Gen-Xers around here might remember the mighty Zalman Reserator, a literal tower of an external radiator/reservoir that you could hook up your liquid cooling setup to enjoy complete silence while your PC chugged away at full tilt. While the Reserator is a beautiful relic of days past, the concept is coming back in another form: the Cryorig
The first major Quest update in months introduces a new Navigator UI and a 3D effect for Instagram photos. However, it will take time for these features to roll out to all Quest users, as they are still in the testing phase.

You might not know it based on my scathing recaps of The Last of Us’ second season, but I love this series. I love the moral conundrums it presents, the violent grief it depicts, and the games’ excellent writing that poignantly brings all of those complicated emotions to the surface. What I don’t like is listening to…
Our recent article on Home Assistant
observed that the project emphasizes installations using its own Linux
distribution or within containers. The project has now made that emphasis
rather stronger with this
announcement of the deprecation of the “core” and “supervised”
installation modes, which allowed Home Assistant to be installed as an
ordinary application on a Linux system.
These are advanced installation methods, with only a small
percentage of the community opting to use them. If you are using
these methods, you can continue to do so (you can even continue to
update your system), but in six months time, you will no longer be
supported, which I’ll explain the impacts of in the next
section. References to these installation methods will be removed
from our documentation after our next release (2025.6).
Support for 32-bit Arm and x86 architectures has also been deprecated.
Alex and the Jets is a lighthearted arcade game that turns your play space into a dogfight arena.
Initially released in early access last month, Alex and the Jets is the debut mixed reality title from HOOP-O Studios. Playing as Alex the Squirrel, you’ll pilot a plane across your space as you fend off various enemies and tackle different challenges. This aims to turn your surroundings into a battlefield with a “unique casual-arcade flight” game, which you can see in action below.

As Alex, you’ll be fighting enemies using a third-person perspective in aerial combat against “The Jets” gang, fighting Sebastian, Chloe, and Monty. Flying through doughnuts offers various power-ups ranging from shields to missiles, and a ‘Free Roam’ mode is also available.
With today’s full release, HOOP-O Studios informed UploadVR that Alex and the Jets now has a fully immersive mode and Quest 2 support. Three new levels have been added with a different theme each, improving upon the endless mode. There’s also new training rounds for mastering the controls, and 60 second mini-games like collecting doughnuts or shooting as many targets as possible.
Alex and the Jets is available now on the Meta Quest platform.
Out of Sight VR, an atmospheric puzzle-adventure using a second-person perspective, is out now on Steam Early Access.
Developed by The Gang and Flat2VR Studios, Out of Sight VR is a puzzle game where you guide a blind girl called Sophie to safety across a mysterious mansion. Using the viewpoint of her teddy bear, Sophie can carry around her stuffed friend and place it across different areas to gain a better perspective of this world and solve environmental puzzles.
“Do you guide her forward? Do you wait? Or do you hide, and hope the threat passes by? The captors aren’t always visible, but they’re always listening,” advised the developer in a press release, advising Sophie’s captors are always listening. Perspectives occasionally flip through chase sequences if Teddy gets whisked away, requiring you to guide Sophie from a distance away from the chaos.
While the flat version is the full release, Out of Sight VR arrives in early access. Flat2VR Studios states the full version includes “re-imagined control modes” better designed for motion controls, more accessibility and comfort features, plus performance and audio upgrades. Other promised changes include VR-specific environmental effects and reduced transition times when picking up or putting Teddy down. Pricing won’t change, and the complete story is already included.
Out of Sight VR is out now on Steam Early Access for $24.99, and we’ll bring you our review-in-progress soon. The full version targets a Q4 2025 launch, coinciding with the Quest and PlayStation VR2 editions.
Anthropic kicked off its first-ever Code with Claude conference today with the announcement of a new frontier AI system. The company is calling Claude Opus 4 the best coding model in the world. According to Anthropic, Opus 4 is dramatically better at tasks that require it to complete thousands of separate steps, giving it the ability to work continuously for several hours in one go. Additionally, the new model can use multiple software tools in parallel, and it’s better at following instructions more precisely.
In combination, Anthropic says those capabilities make Opus 4 ideal for powering upcoming AI agents. For the unfamiliar, agentic systems are AIs that are designed to plan and carry out complicated tasks without human supervision. They represent an important step towards the promise of artificial general intelligence (AGI). In customer testing, Anthropic saw Opus 4 work on its own seven hours, or nearly a full workday. That’s an important milestone for the type of agentic systems the company wants to build.
Anthropic
Another reason Anthropic thinks Opus 4 is ready to enable the creation of better AI agents is because the model is 65 percent less likely to use a shortcut or loophole when completing tasks. The company says the system also demonstrates significantly better “memory capabilities,” particularly when developers grant Claude local file access. To encourage devs to try Opus 4, Anthropic is making Claude Code, its AI coding agent, widely available. It has also added new integrations with Visual Studio Code and JetBrains.
Even if you’re not a coder, Anthropic might have something for you. That’s because alongside Opus 4, the company announced a new version of its Sonnet model. Like Claude 3.7 Sonnet before it and Opus 4, the new system is a hybrid reasoning model, meaning it can execute prompts nearly instantaneously and engage in extended thinking. As a user, this gives you a best of both worlds chatbot that’s better equipped to tackle complex problems when needed. It also incorporates many of the same improvements found in Opus 4, including the ability to use tools in parallel and follow instructions more faithfully.
Sonnet 3.7 was so popular among users Anthropic ended up introducing a Max plan in response, which starts at $100 per month. The good news is you won’t need to pay anywhere near that much to use Sonnet 4, as Anthropic is making it available to free users.
Anthropic
For those who want to use Sonnet 4 for a project, API pricing is staying at $3 per one million input tokens and $15 for the same amount of output tokens. Notably, outside of all the usual places you’ll find Anthropic’s models, including Amazon Bedrock and Google Vertex AI, Microsoft is making Sonnet 4 the default model for the new coding agent it’s offering through GitHub Copilot. Both Opus 4 and Sonnet 4 are available to use today.
Today’s announcement comes during what’s already been a busy week in the AI industry. On Tuesday, Google kicked off its I/O 2025 conference, announcing, among other things, that it was rolling out AI Mode to all Search users in the US. A day later, OpenAI said it was spending $6.5 billion to buy Jony Ive’s hardware startup.

