Arc 370M GPU and a 1,920 x 1,200 IPS display is available for $1,199. That’s $400 off Dell’s MSRP and the lowest historical price we could find for this config. Performance in this model should be good for most, though other versions with a richer 3.5K OLED panel, stronger GPUs and extra RAM and storage are similarly discounted.

We gave the 2022 version of the XPS 15 a review score of 93, calling it “the best 15-inch Windows laptop” in the process. This latest iteration uses a newer generation of Intel chips, but it doesn’t make too many changes in terms of design, which is largely a good thing. It still looks sharp and feels well-made, with slim bezels, an aluminum chassis and a soft carbon fiber deck. Its memory and storage are user-replaceable, and it’s not crazy huge for a 15-inch machine, either. Its webcam is still limited to a measly 720p, however, and it doesn’t offer a 120Hz display option. It doesn’t have any USB-A ports, either, though it does include two Thunderbolt 4 ports alongside a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port and a headphone jack.

HP Pavilion Aero 13

The HP Pavilion Aero 13 is down to $530 for a model with an AMD Ryzen 5 7535U processor, 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. This notebook goes on sale fairly often, but this is the lowest price we’ve seen for this config. It’s also $20 lower than the deal we saw on Black Friday.

The Pavilion Aero 13 is the top Windows pick in our budget laptop buying guide. It’s impressively light (2.2 pounds) and slim (0.67 inches) for the money, while its 13.3-inch, 1,920 x 1,200 IPS display is sufficiently bright and colorful. It comes with a solid backlit keyboard and the essential ports as well. It’s still a budget laptop, so it doesn’t have the sturdiest chassis, and it’s saddled with a 720p webcam. You’ll also have to navigate some bloatware. But if you want a cheaper notebook that doesn’t totally sacrifice aesthetics, it’s a decent option.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 is down to $2,063 at Amazon and B&H for a configuration with a Core i7-13700H, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 GPU. That’s $337 below the notebook’s average going rate and all-time low for a device that only arrived a few weeks ago. Other models with different RAM, storage and GPU options are also on sale.

We gave the Surface Laptop Studio 2 a score of 85 in our review. The big hook is its hinged touch display, which lets the bottom of the screen pivot and tilt over the keyboard like an easel for digital artists. We found the 14.4-inch, 2,400 x 1,600 resolution panel to look great more generally, while its battery life, build quality and overall performance all impressed as well. It’s slightly bulkier than competing models, and it’s still expensive even at this price, but this deal makes it a little more approachable for those who want a laptop for media editing and like the hinged design.

Microsoft Surface Pro 9

A configuration of Microsoft’s Surface Pro 9 with a Core i5-1235U processor, 16GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and Microsoft’s Surface Pro Keyboard is down to $1,000 at Best Buy. That’s $540 off Microsoft’s list price. If you don’t need the keyboard, a variant with a stronger Intel Core i7-1255U chip is down to $1,097 at Amazon (or $1,100 at B&H and Best Buy). That’s an all-time low and roughly $200 off the config’s usual street price. Another Core i7 model with 512GB of storage is on sale for $300 more.

The Surface Pro 9 tops our guide to the best 2-in-1 tablets. While its 12th-gen chip is about to be two generations old, this is still the device to get if you want the functionality of a laptop in the slim design of a tablet. We’re past the point of the year when Microsoft would normally announce a refresh, but the current model should still be useful if you’re coming from an older Surface in desperate need of an upgrade.

Best Cyber Monday gaming laptop deals

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is still available for $1,200 at Best Buy for a configuration with a Ryzen 9 7940HS processor, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. That matches the lowest price we’ve seen and takes $400 off ASUS’ list price. This model also has a 14-inch 1440p display with a 165Hz refresh rate. The ROG Zephyrus G14 is the top overall recommendation in our guide to the best gaming laptops. It’s a compact notebook that’s plenty capable for triple-A gaming but doesn’t totally sacrifice the “laptop” part of the phrase “gaming laptop.” It’s relatively light and portable at 3.6 pounds, and its keyboard and trackpad both work well. Its 720p webcam could stand to be sharper, though.

