Apparently, the US governement is requesting more and more information on customers from Amazon every year. In a recently released transparency report Amazon shows nearly 2,000 requests from information from the government in the first six months of 2017. Of that number they handed over information for almost 900 of those requests. I guess the good news here is that they aren’t giving it all up, but the low number of requests is interesting. However, the bad news is they are trending upwards in full responses.
Amazon said it responds to these only with “non-content information”, which could be name, address, email address, billing info, some purchase history and service usage information.
