The work, he complained on social media, was aimed at helping \u201cthroat cancer patients recover from radiation therapy faster.\u201d And yet, he noted on <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/dlipomi.bsky.social\/post\/3li3thme3qc22\">Bluesky<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/darren-lipomi-5926187_cruz-led-investigation-uncovers-2-billion-activity-7295812417756835840-HLDF?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAAJYWNkBP6AxLEpYMfMrbJfVwtOdENA1LE8\">LinkedIn<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/darren_lipomi\/status\/1890179491554816498\">X<\/a>, his project was among nearly 3,500 National Science Foundation grants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commerce.senate.gov\/2025\/2\/cruz-led-investigation-uncovers-2-billion-in-woke-dei-grants-at-nsf-releases-full-database\">recently described<\/a> by the likes of Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican and chair of the powerful Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, as \u201cwoke DEI\u201d research. These projects, Cruz argued, were driven by \u201cNeo-Marxist class warfare propaganda,\u201d and \u201cfar-left ideologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeedless to say,\u201d Lipomi wrote of his research, \u201cthis project is not espousing class warfare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commerce.senate.gov\/services\/files\/4BD2D522-2092-4246-91A5-58EEF99750BC\">list<\/a> of grants was compiled by a group of Senate Republicans last fall and released to the public earlier this month, and while the NSF does not appear to have taken any action in response to the complaints, the list\u2019s existence is adding to an atmosphere of confusion and worry among researchers in the early days of President Donald J. Trump\u2019s second administration. Lipomi, for his part, described the situation as absurd.
