The Series 10 Apple Watch Is 25% Off Right Now

If you’re in the market for a new Apple Watch, the Series 10 is currently $100 off during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale. Normally priced at $399, the current discount brings the smartwatch down to just $299. This is as low a price as this watch ever gets, according to price-tracking tools.

The Series 10 is a solid staple of the Apple smartwatch ecosystem. There are plenty of reasons that make this watch the best option for most people. It’s smaller and lighter than previous models, and the screen is bigger, brighter, and faster than earlier series. Lifehacker’s associate tech editor Michelle Ehrhardt even says it was the first Apple Watch model to actually tempt her to upgrade. Even if you aren’t interested in features like, say, measuring how far below water you are up to 20 feet, the Series 10’s comfort alone might make it the best Apple Watch for you. If you’re still wearing the more budget SE, this discount could be a perfect way to upgrade or replace your current wearable.

The bottom line is the Apple Watch Series 10 is still the same experience you’ve come to expect from an Apple Watch, but with a little more convenience and comfort than earlier models. You still have a square body, and aside from the dive sensors, the same fitness tracking. If you’re already a loyal Apple Watch user looking for subtle but significant upgrades, this is a good time to snag a Series 10 at a more affordable price.

Select EA games are now available on Amazon Luna

Electronic Arts (EA) has signed a multi-year deal with Amazon Luna, the tech company’s cloud gaming service. Now Luna+ subscribers can access EA games such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Dead Space.

The games will be available on any device with Luna, including Amazon’s Fire TV and tablets, PC, Mac, smartphone and some LG and Samsung smart TVs. More of EA’s titles, including some of its EA Sports games, will also come to Luna in the coming months. Luna has previously expanded its offerings through a partnership with gaming storefront, GOG.

“Our teams are focused on building experiences that entertain and engage EA’s massive online communities, and we’re excited to partner with Amazon to make those games available to even more people,” said David Tinson, EA’s chief experiences officer and EVP, in a release. “We look forward to a selection of EA games joining Amazon Luna, offering new ways for players and fans to come together across a variety of devices they already own, wherever they are.”

Luna+ is available for $10 a month, which includes all the games in its library. That option has a seven-day free trial or Amazon Prime members can play a select few games each month for free with Luna.

The cloud gaming service first launched in 2022 and has previously launched in the US, UK, Germany and Canada. Today it’s also expanding its availability to Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg and Portugal.

Use These Seven Tests to Decide If a New Neighborhood Is Right for You

While getting a home you’re thinking of buying inspected to make sure it’s not harboring any hidden problems goes without saying, it’s just as important to do a deep dive on the neighborhood you’ll be moving into. But while you can look up crime stats and compare property values, how can you know if you’re going to personally vibe with the new surroundings?

Here are seven strategies you can try in order to vibe-check your potential new neighborhood before signing a lease or taking out a mortgage.

Walk the area instead of driving around

Whether you’re a walker or you believe strongly in driving to the end of your driveway to collect the mail, a stroll through a prospective neighborhood is an effective way to gauge its overall feel. If you have a dog, taking it for a walk there is just as effective (and might make you feel more comfortable). Walking around will show you whether your neighborhood is buzzing with activity at all hours, or if it’s super quiet. You’ll get a feel for whether neighbors socialize a lot, or if they keep to themselves. This will let you know if the area matches your energy, or if you’ll be bored or irritated living there.

Walking around also gives you the chance to run into residents and chat them up a little. Some casual conversation can reveal a lot about the character of the place, and whether people are happy living there or gritting their teeth every day.

Hang around at different times of day

Walking is a good technique, but so is sitting. Take a drive to your new potential block at different hours of the day and just sit there for a little while and listen. Noise is one of the leading complaints people have about their neighbors, but it can be difficult to notice when you’re actively touring a home and engaged with a real estate agent. Sitting for a bit and listening will tell you whether the neighborhood is packed with barking dogs, screaming children, loud train tracks, blasting stereos, or vicious arguments.

