Telecom tells employees they won’t get bonuses if they don’t follow RTO policy

Vodafone, a British telecommunications firm, will withhold bonuses from employees who fail to comply with its return-to-office (RTO) policy, The Register reported this week.

Last week, Vodafone reminded employees of its RTO policy requiring workers to be in-office “2–3 times a week, or at least eight days a month,” according to a memo viewed by The Register. The memo also reportedly detailed the consequences of failing to adhere to the policy, which sets a guideline for compliance by the end of the company’s first fiscal quarter in July:

Employees who are not fully compliant with our hybrid working policy by the end of Q1 may be subject to disciplinary action in line with policy. Continued non-compliance with attendance expectations could result in a final written warning, which would mean individuals are not meeting the minimum performance standards and therefore would not be eligible for a bonus in 2026 or in subsequent years in which a final warning is given.

The strict policy comes as tech and other firms struggle to get employees to voluntarily return to offices. In desperation, some companies have resorted to tactics like tracking employee badge swipes and VPNs. Vodafone is looking to lure employees into the office by threatening their income, similar to Dell’s approach of making remote workers ineligible for promotions.

Viral Hit Horror Game ‘Slender: The Arrival’ Comes to Quest, PSVR 2, and PC VR This Spring

Slender: The Arrival (2013), the hit flatscreen game that pits you against the legendary Slender Man, is releasing on all major VR platforms this spring, coming alongside a fresh (and spine-tingling) new gameplay video.

As revealed during the VR Games Showcase today, the game’s original developer Blue Isle Studios is tooling the game for VR, coming to Quest, PSVR 2, and SteamVR headsets this spring.

It’s not going to be a 1:1 port either, as Blue Isle calls the new VR version an “official re-imagining and expansion of the original game, featuring a brand-new storyline, new characters, [and] improved visuals.”

For players of the original game, the studio says a new chapter is centered on how “Charlie Matheson’s father experiences his worst nightmare.” In the original game, the character is fairly illusive, as the house’s owner is only seen in the secret chapter ‘Memories’ alongside his wife, with brief mention in found notes.

There’s no specific release date yet beyond the ‘Spring 2025’ launch window. In the meantime, you can wishlist Slender: The Arrival VR on Steam.

‘Township Tale’ Studio Reveals Upcoming Multiplayer Dungeon-crawler Extraction Game ‘Reave’

Alta, the studio behind open-world VRRPG A Township Tale (2021), revealed during the VR Games Showcase today more about its next VR game, a multiplayer dungeon-crawler called Reave.

Previously revealed last year as ‘Project 2’, we now know the game is not only leaning into PvE, but also throwing in PvP for good measure, making for some deadly trips into its loot-filled dungeons.

As an extraction-based game, Reave tasks you with nabbing loot and extracting back to base. It not only pits you against monsters along the way though, but also other teams of adventurers.

Reave doesn’t have a release window yet, and is still in pre-alpha testing, although the studio gave us a fresh look at some early footage that shows off the game’s dungeons, melee interactions, and social spaces.

Alta says it’s targeting Quest 2 and above and PC VR headsets. You can learn more about the game and upcoming testing opportunities over on the game’s Discord (invite link).

‘Breachers’ Studio’s Next Game is a ‘Battlefield’-like VR Shooter with 32-Player Matches

Triangle Factory, the studio behind team shooter Breachers, today revealed its next VR game: Forefront, a multiplayer shooter inspired by the Battlefield series.

The game, which supports up to 32 players, will offer vehicles of all types, including land, air and sea, letting you traverse large-scale maps for the sort of large, dynamic encounters you rarely see in VR. The studio also promises an arsenal of new weapons, vehicles, gadgets, and player classes.

Here’s how Triangle Factory describes the game:

In Forefront (set in 2035), Orpiment Renewable Energy (O.R.E.) has discovered a way to generate nearly infinite clean energy using a rare mineral, Red Orpiment. As O.R.E. expands its global mining operations, it forms its own military force to protect its interests. Players engage in battles between O.R.E.’s mercenaries and local armies and governments fighting for control of the valuable resource.

“With Hyper Dash and Breachers we wanted to bring our inspiration and childhood experience of playing multiplayer shooters to VR. We are continuing this trend with Forefront focusing on bringing a very high quality VR experience and translating what made those experiences fun on traditional platforms,” said Timothy Vanherberghen, Chief Executive Officer of Triangle Factory.

