Start by guessing a five-letter word. The letters of the word will turn green if they\u2019re correct, yellow if you have the right letter in the wrong place, or gray if the letter isn\u2019t in the day\u2019s secret word at all. We\u2019ll define common letters as those that appear in the old typesetters\u2019 phrase<\/u><\/a> ETAOIN SHRDLU. (Memorize this! Pronounce it \u201cEdwin Shirdloo,\u201d like a name, and pretend he\u2019s a friend of yours.)<\/p>\n

Only three of our letter slots are filled with common letters; the other two I\u2019d say are neither unusual nor common.<\/p>\n

How I solved today\u2019s Wordle<\/h2>\n

The yellow S and E from ARISE are promising, but I need more information before I start guessing. The lack of any hits at all on TOUCH was interesting. Where else can I put that E besides at the end of the word? Might it be doubled? I try SEEDY, and that told me that the word does <\/em>have two E\u2019s, and they must be in the middle of the word: S_EE_. Looks like it must be SLEEP!<\/p>\n