Try a short-term rental

If you have the time and flexibility, look for a short-term rental in the neighborhood you’re considering. A brief mini-vacation there will give you a day or two to see what everyday life might be like there. You’ll also have the opportunity to find out how walkable it is, what the local stores and nightlife are like, even how easy it is to find street parking. If you can’t wait to get out of there after a few days, you’ll know everything you need to about whether it’s the spot for you.

Preview the nightlife

Walking and staking out the neighborhood are effective ways to gauge the vibe, but make sure you include some weekend evenings on your schedule. A neighborhood that’s pin-drop quiet on a Monday morning might transform into an enormous block party on Friday night—which may or may not be what you’re looking for. If you can, check it out during a holiday as well—a neighborhood that has regular block parties or other social events to mark these occasions will have a very different vibe from a spot where everyone keeps to themselves.

Even if you’re not going to be renting out a room, you might consider redirecting your nightlife to the new neighborhood for a few nights. Hit up some restaurants, bars, coffee shops, or other venues. These will be your go-to spots when you live there, so knowing whether they’re walkable, always crowded, incredibly noisy, or just not your tempo is valuable information.

Check out the grocery stores

There is absolutely a hierarchy of grocery stores, so you should check out your options in your potential new neighborhood. High-end spots will be clean and well-stocked, with fresh produce but higher prices. Lower-end stores might not be a pleasant shopping experience, and might indicate a neighborhood on a downward spiral. And having no local options and being forced to drive to a big-box store—or having dollar stores and convenience stores as your only grocery option—might make living there a lot more difficult. Your feelings about the local grocery situation might depend on your lifestyle, but it’s worth it to make sure the stores match up with your expectations and needs, whatever they are.

Test your commute

If you’re going to be commuting to and from work, school, or some other location regularly, do a test run or two. Get to the prospective neighborhood a little early, start the clock, and start your commute from there. Whether driving or taking public transportation, this will be the best way to get a feel for whether your commute is about to get much, much more nightmarish, a lot easier, or not change in any way at all.

Check the local calendar

One thing you should look at when vetting any neighborhood is any list of public events in the general area you can locate. Many communities have public websites with information about upcoming festivals, block parties, and community events like local theater productions. You can also check out the local chamber of commerce for event information.

The AirFly Pro 2 wireless headphone dongle offers improved sound and volume control

The original AirFly Pro is a fantastic little device that lets you stream wireless audio from any standard 3.5mm headphone jack. This made it a great tool for inflight entertainment systems, treadmills, CD players and any other old-school gadgets that lack Bluetooth. Manufacturer Twelve South just announced a follow-up, the AirFly Pro 2, that brings even more features to the table.

The AirFly Pro 2 doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It’s still a dongle that connects to headphone jacks to provide wireless audio via Bluetooth. This new release offers improved sound quality, thanks to the Qualcomm QCC3056 audio processor. The company says this upgraded processor “optimizes sound quality and latency, making movies, music and games sound even better.” It also helps reduce background noise.

There’s a dedicated volume control button right on the dongle, which is a nice touch. This device offers multipoint connectivity, so two people can stream audio simultaneously. Twelve South says that the AirFly Pro 2 should also connect to headphones faster than previous models.

It’s available to purchase right now for $60. This is a small bump from the first AirFly Pro, which cost $55.

Nintendo’s new system for sharing digital Switch games, explained

Switch players who buy their games on physical cards are used to being able to share those games with other players simply by handing them the card. Now, Nintendo is planning a process to allow players to share their digital Switch purchases in a similar way.

The new “virtual game card” system—which Nintendo announced today ahead of a planned late April rollout—will allow players to “load” and “eject” digital games via a dedicated management screen. An ejected digital game can’t be played on the original console, but it can be digitally loaded onto a new console and played there without restriction by any user logged into that system.

While an Internet connection is required when loading and ejecting digital games in this way, the Internet will not be required to play the shared digital game after that initial process is complete. And while both Switch consoles will need to be synced up via a “local connection” the first time such sharing is done, subsequent shares won’t require the consoles to be in physical proximity.

