Was there ever any doubt that once your mom and absent dad had adopted Facebook, that it would immediately prove to be uncool? Youtube, Instagram, and Snapchat now hold title to the most popular platforms by the folks that will will running the country in an generation or two, after they move out of their parents house. Pew Research has all the data, and there is a lot of it beyond what we are mentioning here. I did go dig up my MySpace account the other day. Amazingly, still there, and will be cooler than ever in another 10 years. Hi Tom!
This shift in teens’ social media use is just one example of how the technology landscape for young people has evolved since the Center’s last survey of teens and technology use in 2014-2015. Most notably, smartphone ownership has become a nearly ubiquitous element of teen life: 95% of teens now report they have a smartphone or access to one. These mobile connections are in turn fueling more-persistent online activities: 45% of teens now say they are online on a near-constant basis.
