{"id":1234727,"date":"2025-02-25T09:57:01","date_gmt":"2025-02-25T14:57:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prime-wow.com\/?p=1234727"},"modified":"2025-02-25T09:57:01","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T14:57:01","slug":"us-employee-screening-firm-disa-hit-with-data-breach-affecting-over-3-3-million-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prime-wow.com\/?p=1234727","title":{"rendered":"US employee screening firm DISA hit with data breach affecting over 3.3 million people"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>US-based employee screening services provider DISA Global Solutions said it was breached by hackers, putting the personally identifiable information of 3.3 million people at risk.<\/p>\n<p>While DISA informed Maine\u2019s attorney general of the data breach <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maine.gov\/agviewer\/content\/ag\/985235c7-cb95-4be2-8792-a1252b4f8318\/b823b27d-5fe2-4f09-8753-b362741d7f95.html\"><ins>yesterday<\/ins><\/a> (thanks, <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/02\/25\/us-employee-screening-giant-disa-says-hackers-accessed-data-of-more-than-3m-people\/\"><em><ins>TechCrunch<\/ins><\/em><\/a>) and <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/doc\/data-breach-report-2025\/download\"><ins>reported the hack<\/ins><\/a> to Massachusetts\u2019s Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation earlier on February 22, the attack began over a year ago, on February 9, 2024. The unidentified hacker accessed DISA\u2019s network for two months before the company noticed on April 22, 2024. However, there\u2019s allegedly \u201cno evidence of actual or attempted misuse\u201d of personal information.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a sample notification letter sent to those affected by the hack, DISA claimed it \u201ccould not definitively conclude the specific data procured\u201d even after an investigation with third-party assistance. However, the Massachusetts filing listed what the attackers accessed: Social Security numbers, financial accounts, driver\u2019s licenses and credit and debit numbers. DISA didn\u2019t share other details on the attack.<\/p>\n<p><a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/disa.com\/franchise#:~:text=Since%201986%2C%20DISA%20has%20been,of%20safety%20at%20your%20workplace.\"><ins>DISA<\/ins><\/a> serves over 55,000 customers, including 30 percent of Fortune 500 companies. The company offers drug, alcohol and background checks. This allows it to collect sensitive information, making it a prime target for cybercriminals.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unknown why DISA took almost a year to notify anyone, especially when employee screening is a highly sensitive industry.