The latest Humble Bundle brings together six must-play RPGs

It’s been a while since Engadget has highlighted a Humble Bundle, but the latest one is just too good to ignore. The Dice and Destiny collection brings together six incredible RPGs in support of CARE, an NGO that fights hunger and poverty globally. For about $15, you get Broken Roads, Citizen Sleeper, Disco Elysium, Pillars of Eternity, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, Roadwarden and a coupon for 15 percent off of Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector.

Having played most of the games in this bundle, I can safely say they’re all well-worth your time, but a few stand out. Disco Elysium needs no introduction. It was one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2019, and if you haven’t played it yet, this is great way to get Disco Elysium for cheap. But it’s not my favorite game in the collection. That distinction is shared by Citizen Sleeper and Roadwarden.

In tone, they’re very different games. Citizen Sleeper is set in a dystopian far future, while Roadwarden is a dark fantasy RPG that fans of The Witcher series will love. However, both feature incredible writing, music and art, and if you love games where your decisions matter, few will scratch that itch like Citizen Sleeper and Roadwarden.

This Robot Vacuum and Mop Is Under $200 Right Now

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

Roborock is the maker of many fine robot vacuums (and vacuum/mop combos). They are so fine, in fact, that even when they’re on sale, as many of them have been for the past few days during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, they can cost you several hundred dollars. One Roborock vacuum-and-mop combo, however, is really discounted right now: The Q7 Max is $189.99 (Amazon lists its regular price as $299.99 and the Roborock website shows the original price as a whopping $599.99).

The Roborock Q7 Max specs

Roborock Q7 Max Robot Vacuum and Mop

Roborock Q7 Max Robot Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 4200Pa Strong Suction, Lidar Navigation, Multi-Level Mapping, No-Go&No-Mop Zones, 180mins Runtime, Works with Alexa, Perfect for Pet Hair(White)

Roborock Q7 Max Robot Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 4200Pa Strong Suction, Lidar Navigation, Multi-Level Mapping, No-Go&No-Mop Zones, 180mins Runtime, Works with Alexa, Perfect for Pet Hair(White)

So, what do you get for $189.99? The Q7 Max comes with 4,200Pa of suction, which is modest but powerful. (Some Roborocks ratchet the suction power up to 10,000Pa, but if you’re dealing with a standard amount of household dust, this should suffice.) This device also vacuums and mops simultaneously, saving time and effort. Like other models, you get 30 adjustable water flow levels, which means you can customize what the robot does based on your own preferences and flooring materials. It’s not self-cleaning when it’s in its dock, so you will need to empty the dust and water tanks periodically.

One of the key selling points of this brand’s vacuums is its Lidar navigation, which enables the vacuums to create 3D maps of your space over time. From there, the machine will figure out the most efficient cleaning route and learn to avoid obstacles. It detects stairs, automatically returns to its charging dock when it needs to, and comes with a feature that allows you to lock it in using the mobile app so your kids and pets can’t mess with it.

It’ll run for up to 180 minutes on one charge and can cover over 3,200 square feet in that time. This model uses a rubber brush that stays low to the floor to pick up dirt and hair, both from flat surfaces and out of crevices. All that being said, it only runs on 2.4G wifi, so don’t try to connect it to anything heavier-duty.

Researchers get spiking neural behavior out of a pair of transistors

The growing energy use of AI has gotten a lot of people working on ways to make it less power hungry. One option is to develop processors that are a better match to the sort of computational needs of neural networks, which require many trips to memory and a lot of communication between artificial neurons that might not necessarily reside on the same processor. Termed “neuromorphic” processors, this alternative approach to hardware tends to have lots of small, dedicated processing units with their own memory and an extensive internal network connecting them.

Examples like Intel’s Loihi chips tend to get competitive performance out of far lower clock speeds and energy use, but they require a lot of silicon to do so. Other options give up on silicon entirely and perform the relevant computation in a form of phase change memory.

A paper published in Nature on Wednesday describes a way to get plain-old silicon transistors to behave a lot like an actual neuron. And unlike the dedicated processors made so far, it only requires two transistors to do so.

