This is a video demonstration of FORPHEUS (Future Omron Robotics Technology for Exploring Possibility of Harmonized aUtomation with Sinic Theoretics, okaaaaay), a robot developed by Taku Oya that was just recognized by the Guinness Book Of World Records as the first robot table tennis tutor. It uses AI to assess the skill level of its opponent and play accordingly. It can also offer tips and provide encouragement via an LED messaging system on its net. It cannot retrieve balls that hit the floor or make a fridge run for Sunny-D. You know I used to have one of those ping pong tables that had one end that folded up, so I could just play against the wall, which is handy when you don’t have any friends. I never won.