Meta is rolling out the Horizon OS interface overhaul to some Quest owners on the PTC, and will bring it to everyone “over the coming months”.
Called Navigator, Meta announced the new system interface at Connect 2024 back in September, revealing its name and showing a short teaser clip.
Now, with v77 of Horizon OS, the company says Navigator is rolling out to “some people on our Public Test Channel (PTC)”, and is “expected to roll out gradually to all users over the coming months”.

“Navigator gives you easy access to your recently used apps, plus the ability to pin up to 10 items in your library so you can get to them with lightning speed”, Meta writes.
“We designed Navigator based on everything we’ve learned over the last decade. And this is just the beginning of a broader evolution of Horizon OS. We’ve got much more planned for the future of spatial computing, so stay tuned.”
What Is the Public Test Channel (PTC)?
The Public Test Channel (PTC) is Meta Quest’s beta release channel. If you opt in, your headset receives a pre-release build of each Quest system software, now technically called Horizon OS, version.
Note that there are often features in the eventual stable version not present in the PTC, and occasionally (but very rarely) features or changes in the PTC don’t make it to the stable version.
Instagram Photos In 3D
Meta says it’s also “running a test” of turning the photos in “some people’s Instagram feeds” 3D, via the Instagram app on Quest.
“Thanks to our AI view synthesis algorithms, we can transform the existing photos that show up in Instagram feed pixel by pixel—no fancy 3D cameras required. That means flat photos that weren’t originally captured in 3D will automatically be converted into an immersive format that gives 2D images a sense of depth when you view them on Quest”, the company explains.
Instagram on Meta Horizon OS
Converting 2D photos into 3D is already a feature of the Photos apps on Apple Vision Pro and Pico 4 Ultra, but we haven’t seen a major social network experiment with this.
Meta teases that the test is “an early look at our plans to continue bringing more social and entertainment experiences that are 2D today into a more immersive, 3D future”.
Other Horizon OS v77 Changes
Meta says v77 of Quest’s Horizon OS also brings the following changes:
Move with your windows You can now select windows that follow you around as you move. This update removes the need for you to constantly reset your view each time you move around the room. At this time, you can only move with one window at a time.
Turn spatial audio on or off You can now decide which apps and panels use spatial audio. To manage your spatial audio settings, open the Audio menu in Settings on your Meta Quest.
Bluetooth LE Audio Bluetooth devices that support Low Energy (LE) audio are now supported on Meta Horizon as an experimental feature. This experimental LEA audio feature must be turned on in the Bluetooth settings of your Meta Quest before you are able to use it.
Text to Speech Text to Speech is an accessibility feature which allows you to hear text spoken out loud by hovering over text on the screen. Currently, it is only compatible with certain menus and app surfaces.
Changes to name tag customization We are making some changes to name tag customization options and will be removing name tag frames. You can still customize your name tag with stickers and if you previously had a frame attached to your name tag, it will be removed on May 5.
New button combination for Meta AI People that use Meta AI have a new button shortcut to reduce accidental activations. Now you can press the Meta button then the grip button to activate Meta AI, similar to how you might use Meta and the trigger button to take a screenshot. Meta AI is an optional feature you can turn on in advanced settings.
As with all Meta Horizon OS updates, v77 will “roll out” gradually, so it may take a few days or even weeks for your headset to get the v77 update. Further, Meta rolls out many features separately to the main update itself, so even seemingly having the v77 update doesn’t guarantee having anything listed in this article.
Some developers have also complained of performance regression with recent Horizon OS updates, an issue which Meta’s CTO says the company is “taking seriously” and “spending time on” addressing.
The Russian government has introduced a new law that makes installing a tracking app mandatory for all foreign nationals in the Moscow region. From a report: The new proposal was announced by the chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, who presented it as a measure to tackle migrant crimes. “The adopted mechanism will allow, using modern technologies, to strengthen control in the field of migration and will also contribute to reducing the number of violations and crimes in this area,” stated Volodin.
Using a mobile application that all foreigners will have to install on their smartphones, the Russian state will receive the following information: Residence location, fingerprint, face photograph, real-time geo-location monitoring.