You Can Get Microsoft Visual Studio Pro for $28 Today

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

If you’re a developer, hobbyist, or just someone trying to keep up with modern programming tools without emptying your wallet, this deal might catch your eye: Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2022 is currently going for $27.97 on StackSocial—down from its usual $499. That’s a one-time payment for lifetime access. Once you buy, the redemption code gets emailed to you instantly, and you have 30 days to activate it. There are no recurring fees, just a fully loaded development environment with features that make coding faster, cleaner, and less of a headache.

This version of Visual Studio marks a shift—it’s their first 64-bit IDE that handles larger projects without choking. If you’ve ever waited for your code editor to stop freezing while dealing with massive workloads, that’s less of a concern here. It supports cross-platform app development through .NET MAUI, so you’re covered whether you’re building for Android, iOS, or desktop. Plus, features like Live Share make collaboration less chaotic. You can co-code in real time, control what collaborators see, and even carry over your custom settings. There’s also IntelliCode, which is basically AI that learns your coding habits and fills in the blanks intelligently. It can finish lines of code or suggest the next logical move based on your style and context. It’s a little eerie, but it works. You can also build, test, and deploy to Azure right from the IDE, which is great if you’re cloud-focused.

There are some things to keep in mind. This is for Windows users only. If you’re working on a Chromebook, iPad, or even a 32-bit system—this won’t work. It’s compatible with Windows 10 and 11, and you’ll need at least 4GB of RAM (though more is better). Depending on how many features you install, it also takes up anywhere from 850MB to 210GB of storage.

Robinhood is moving into banking services with luxury perks and same-day cash delivery

Robinhood might have broken into the zeitgeist as a platform for trading meme stocks and cryptocurrencies, but now it’s following through on long-held ambitions in the hope of becoming a one-stop shop for all your finance needs. Starting this fall, it will offer banking services.

Those with a Gold subscription will have access to Robinhood Banking, billed as a private banking offering with individual and joint checking and savings accounts as well as luxury benefits on offer. There will be the option to send money to others in more than 100+ countries and, handily for those who are tired of traipsing to an ATM, you can have cash delivered to your door the same day you request it (depending on your location).

Features include access to estate planning and tax advisors, round-the-clock support, instant transfers between Robinhood accounts and up to $2.5 million in FDIC insurance through partner institutions. From the jump, there will be accounts for kids with spending controls and allowance options. You can have a debit Mastercard for your spending needs. Robinhood already offers a credit card. There will be the ability to link external bank accounts so you can better track your total net worth too.

As for those perks, Robinhood says it will offer the likes of “tickets to exclusive events like the Met Gala, Oscars, F1 Monaco Grand Prix, The Masters and more, as well as private jet travel, global private chauffeurs, luxury helicopter rides and members-only vacation clubs.” Some of those seem like lofty promises. The Met Gala or the Oscars don’t exactly just let anyone in, no matter how deep their pockets may be.

Robinhood has also revealed other notable updates. Robinhood Strategies is open to Gold members today and other users will get access next month. This is billed as a low-cost wealth management service. The annual management fee is 0.25 percent but that’s capped at $250 per year for Gold members with at least $100,000 in investments (Gold costs $5 per month or $50 per year). Portfolio offerings include single stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), with your risk tolerance, time horizon and other factors taken into account.

Later in 2025, the platform will debut an AI-powered investment feature called Robinhood Cortex. The aim here is to provide real-time market analysis and insights, such as what may be impacting changes to a stock price. The tool will offer trading suggestions based on your goals as well.

Nintendo Unveils Digital Game Sharing

Nintendo has announced plans to introduce Virtual Game Cards for its Switch console in late April, allowing users to share digital games across multiple systems, the Japanese gaming company said during its Nintendo Direct event. The new feature will enable players to virtually load and eject digital games between Nintendo Switch consoles, mimicking the flexibility of physical game cartridges.

Users can play a single digital title on up to two systems, requiring only a one-time local connection between devices. The company has also confirmed that Virtual Game Cards will be compatible with both current and next-generation hardware. The system will also feature a family sharing option, allowing users to lend digital games to family members for two-week periods before automatically returning to the owner’s account.

