So the story on this is changing again. Google and its support seems to not be able to make up its mind about what is going on. Google’s Project Fi is telling the seller of the Pixel XL that I own, that these phones have not been reported stolen (a third 180 degree turn on that stance) and it does in fact (“fact” is used loosely here) seem to be an issue with Pixel phones originally purchased from Project Fi.
The rep checked the device ESN and it has nothing to do with the device being reported stolen or defaulted on. Apparently it has something to do with Project Fi system not dissociating the phone from the Project Fi account it was on prior. Good news is they should be able to resolve the issue.
So this would be a much better outcome than if the phones were part of some widespread fraud or account default. Swappa is concerned with getting whatever information it can to turn over to Swappa customers that have bought Pixel phones recently.
