That\u2019s a device passcode, so you can lock your data when your watch isn\u2019t on your wrist. setup\u2014what you have right now if you <em>aren\u2019t<\/em> on the beta program\u2014devices that have a \u201cwallet\u201d feature will ask you to set up a passcode to use the wallet. Then, when you tap your watch to use Garmin Pay at a store checkout, you\u2019ll have to enter a four-digit code.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new update adds the ability to lock your <em>entire<\/em> watch, not just the wallet. Here\u2019s how to turn it on:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Enroll in the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.garmin.com\/en-US\/?faq=bVo5U5BV292BSr2gkZhY2A\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"open in a new window\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>beta program<\/u><\/a> (more about that below)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Go into your Settings menu<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select <strong>System<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Under <strong>Passcode<\/strong>, you\u2019ll have the option for \u201cOn\u201d or \u201cWallet only.\u201d Select \u201cOn\u201d if you want to have to enter the passcode each time you put your watch on.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"what-you-can-and-cant-do-with-a-garmin-passcode\">What you can and can\u2019t do with a Garmin passcode<\/h2>\n<p>With the passcode enabled, you\u2019ll have to punch in your code when you put your watch on, but otherwise things will work as usual\u2014for you.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For someone who doesn\u2019t know the code, they can pick up the watch and look at it, but most things beyond the watch face will be locked behind the passcode. To a stranger who doesn\u2019t know the code, here\u2019s what is still available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>The watch face is visible as usual<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The light button works to turn the watch face or light on and off<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If an activity was running when you took the watch off, it will remain running<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>You can still answer a phone call<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The flashlight and emergency assistance shortcuts still work<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And here is what is not:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>The glances (data you reach by scrolling down from the watch face) are locked<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The settings menu is locked<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The activity menu is locked, so you can\u2019t start a new activity<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The shortcuts menu (hold the top left button on a Forerunner) only contains five options: power off, lock device, turn the touchscreen on or off, flashlight, and emergency assistance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Everything else that might be on that menu, like your wallet, timers, find my phone, etc.\u2014all are missing.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"which-garmin-watches-are-getting-the-device-passcode-feature\">Which Garmin watches are getting the device passcode feature?<\/h2>\n<p>Garmin <a href=\"https:\/\/support.garmin.com\/en-US\/?faq=oV4SrjEVTv457Qe4slSge5\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"open in a new window\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>says<\/u><\/a> that the following watches are getting the device passcode feature, so long as you are enrolled in the beta, you have the latest beta software installed, and you have the most recent version of the Garmin Connect app:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Enduro 3<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Fenix 8 (AMOLED or Solar) and Fenix E<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Forerunner 165, 255, 265, 955, and 965, and their variations (including S and Music)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Venu 3 and 3S<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Vivoactive 5<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-enable-the-beta-to-get-the-passcode-feature\">How to enable the beta to get the passcode feature<\/h2>\n<p>If you like getting new Garmin features, I\u2019d recommend signing up for the beta. I haven\u2019t found things to be buggy, although that\u2019s always a risk with <em>any<\/em> beta program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Garmin\u2019s instructions for enrolling in the beta program are <a href=\"https:\/\/support.garmin.com\/en-US\/?faq=bVo5U5BV292BSr2gkZhY2A\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"open in a new window\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>here<\/u><\/a>. Basically, you\u2019ll use your Garmin Connect app to select your device, then tap Join Beta Software Program, and agree to the terms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Within an hour, you should be able to install the latest software.