Cars Wrapped & Painted To Look Like They’re Pen And Ink Comic Drawings

Because I was just thinking the real world should be more like the music video for A-ha’s ‘Take On Me’, these are a handful of videos from California artist Joshua Vides, who wraps vehicles and paints them to look like they’re pen and ink drawings reminiscent of pop-art comics. The results are uncanny, and I want that Porsche. Or any Porsche, really. I imagine young me is probably sick to his stomach right now knowing I haven’t been able to make that happen yet.

Maybe Trump should go back to calling his missile shield the Iron Dome

The US Space Force celebrated its fifth birthday last year, when it boasted an annual budget of $29 billion, about 3.5 percent of the Pentagon’s overall funding level.

On March 15, President Donald Trump signed a stopgap spending bill that set the Space Force’s budget for fiscal year 2025 at $28.7 billion. This was the first cut to the Space Force’s budget since Trump created the military’s newest service branch in 2019.

Gen. Chance Saltzman, the top general in the Space Force, worries that the budget crunch will hamstring the military’s ability to match China’s fast-growing space architecture. The Space Force is charged with developing and operating satellites, ground systems, and weapons that the Pentagon could use to track and target enemy forces on the ground and in space.

Nintendo Today! app will provide updates on games, events and the Switch 2

Nintendo is cutting out the middle man (us). In Thursday’s Nintendo Direct presentation, the company announced its new smartphone app, Nintendo Today!, that will provide daily updates on games, characters and events. These tidbits might show up as videos, comic strips or quick break downs.

The app also has an animated calendar that is customizable to themes from some of Nintendo’s biggest titles, like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario and Animal Crossing. Plus, it will include a schedule of events based on categories you choose or your favorite games. Similarly, you can add a widget to your home screen and then add art from one of Nintendo’s game series.

These news blasts will soon include more information on the Nintendo Switch 2. The company is holding a separate Nintendo Direct on April 2 just for the new system and will subsequently share updates on it and its games on the app.

Anyone with a Nintendo account can access Nintendo Today! app on an iOS or Android device. It should be available to download today.

Nintendo just introduced a way to loan out digital games to friends and family

Today’s Nintendo Direct provided a surprising bit of software news. The company just announced something called Virtual Game Card, which is a way to make playing and sharing downloaded titles more convenient.

As the name suggests, this system creates a digital simulacrum of a physical game card. This means that multi-Switch households will easily be able to start a game on one console and transfer to another without any real hassle. Nintendo says they want to make digital games as easy to use as physical game cards.

Sure, starting something on a regular Switch before moving over to the OLED model is a nice feature, but that’s not the only hook. Nintendo, a company that famously loves money, is going to let us lend out digital games. This is pretty darned cool.

There are some caveats. You can only loan games to up to eight people on the same Nintendo Family Account, so it’s really for families and tight-knit groups of friends. Also, the systems have to be able to connect locally via the same wireless network. So you can’t loan out a game to someone on the other side of the country.

You can only lend one game out at a time and it lasts for two weeks. This functionality will be available at the end of April. Don’t worry. It’s also coming to Switch 2.

My Favorite Robot Vacuum Is Half Off During Amazon’s Big Spring Sale

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.

I test and review a lot of robot vacuums and mops. Usually, they’re premium or flagship models, which makes the Switchbot K10+ an outlier, but it still impresses me every time I use it—so much that it is one of the few vacuums I’ve held onto to use myself. When Switchbot upgraded the K10+ to the K10+ Pro, it got even better (they made the vacuum suction more powerful and dropped the mop attachment). Right now, during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, it’s $300, which is half off its regular price.

What makes it so special? It’s tiny. About 2/3 the size of normal robot vacuums, it can get between and under spaces no other robot can. The radius it makes around chair legs and furniture is tiny, as well. It’s quiet, and it doesn’t get stuck on larger debris, or trapped in places because it’s so small it can escape any spot most robots get stuck in.

