ZDNet is suggesting that “Intel will soon stop being a PC-centric company.” Well, when you finally tell the world that every CPU you have made over the last decade is a center for cyberattack, maybe stopping being PC-centric is not such a bad idea. Ah oh, I think I hear the “death of the PC” drums beating again, as they do every other year for the last 20. Of course Intel having some competition from AMD again after 10 years might put a new spin on the ball as well.
Intel has been trying to reduce its dependence on the PC business by moving into data-centric businesses such as the Internet of Things, which includes automated driving. These made up 47 percent of revenues in fiscal 2017, so in the next few years, the PC could become a minority.