If you don’t have a streaming stick, the Aurzen BOOM Mini 4-in-1 Smart Projector stands out for its integrated streaming capabilities with built-in Google TV that lets you choose from over 10,000+ apps, including Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and Hulu. It also offers full access to the Google ecosystem with a hands-free Google Assistant and multi-device casting. Households with children can utilize Kids Mode, which manages screen time and filters content, and HDMI inputs let you connect to other devices like gaming consoles—and it’s 20% off right now.
Visually, the Aurzen BOOM mini packs a punch. Its 500 ANSI Lumens brightness is suitable for dimly lit environments, while the Native 1080p resolution offers crisp, HD visuals with 4K support. Amazon reviewers appreciate the Google TV integration and also highly rank the visuals, mentioning that the device offers vibrant, accurate colors and excellent clarity in a range of lighting settings. However, they note that it may have limitations in a brightly lit room.
Users are equally impressed by the immersive 20W Dolby Audio Speakers, which many say remove the need for external speakers. A couple of folks mentioned that the sound system may lack depth and bass in outdoor or noisy settings. To enhance sound quality, this projector features Bluetooth connectivity, enabling you to pair an external audio system for a more personalized listening experience. Additionally, features like keystone correction and auto-focus make setup more straightforward, while a tilt feature allows for flexible projection angles.
While this projector can be used outdoors, it may not be ideal for camping or situations where power access is limited, as it requires a constant power source, which limits its overall portability. While it might not replace a premium home theater system, with an average of 4.8 stars on Amazon and a $70 discount, it’s a versatile and user-friendly option for those seeking a compact projector.
A consortium of global law enforcement agencies and tech companies announced on Wednesday that they have disrupted the infostealer malware known as Lumma. One of the most popular infostealers worldwide, Lumma has been used by hundreds of what Microsoft calls “cyber threat actors” to steal passwords, credit card and banking information, and cryptocurrency wallet details. The tool, which officials say is developed in Russia, has provided cybercriminals with the information and credentials they needed to drain bank accounts, disrupt services, and carry out data extortion attacks against schools, among other things.
Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) obtained an order from a United States district court last week to seize and take down about 2,300 domains underpinning Lumma’s infrastructure. At the same time, the US Department of Justice seized Lumma’s command and control infrastructure and disrupted cybercriminal marketplaces that sold the Lumma malware. All of this was coordinated, too, with the disruption of regional Lumma infrastructure by Europol’s European Cybercrime Center and Japan’s Cybercrime Control Center.
Microsoft lawyers wrote on Wednesday that Lumma, which is also known as LummaC2, has spread so broadly because it is “easy to distribute, difficult to detect, and can be programmed to bypass certain security defenses.” Steven Masada, assistant general counsel at Microsoft’s DCU, says in a blog post that Lumma is a “go-to tool,” including for the notorious Scattered Spider cybercriminal gang. Attackers distribute the malware using targeted phishing attacks that typically impersonate established companies and services, like Microsoft itself, to trick victims.
Marvel Rivals’ next big seasonal update is nearly here, and with it, some major balance changes are coming as well as a new map. And for fans of evil robots, the upcoming 2.5 season will add Ultron to the free-to-play shooter’s ever-growing roster.
Verizon is officially asking for a waiver of the FCC’s phone unlocking requirements. From a report: “Given the substantial and growing harms to consumers, competition and Verizon from this obligation — and the lack of offsetting benefits — the commission should waive this rule,” the operator wrote.
Verizon faces phone unlocking requirements stemming from its acquisition of 700MHz spectrum in 2008, and also from conditions the FCC placed on the operator’s acquisition of prepaid provider TracFone in 2021. The requirements mean that when a customer buys a phone from Verizon it’s locked to Verizon’s network for 60 days, so that they can only use it with a Verizon SIM card. After 60 days, Verizon automatically unlocks the phone, allowing that customer to use their phone on another carrier’s network.