Despite having about half the suction of premium robots, it works spectacularly across carpet, hardwood, tile, or rugs. The tower is petite, and is self-emptying. The Switchbot app is simple and easy to navigate, too. You can still create complicated maps and schedules.

While, generally speaking, I think most people should get a combo vacuum and mop these days, I’ve gifted the K10+ Pro to a number of people for their offices or smaller homes, and they’ve all raved about the machine. The current sale puts it below $300, and at that price, it is the best robot vacuum deal out there.

The minimalist Light Phone III is officially available for purchase

Light, the company behind a pair of minimalist handsets, just released the Light Phone III. This is the perfect device for those who are tired of modern smartphones, with their easy access to doomscrolling and their abundance of wonky AI tools.

The Light Phone III features a sleek black-and-white OLED display, which is a new design element. The previous models included e-paper screens. The big draw, however, is not what this phone has but what it doesn’t have. There are no third-party apps. There’s no access to social media, the internet or even email. It’s intended to be, first and foremost, a phone.

It’s not completely bare. This model includes an embedded NFC chip for making payments, a bare-bones music player, a podcast player, a messaging app, a flashlight, voice notes, a calendar, a timer and an alarm. It also includes a simple camera system that was inspired by point-and-shoot models. There’s a two-step shutter button with center focus and a fixed focal length. The company calls it “genuinely fun.”

The Light Phone III has a navigation app, which is likely the most useful part of modern smartphones, but with a twist. The company paid for private access to navigational information, so Google won’t get ahold of any tracking data.

Other specs include 6GB of RAM, up from 1GB in the Light Phone II, 128GB of memory and a newer Qualcomm chip. It includes a fingerprint ID on the power button, a USB-C port and some loudspeakers at the bottom. The battery is also user-replaceable, which is a huge bonus. It’s larger than previous generations and I find it to be pretty cute. It’s around the width of a modern iPhone, but much shorter. This was on purpose, the company says, to make it easier to text while holding it vertically.

There is a spot of bad news here. The Light Phone III costs $800, which dwarves the price of the second-gen model. It was available for much cheaper as a pre-order bonus, but those days are gone.

You Can Now Generate Podcast-Style ‘Audio Overviews’ Directly in Gemini AI

Last year, Google released a niche feature in its experimental NotebookLM product that turned out to be a sleeper hit. You could upload any document to NotebookLM, and it would use AI to generate a two-person conversational podcast out of it. These aren’t meant to be uploaded online for viewership, but for you to listen to as a learning ad.

The idea is that there are times when it’s easier to understand a concept when two people are just casually conversing about it. If that sounds appealing to you, good news: you no longer need to dive into the unfamiliar NotebookLM interface to try it out. Google’s AI-generated podcasts, called Audio Overviews, are now available for free directly in the Gemini app and website. And now that Audio Overviews are integrated directly into Gemini, you can even use Gemini’s own Deep Research reports as sources for your podcast.

Personally, I’ve found it useful to first prompt Gemini to create a Deep Research report on a topic, then directly generate an Audio Overview from it (skipping past having to read it myself).

Generate and download podcasts on any topic

To get started, use the Gemini website or the Gemini app. To upload your own document or slide show, click the Plus button and add in your desired source file. As soon as the file is processed, you’ll see a button for Generate Audio Overview.

Uploading files and generating audio overviews.

Credit: Khamosh Pathak

Press the button and wait for Gemini to begin its work. It can take anywhere between 3–5 minutes to generate your podcast audio, depending on the depth of the material.

Alternatively, you can prompt Gemini to create a report for you using the Deep Research option below the text box. Here, too, you’ll have to wait a couple of minutes until the research is ready. Then, open the Deep Research document, click the down-arrow button, and then use the Generate Audio Overview button. You can also just enter “Generate Audio Overview” in the text box.

When the processing is done, you’ll get a notification from the Gemini website or the app. You’ll now see a player in the chat box. Hit the Play button to start playback, and use the seek bar to jump to any point in the recording. Yes, there’s speed control too, but you can only increase the playback speed up to 1.5x.
