Just weeks after being activated, Elon Musk’s battery in South Australia is claiming another world record for the time it took to spring into action following a power outage: the battery bounded into action just 140 milliseconds after a power plant in a neighboring state suffered a failure, preventing a blackout from affecting numerous homes in nearby towns and cities.
“That’s a record and the national operators were shocked at how quickly and efficiently the battery was able to deliver this type of energy into the market,” State Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis told 5AA radio. The quick response time of the battery exceeded expectations and shows how easily Tesla outperforms other sources of backup power, Koutsantonis added.
