{"id":1215238,"date":"2025-02-14T15:04:47","date_gmt":"2025-02-14T20:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prime-wow.com\/?p=1215238"},"modified":"2025-02-14T15:04:47","modified_gmt":"2025-02-14T20:04:47","slug":"measles-outbreak-in-undervaccinated-texas-area-doubles-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prime-wow.com\/?p=1215238","title":{"rendered":"Measles outbreak in undervaccinated Texas area doubles\u2014again"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A measles outbreak in an area of Texas with abysmal vaccination rates continues to mushroom, with cases doubling since Tuesday and expanding into additional counties.<\/p>\n<p>A week ago, officials reported <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/health\/2025\/02\/measles-outbreak-erupts-in-one-of-texas-least-vaccinated-counties\/\">nine confirmed cases<\/a> in Gaines County, at the border of New Mexico, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates among kindergartners in the state at just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dshs.texas.gov\/immunizations\/data\/school\/coverage\">about 82 percent<\/a>. On Tuesday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/health\/2025\/02\/measles-outbreak-doubles-in-one-of-texas-least-vaccinated-counties\/\">cases climbed to 24<\/a>, all in Gaines. In Friday&#8217;s update, the state health department reports that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dshs.texas.gov\/news-alerts\/measles-outbreak-feb-14-2025\">the case count has now reached 48 and spread to three nearby counties<\/a>, which also have vaccination rates below the 95 percent threshold that prevent vaccine-preventable diseases from spreading onward.<\/p>\n<p>Gaines now reports 42 cases. There&#8217;s one case reported in Lynn County to the northeast, which has a 91 percent vaccination rate. Terry County, with a vaccination rate of 94 percent, reports three cases, and Yoakum County, with a vaccination rate of 92.5 percent, reports two cases.
