This time, it&#8217;s Anthropic with the introduction of <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anthropic.com\/news\/claude-3-7-sonnet\">Claude 3.7 Sonnet<\/a>. The company describes its latest release as the market&#8217;s first &#8220;hybrid reasoning model,&#8221; meaning the new version of Claude can both answer a question nearly instantaneously or take its time to work through it step by step. As the user you can decide what approach Claude takes, with a dropdown menu allowing you to select the &#8220;thinking mode&#8221; you want it to take.<\/p>\n<div id=\"9d45e6e311754a4f8b82ce83568259c6\">\n<div style=\"left:0;width:100%;height:0;position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/t3nnDXa81Hs?rel=0\" style=\"top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;position:absolute;border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" scrolling=\"no\" data-embed-domain=\"www.youtube.com\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve developed Claude 3.7 Sonnet with a different philosophy from other reasoning models on the market. Just as humans use a single brain for both quick responses and deep reflection, we believe reasoning should be an integrated capability of frontier models rather than a separate model entirely,&#8221; writes Anthropic. &#8220;This unified approach also creates a more seamless experience for users.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Anthropic doesn&#8217;t name OpenAI explicitly, but the company is clearly taking a shot at its rival. Between GPT-4, <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/openais-new-o1-model-is-slower-on-purpose-185711459.html\">o1, o1-mini<\/a> and now <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/openais-o3-mini-is-here-and-available-to-all-users-190918706.html\">o3-mini<\/a>, OpenAI offers many different models, but unless you follow the company closely, the number of systems on offer can be overwhelming; in fact, Sam Altman recently <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/openai-will-offer-free-chatgpt-users-unlimited-access-to-gpt-5-211935734.html\">admitted as much<\/a>. &#8220;We hate the model picker as much as you do and want to return to magic unified intelligence,&#8221; he <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/1889755723078443244\">posted on X<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic says it also took a different approach to developing Claude&#8217;s reasoning capabilities. &#8220;We&#8217;ve optimized somewhat less for math and computer science competition problems, and instead shifted focus towards real-world tasks that better reflect how businesses actually use LLMs,&#8221; the company writes. To that point, current Claude users can look forward to &#8220;particularly strong improvements in coding and front-end web development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"13ea3fa3e5674d528d65ff41561a7c36\">\n<div style=\"left:0;width:100%;height:0;position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AJpK3YTTKZ4?rel=0\" style=\"top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;position:absolute;border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" scrolling=\"no\" data-embed-domain=\"www.youtube.com\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Claude 3.7 Sonnet is available to use starting today across all Claude plans, including Anthropic&#8217;s free tier. Developers, meanwhile, can access the new model through the company&#8217;s API, Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud&#8217;s Vertex AI.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of developers, Anthropic is also introducing Claude Code, a new &#8220;agentic&#8221; tool that allows you to delegate coding tasks to Claude directly from a terminal interface.
