Electronic Devices Will Get Enhanced Screening in US Airports

Be wary would-be travelers. The TSA says it will require mandatory screening of electronic devices larger than a cellphone from travelers’ carry-on bags in order for TSA employees to get a clearer X-ray image of the devices. Anyone enrolled in the TSA Precheck program will not need to remove their devices for screening. The developments are part of measures to “strenghthen and secure” the safety of passengers with the new procedures amid fears of electronic devices posing as homemade bombs. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be placed under arrest on site.

Last year, taxpayers spent about $186 million to deploy 2,393 officers to blend in at 87 airports to help with screening and identify possible terrorists.

…the TSA said that the new electronics screening measures are already in place at 10 airports and that the program is expected to roll out nationwide in the coming weeks and months.
