The widescreen Windows remake adds high frame rate support and lets you zoom out to view a larger portion \u2014 or even all \u2014 of Koholint Island. But the game may not last long as Nintendo has a habit of <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2016-09-05-nintendo-issues-dmca-takedown-for-hundreds-of-fan-games.html\">crushing copyright-infringing fan games<\/a>, even when crafted lovingly and offered for free like this one.<\/p>\n<p><a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VinciusMedeiro6\/status\/1734968463754494057\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VinciusMedeiro6\/status\/1734968463754494057\">Spotted on<\/a> X (alongside a <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/zelda\/23999656\/zelda-links-awakening-dx-hd-pc-port\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/zelda\/23999656\/zelda-links-awakening-dx-hd-pc-port\">writeup<\/a> by <em>Polygon<\/em>), <em>Link\u2019s Awakening DX HD<\/em> is a love letter to the 1993 original and its 1998 color re-release. The unofficial port recreates the <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-06-13-the-legend-of-zelda-links-awakening-nintendo-switch-demo.html\">quirky Zelda installment<\/a> with 120 frames per second (FPS) support, which the developer describes as adding \u201cunparalleled fluidity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The homebrew port also gets rid of the original\u2019s transitions, which loaded a new screen every time you walked to the next one (old-school Zelda style). This isn\u2019t a static perspective, either. Each visible section is fully activated (as if Link were on it in the original) and swarming with enemies. You can move around in the panned-out views, swinging your sword at Moblins and searching for the next task without pausing to consult a static game map.<\/p>\n<p>The game\u2019s developer posted the 90s love letter anonymously, likely to shield them (for a time, anyway) from Nintendo\u2019s <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2018-08-29-pokemon-essentials-nintendo-takedown.html\">litigation-happy<\/a> legal team. The 24 MB <em>Link\u2019s Awakening DX HD<\/em> is a <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:7;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/linksawakeningdxhd.itch.io\/links-awakening-dx-hd\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/linksawakeningdxhd.itch.io\/links-awakening-dx-hd\">free download on itch.io<\/a>, but we wouldn\u2019t count on it staying there for much longer.
