New technology is being developed by Draper that could result in a ‘go home’ function for spacesuits in the future. Basically it’s an autonomous system that can be turned on to take an astronaut back to a safe area without any action of his own. This would be an excellent fail-safe if an astronaut fell unconscious or was hurt. Great idea and I’m surprised it took this long to think of it.



It’s not just for space, however – this could also find application in fields including emergency response, and skydiving, Draper says. Plus, it could be combined with some of its other research into spacesuit tech, including boots and gloves that pass on sensor data to the wearer within to give them heightened senses.
