Contrary to popular belief, PCs aren’t dead. The top 5 notebook brands in the world saw a 11% increase in August shipments. HP reported a 20% increase, while Lenovo only reported an increase of less than 10% due to tension in China. However, thanks to Intel’s CPU shortage, shipments are still down down year on year.
The top-3 ODMs witnessed an on-month increase of around 10% in combined shipments in August. Quanta Computer surpassed Compal Electronics and returned as the largest maker worldwide thanks to dramatic growths in its orders from US- and Taiwan-based clients, boosting its shipments by nearly 20% in the month.