Forefront is slated to launch in early access at the end of 2025 across Quest 2 and up, SteamVR, and Pico headsets. You can wishlist it now on the Horizon Store and Steam.

The studio says it will run playtests leading up to its early access launch, which will be announced on the game’s website. You can also learn more by joining the game’s Discord (invite link).

‘Windlands’ Studio Reveals New Co-op Adventure Platformer ‘Titan Isles’ for Quest and PC VR

Windlands studio Psytec Games today unveiled its first new project in seven years, a co-op adventurer platformer called Titan Isles.

The game looks to be somewhat of a spiritual successor to Windlands 2 (2018), the studio’s most recent game, letting co-op teams take on rope-swinging parkour challenges and fight off monsters of all shapes and sizes—bosses included.

Okay, maybe ‘spiritual successor’ isn’t the right term—it is a brand new game that leverages the same movement mechanics seen in Windlands, albeit with a heavy emphasis on co-op combat. Maybe Titan Islands is a high-tech prequel to the Windlands series? Probably not, but it does feel distinctly Windlands-esque.

What is known: Titan Isles is leaning into combat with its array of ranged weapons, such as bows, slingshots, and blasters, letting you deploy shields and swing around with your ever-trusty grappling hooks as you dodge a veritable bullet hell of oncoming attacks.

Titan Isles is targeting Quest and PC VR headsets, although there’s no release date on the books yet. The studio says we’ll learn more later this year, so we’ll be keeping an eye on the studio’s YouTube channel and X profile in the meantime.

Blizzcon will return, but not until 2026

After taking two years off, Blizzard will bring back Blizzcon in 2026. The publisher’s fan convention will take place on September 12 and 13 next year at its usual venue, the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

That means Blizzcon is going ahead a little earlier in the year than usual. For over a decade (save for recent canceled events and an online-only edition), Blizzcon has taken place in November. The first several installments were held in August or October.

The 2026 edition will include staples such as the opening ceremony (where Blizzard makes the biggest announcements for its games), panels and so on. Blizzard also says that it aims “to meaningfully elevate this iconic celebration,” whatever that means. You can sign up for updates at the Blizzcon website.

It’s been a rocky few years for Blizzcon. The 2023 edition is the only one that’s taken place with fans in attendance since 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. Blizzard canceled last year’s edition without fully explaining why. However, it’s possible that Microsoft was running the rule over the event’s future after completing its purchase of Activision Blizzard in late 2023.

Google’s 10-year-old Chromecast is busted, but a fix is coming

Google recently killed the Chromecast brand, but the dongles live on—mostly. Owners of the second-generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio have noticed this week that their beloved streaming gadgets are no longer working. It appears that Google configured the devices with a single 10-year certificate that has now expired, and updating it is no simple feat. Google is looking into a fix, and there’s nothing you can do in the meantime. In fact, trying to fix this yourself might only make things worse.

Beginning this week, attempting to connect your phone to a second-gen Chromecast or Chromecast Audio results in untrusted device or authentication errors. The unhelpful popup suggests this could be due to outdated firmware, which is technically true. Some wondered if this was simply Google’s way of putting the decade-old device out to pasture.

One industrious Redditor has identified the dongle’s certificate chain with a line reading “NotAfter: Mar 9 16:44:39 2025 GMT.” Google may have included a 10-year certificate with the intention of updating it, or perhaps plans to switch to a rotating certificate fell through the cracks, or maybe no one had a plan because Google didn’t expect these $35 devices to still be so popular a decade later—all things are possible in Google product support.

VR & Mixed Reality Pet Simulator Stay: Forever Home Confirms April Launch On Quest

Stay: Forever Home is a virtual pet experience that blends mixed reality and VR modes, and it’s coming to Meta Quest in April.

Developer Windup Minds has just released a fresh trailer for its upcoming virtual pet experience, which showcases both the game’s MR and VR modes. The trailer begins with the player exploring a magical world alongside their virtual pet, Ember. The developers promise a “world right outside your front door” that’s full of “cozy activities and co-operative challenges.”

When you get your fill of exploring in VR, you can bring Ember back into your real-world space in MR mode. In this mode, also shown briefly in the trailer, Ember exists in your living room and gets cozy on their own cute little bed.

The CEO of Windup Minds, Bernie Yee, previously released Bogo, a free Quest launch title and virtual pet simulator which showed off the then “Oculus” Quest’s wireless room scale tracking and hand controllers. It was a groundbreaking VR app at the time, which we’ve previously covered at length when support was dropped last year.