MSI Stealth 14 Studio

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio is another gaming laptop we like, and right now Best Buy has it for $1,100. This model includes a Core i7-13620H chip, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, an RTX 4060 GPU and a 14-inch 1,920 x 1,200 display with a 165Hz refresh rate. We gave the Stealth 14 Studio a score of 87 in our review this past June; like the ROG Zephyrus G14, it’s light for the category at 3.75 pounds and it offers capable performance for everyday gaming. This config is a lower-end model than the one we reviewed — it has a slightly slower CPU and its display isn’t as sharp or fast — but the gist is the same. Its biggest flaws are its middling 720p webcam and the fact that it can run hot under load. It’s still a gaming laptop, so battery life isn’t amazing either.

Whether you should get this config over the ROG Zephyrus G14 deal above comes down to whether you can sacrifice a higher-res display for more storage space. The G14 has more ports as well, though the Stealth 14 Studio includes a Thunderbolt 4 port, which may be important if you ever plan on connecting an external GPU.

Dell G15 5530 Gaming Laptop

A version of Dell’s G15 5530 Gaming Laptop with a Ryzen 7 7840HS processor, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, an RTX 4060 GPU and a 15.6-inch, 1080p, 165Hz display is down to $900 at Amazon. That’s a 22 percent discount and the lowest price we’ve tracked. Another model with a more powerful Core i7-13650HX chip and 1TB of RAM is available for $1,160, which is about $190 below its average street price. This is the most recent version of the “best budget” pick in our gaming laptops buying guide. It’s big, heavy (6.2 pounds) and not especially premium feeling, but it’s strong enough to play many games at high-ish settings, and its memory and storage are user-upgradeable.

Alienware m18

The 18-inch Alienware m18 is down to $2,390 at Amazon for a model with a Ryzen 9 7845HX processor, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and a 480Hz display with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution. Nobody would call this affordable, but it’s still 20 percent off Dell’s list price and the lowest price we’ve seen outside of special offers. The m18 is another pick from our gaming laptops guide: It’s too huge to be truly portable and weighs nearly nine pounds, but the giant screen is nice for taking in games, it’s sturdily built and it can consistently run demanding titles at high frame rates. It’s also upgradeable, plus it has a wide array of ports. You’ll want to keep it near a charger, though, and it’s far from the quietest notebook we’ve used.

Razer Blade 15

The Razer Blade 15 is down to $2,100 at Amazon, B&H and Newegg for a config with a Core i7-13800H, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, an RTX 4060 GPU and a 15.6-inch IPS display with a 1440p resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. That’s $400 off and the lowest price we’ve seen for this 2023 model. The Blade 15 is the high-end pick in our gaming laptop buying guide. This model is powerful enough to play most modern games at high settings in 1080p or 1440p, but the main reason to buy any Blade is its design, which is slimmer and generally more premium than most gaming notebooks. Just don’t expect it to last super long on a charge or stay especially cool under load. We gave the 2022 version of the Blade 15 a review score of 86 last year.

These Are Walmart's Best Cyber Monday Deals on Fitness Equipment

Walmart’s Black Friday fitness deals were great, and the deals continue for Cyber Monday. All of the deals below are still available, giving you a cheap way to equip your home gym, or to help someone on your gift list upgrade their gear.

Quick-select adjustable dumbbells for $150 each

The ultimate home-gym buy is a set of quick-adjustable dumbbells, but they’re pricey. Even on sale for Black Friday, a pair of Bowflex SelectTech 1090s will run you $299 each. (That’s 25% off the regular price, though, so definitely snap those up if you want the name brand.) This FitRX Smartbell is a similar design, adjusting from 10 to 90 pounds with the turn of a dial.

GET THE DEAL:

This XTERRA rower is 80% off

Is this a Concept2? No. But can you get a new Concept2 for 300 smackers? You cannot. This XTERRA rower looks like a pretty solid alternative, and it’s a whopping 80% off.

