Facebook has now made its 2FA much easier to set up, and has also made it able to use its 2FA without the use of your phone number, not that Facebook would ever sell that to anyone. Whatever you think, your account can now be much more secure. This should allow you to voluntarily post all your personal information to Facebook yourself, so that can all be sold in a secure fashion. I know when I am posting all my very personal information on Facebook, I want to be sure that I am the one doing it.



We previously required a phone number in order to set up two-factor authentication, to help prevent account lock-outs. Now that we have redesigned the feature to make the process easier to use third-party authentication apps like Google Authenticator and Duo Security on both desktop and mobile, we are no longer making the phone number mandatory.

Why use two-factor authentication? Two-factor authentication is an industry best practice for providing additional account security. We continue to encourage enabling two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of protection to your Facebook account.