With Stay: Forever Home, Bernie Yee and the team at Windup Minds look poised to further expand the concept of VR/MR virtual pets.

Stay: Forever Home launches on April 3 for Meta Quest.

Titan Isles Fends Off Colossal Foes In A New VR Co-Op Action Adventure

From the developers of Windlands comes Titan Isles, a new VR action adventure with co-op support heading to Quest and Steam.

Developed by Psytec Games, Titan Isles marks the first new game from the studio since 2018’s Windlands 2. Set across the ruined world of Toska, which was shattered after the mysterious awakening of giant Titans, you play as one of the few survivors fending off swarms of robots and these colossal foes. As seen during today’s VR Games Showcase, here’s the announcement trailer.

Described as an “epic struggle for survival and revenge,” Titan Isles lets you play solo or with teams of two, three, or four players. Cross-platform multiplayer is supported, but what’s particularly intriguing is that each of the four Exo Suits uses a unique method of traversal with its own weapon.

For example, Storm uses hand jets and a jetpack while arming you with pistols and a rifle. Hunter uses grappling hooks plus a bow and arrow. Goliath is equipped with hand burst Jets, alongside a Kyros cannon & shield. Finally, Blink can use a triple-jump, phase-dash and a ‘Viper Bolt.’ Abilities cannot be switched between Exo Suits, but there’s no limit to how many players can use one suit in co-op.

Titan Isles doesn’t have a release window right now, though Psytec Games confirmed this will be a premium title. Which specific Quest headsets will be supported is currently unconfirmed and as for potentially reaching other platforms, the studio provided the following statement.

“Right now we are committed to the Meta Quest and SteamVR platforms. We would love to support all major VR platforms, however as a small team there are technical and logistical hurdles preventing us from committing to additional platforms at this time.”

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about this upcoming game, and the store page is now live on Quest.

Ex-Owlchemy Labs Developer Announces Cozy Party Planning Game, Penguin Festival

The adorable event coordinating simulator Penguin Festival is coming to Quest and Steam.

Penguin Festival sees players don the monochromatic flippers of a party planner and assist in creating a winning North Pole party. In the announcement trailer, we can see some physics gameplay in action, with the flightless bird hammering away at stalls, rocking out with mohawked guitarists and defending themselves from snowball-throwing chicks before taking some icy revenge. Later, we see them fishing in the ocean and taking proud selfies with another penguin – standard animal kingdom stuff.

Penguin Festival is being developed by Zi Ye, an ex-Owlchemy Labs Expert Engineer with credits on games like Job Simulator and Rick and Morty: Virtual Rickality. The upcoming game promises no time pressure for activities, nighttime festivals filled with games and music, and a third-person spectator camera for others to watch.

“My wish for this game is to take players to a world they will be happy to be a part of—somewhere where they feel welcome, at peace, and free to just be,” explained Zi Ye in a prepared statement. “I want to give the player freedom to interact with the VR world on their own terms, without asking them to invent their own fun. Rather than making a playground, I want to create a place that has a voice and a heartbeat of its own.”

Penguin Festival is coming to Quest and Steam, and a release date is currently unconfirmed.

Slender: The Arrival VR Heads To Quest, Steam & PS VR2 This Spring

Flatscreen horror game Slender: The Arrival will be released later this year for Steam, PS VR2, and Quest.

Announced during today’s VR Games Showcase, Slender: The Arrival will be ported from flatscreen to VR in spring this year. Developed by Blue Isle Studios, the first-person horror game pulls from the notorious creepypasta character The Slender Man, asking players to survive eerie environments while avoiding The Slender Man’s haunting faceless stare and hair-raising presence.

The flatscreen version of Slender: The Arrival reimagined solo developer Mark Hadley’s 2012 game Slender: Eight Pages — a survival horror experience that explores the eerie internet creation and asks players to find collectables in a dense, unforgiving forest. Alongside visual updates, like enhanced shadows and renewed models, Slender: The Arrival also introduced a new story for players to creep through while avoiding the sinister being.

The VR port further expands on the series’ affinity for immersive horror, allowing players to move through the space more literally and experience these enhancements up close. Slender: The Arrival was previously delayed to 2025, with Perp Games and Blue Isle Studios explaining that the team needed more time to ‘fully translate’ the franchise into VR.

Slender: The Arrival VR is coming to PS VR2, Steam and Quest in late spring 2025.
