WannaCry RansomWare RansomWare Small Impact to US Infrastructure

Reuters is reporting that WannaCry has had very little effect on critical US infrastructure and no impact at all to government computing systems, which quite frankly is something that is good to know, and probably not expected by all of us techies.

WASHINGTON, May 15 (Reuters) – A small number of U.S. critical infrastructure operators have been affected by the global ransomware worm, but there has been no significant disruption in their work, a Department of Homeland Security official told Reuters on Monday.

There have been no victims of the cyber attack within the U.S. federal government at this time, the official said.

However, when it comes to businesses, it looks as though 150 countries are dealing with WannaCry at the business level. And even it was reported to us that Russian government computers where hit as well.

Given the amount of computes that we have seen impacted, it looks as though the RansomWorm has only brought in $50,000 (as of this morning) for its creator.