GET THE DEAL:

Get a barbell set with bumpers for just $250

A barbell is a fundamental component of a “real” home gym in my opinion, but it can be hard to find a good set on the cheap. Bumper plates, especially, are great for home gyms (less noise and floor damage), but they tend to be expensive.

Good thing, then, that this weight set is affordable to start and dirt cheap now that it’s on sale. For the price, you get a full-size barbell with one pair each of 45-pound, 25-pound, and 10-pound bumper plates. That will let you build a barbell that weighs up to 205 pounds—yes, you count the weight of the bar. To round out the set, I’d recommend getting one pair each of 2.5-pound and 5-pound plates, and another pair of 10-pounders, and this way you’ll be able to make every 5-pound increment from 45 up to 205.

205 pounds is plenty for most beginner lifters to get started (especially kids and lightweight women), but eventually, you’ll outgrow the set. If you’d rather buy a bigger set to start with, there’s also a 370-pound set that works out to 415 pounds including the barbell.

GET THE DEALS:

A squat rack for just $170

Now that you have your barbell, how are you going to squat it? Consider this budget power cage your entry-level option. (Don’t forget the spotter arms, which have a 400-pound capacity and are sold separately for $34.99.)

GET THE DEALS:

$300 off a two-cable functional trainer

If you’re interested in a cable machine, the style sometimes known as a “functional trainer” makes a ton of sense for a small space. These have two vertical cable stacks, which you can use together or separately, and they’ll come with a variety of attachments that you can use for tons of different exercises. These types of machines are a staple of hotel gyms because they really do let you do a lot of different exercises, especially for the upper body, in a small footprint.

This machine from Centr (Centr by Chris Hemsworth, I’m told) comes with a 165-pound weight stack on each cable, and includes a tablet holder if you’d like to follow along with Centr’s digital workouts. (The machine comes with a three-month free trial.) That said, we have plenty of ideas for how to use a cable machine to build your own workouts.

GET THE DEAL:

A trap bar for under $100

The trap bar, or hex bar, is an excellent tool for deadlifting. If you need to compete in a sport that requires straight-bar deadlifts, fine; but if you just want to pick something up off the ground without thinking about it too much, a trap bar is the perfect piece of equipment to do that with. This trap bar is only $75 for the traditional kind, and $70 for the “open” type that not only allows you to carry it while you walk, but also lets you prop it up to change the plates. This would be a great addition to the bumper plate set above.

GET THE DEAL:

A folding bench for just $100

Whether your home gym uses dumbbells, barbells, or both, you’ll want a bench to sit on for bench presses and seated exercises. This bench has six incline settings and can even be folded for storage. It’s got a padded top and a 600-pound capacity, counting both you and the weight you’re lifting.

Amazon Tops UPS and FedEx To Become Biggest US Delivery Business

Amazon has grabbed the crown of biggest delivery business in the U.S., surpassing both UPS and FedEx in parcel volumes. From a report: The Seattle e-commerce giant delivered more packages to U.S. homes in 2022 than UPS, after eclipsing FedEx in 2020, and it is on track to widen the gap this year, according to internal Amazon data and people familiar with the matter. The U.S. Postal Service is still the biggest parcel service by volume; it handles hundreds of millions of packages for all three companies. A decade ago Amazon was a major customer for UPS and FedEx, and some executives from the incumbents and analysts mocked the notion that it could someday supplant them. Amazon’s outsize growth combined with strategy shifts at FedEx and UPS have changed the balance.

Before Thanksgiving this year, Amazon had already delivered more than 4.8 billion packages in the U.S., and its internal projections predict that it will deliver around 5.9 billion by the end of the year, according to documents viewed by The Wall Street Journal. Last year Amazon shipped 5.2 billion packages. Amazon’s figures include only packages that Amazon shipped from beginning to end. UPS and FedEx include packages they hand off to the postal service for final delivery in their tallies. UPS has said that its domestic volume this year is unlikely to exceed last year’s 5.3 billion, which includes packages delivered to customers through the postal service. In the first nine months this year, UPS handled around 3.4 billion parcels domestically.

