Pixel 2 XL Battery Usage Report

I got to see just how long the battery would hold out on the Pixel 2 XL this weekend. This was under what I would call my “normal” usage profile. It included a lot of HardForum surfing, weather radar checking (storms in the area), navigation, phone calls, tons of texting, and at least four hours of streaming to a ChromeCast. I did have one stint in the car (with the top down in great weather on Saturday) with the phone plugged into a car charger for about 45 minutes running Waze with the brightness turned all the way up, and I could still see the screen just fine, which surprised me a bit.

I went a bit over two full days before I hit the 10% mark on the battery which showed close to a full 8 hours of screen usage. I think the phone charged about 8%+ while in the car. This was also with the Now Playing feature on, which works very well, and I would suggest it did not have any big detriment on the phone’s charge as some were surmising. I was not using the adaptive brightness feature as I find it makes the screen too bright for my liking while inside. My screen brightness was set to right around 20% for most of the duration of usage, except of course while in the car.
