As noted yesterday, my Pixel XL phone was blacklisted yesterday morning as stolen. At the time, Google support was causing me to have more questions than answers. Google support did tell me that the Pixel XL was originally purchased from Project Fi. Finally this morning, Project Fi support has reached out to me with this messaging.
Hi Kyle,
Thank you for contacting Project Fi Support! My name is Kiyomi, a Specialist here at Project Fi and I can definitely assist with the blacklisting issue of your Pixel XL.
I just wanted to reach out and update you on the status of your case! We have submitted your information to our engineers and as soon as we have more information to provide, we’ll reach back out to you.
Meanwhile, if you have any questions, feel free to reply to this email.
Thanks,
Kiyomi

Since several other Android-centric phone sites have picked up this story, I am finding many other reports of Pixel phones being blacklisted this week, just as Swappa support mentioned to me yesterday.
We have seen a great number of Pixel devices becoming blacklisted the past two days. We are still trying to figure out why this has happened to so many devices. We are working to find out the cause of this widespread issue.
While I have no proof of this, it would seem that the mass blacklisting was likely generated by Project Fi and I suspect that it has been the target of some sort of mass fraud. I have no evidence of that yet, but I am digging to see if we can get any sort of information to share with your here. Stay tuned.