Amazon Cyber Monday deals include up to $400 off Roomba robot vacuums

There’s no reason you should have to do anything besides exist in the cold dark of winter, including cleaning. Cyber Monday sales on iRobot’s vacuums are making it much more affordable to put your feet up and let a machine do the work for you. A range of iRobot’s vacuums are currently discounted, including a 42 percent off deal on the iRobot Roomba 694. The robot vacuum is down to an all-time low price of $159 from $275.

The Roomba 694 is already one of iRobot’s more affordable options, but it becomes much easier to justify getting when saving $116. It’s also a great product — we named it this year’s best budget robot vacuum thanks to its sleek design, good cleaning power and iRobot’s always great app. You can control its functions on the device or through that app (except spot-cleaning, which only works with the physical button). It’s especially great if you have a smaller place, like an apartment, as the robot vacuum lasted about 45 minutes in our test before recharging in its dock.

If you want to use the iRobot sale to go all out, then check out the iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ — currently 29 percent off. The self-emptying and auto-fill vacuum and mop is usually $1,399 but has dropped to $999 for Cyber Monday. This 2-in-1 model has a retractable mop to leave you out of any system switches. In fact, the dock can refill water for 30 days and empty any debris for 60 days, making cleaning the floors something you rarely need to think about. It also has a dirt detective (which weirdly sounds fun?) that determines which rooms are usually dirtiest and starts with those.

The best Cyber Monday TV deals include up to $1,000 off the Samsung Frame TV

Cyber Monday TV deals are in full swing and they include some deep discounts on Samsung’s Frame smart TVs. You can find the deals both at Amazon and Samsung directly: discounts are available for all sizes — the 55-inch Frame TV is $520 off — a 35 percent discount — bringing it down to just $978. If you’re looking for a bigger set, the 85-inch Frame is a full $1,000 off, for a final price of $3,298. For those unfamiliar, the biggest draw of Frame TVs is implied in the name: they’re designed to look like artwork when not in use, and they do a decent job of it thanks to their matte-finished screens, customizable frame-like bezels and Samsung’s Art Mode for displaying images and even your own photos.

The discounts apply to the most recent 4K QLED Frame TVs, all of which feature Samsung’s anti-reflection matte display. The Frame comes with a slim-fit wall mount so it can be hung flush with the wall, just like any painting or framed picture, and offers 100 percent Color Volume with Quantum Dot technology to make colors pop. When it’s not in use, you can put it in Art Mode, which will display the art of your choosing. The Frame is a game-changer for anyone who detests how TVs clash with their home decor.

Samsung offers 10 free artworks to choose from, or you can subscribe to the Samsung Art store for access to curated collections from its museum partners, like The Louvre. You can also upload your own images to display, and use it like a massive digital picture frame. When the TV is in Art Mode, it can be programmed to display artwork based on whether you’re in the room. With motion sensing, The Frame can identify when you’ve left and turn off the display so it isn’t projecting to an empty room. It’ll come back on when you return.

Like Samsung’s other smart TVs, The Frame is powered by Tizen, and it’ll have all the apps you need for your streaming purposes. You can also stream Xbox games to your TV through Samsung’s Gaming hub if you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The Frame comes in seven sizes: 32-inch, 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch and 85-inch. It might normally be a bit of a splurge, but there’s potential to save hundreds of dollars with the current Cyber Monday sales.

[$] A discussion on kernel-maintainer pain points

A regular feature of the Kernel Maintainers Summit is a session where Linus
Torvalds discusses the problems that he has been encountering. In recent
years, though, there have been relatively few of those problems, so this
year he turned things around a bit by asking
the community
what problems it was seeing instead. He then addressed
them at the Summit in a session covering aspects of the development
community, including feedback to maintainers, diversity (or the
lack thereof), and more.
