Volkswagen has just announced the 2020 production of the Volkswagen I.D., a poorly named electric vehicle that looks like a Mac mouse and has an estimated single-charge range of 373 miles. For reference, most existing electric vehicles have a range of less than 100 miles except for Tesla models, which can get 200+ and cost accordingly. My bike? My bike can go about four miles on a single Whopper Jr. combo from Burger King before I need a nap.
As for the price, Volkswagen says it will have a price on the level of today’s Golf Diesel with comparable power. That’s less than $30,000 in the U.S., though we don’t know whether that’s before or after tax credit.
You know what we should be developing instead of electric cars? Affordable and efficient jetpacks. Nothing screams the future louder like jetpacks. And nobody screams jetpacks louder than myself. Check it: *clears throat* PEENIIIIISSSSS!! Wait, hold up, let me get a do-over. Actually, no, I was happy with that. Impressive right? I’ve got some pipes.
Keep going for a video unveiling of the vehicle at the recent Paris Motor Show.
