I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve seen it before, and I&#8217;m also sure you watch the whole thing whenever it happens to be on. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream:<\/strong> Max, TNT, TBS, TruTV<\/p>\n<h2><em>Christmas with the Kranks<\/em> (2004)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-KTzyGuB9V6c\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>In <em>Christmas with the Kranks<\/em>, a family throws together a last-minute Christmas for their grown-up child. It&#8217;s not important. But <em>Christmas Vacation<\/em> is funny enough to watch and light enough to ignore when you&#8217;re wrapping presents. It&#8217;s also the most action-packed film in the entire genre. Bruce Willis is amazing, and the &#8220;average Joe who gets into a huge situation&#8221; plot goes down smooth. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Starz, DirecTV<\/p>\n<h2><em>Eight Crazy Nights<\/em> (2002)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-VoFIpnSGnZk\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>There aren&#8217;t many movies about Hanukkah, so this animated Adam Sandler vehicle is a bit of a classic by default. It&#8217;s delightfully stupid Christmas fun. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Disney+<\/p>\n<h2><em>The Family Stone <\/em>(2005)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-ps8DhuMfScQ\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>Every year, dozens of filmmakers go down in flames trying to capture the subtle mixture of drama, laughs, and pathos that makes a holiday movie a classic. <em>The Family Stone<\/em> is one of the rare flicks that gets the recipe right. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Fubo<\/p>\n<h2><em>Friday After Next <\/em>(2002)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-H3g5QQynaJk\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Friday After Next<\/em> isn&#8217;t usually thought of as a Christmas movie, but the holiday is integral to the plot. The third flick in Ice Cube&#8217;s Friday series begins with Craig and Day-Day&#8217;s apartment being robbed by a guy in a Santa suit, setting in motion a slew of <em>Friday<\/em> style antics centered on Christmas. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream:<\/strong> Tubi<\/p>\n<h2><em>Frosty the Snowman <\/em>(1969)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-v21UuibZ7ig\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Frosty<\/em> came out in a time when there were only three channels, so kids liked things on TV because they were the only things that were on the TV. It&#8217;s my pick for a future classic. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream:<\/strong> Hulu<\/p>\n<h2><em>The Holiday <\/em>(2006)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-wk9caHO3pW0\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>Like the best Christmas movies, this frothy, appreciate-what-you-got romantic comedy will charm you, even if you&#8217;re desperately trying to prevent yourself from being charmed. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Fubo, Starz, AMC+, DirecTV<\/p>\n<h2><em>Holiday Affair <\/em>(1949)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-0kdi0TkL3wU\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>Robert Mitchum plays against type by not being creepy in this lighthearted romantic comedy from the golden age of Hollywood. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Max<\/p>\n<h2><em>Home Alone<\/em> (1990)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-jEDaVHmw7r4\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>The story of eight-year-old Kevin McCallister being abandoned by his parents and stalked by hardened criminals could easily have been a horror movie, but instead, it&#8217;s a Christmas classic. Movies are wild like that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Disney+, Fubo, Starz, DirecTV<\/p>\n<h2><em>How the Grinch Stole Christmas<\/em> (1966)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-ppWrbYC3WwQ\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>I love any Christmas movie that acknowledges the misanthropes out there, and the Grinch is so hateful, his name has become synonymous with disdain for the holidays. You know you&#8217;re going to watch it, so just give in. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Prime Video<\/p>\n<h2><em>Jack Frost<\/em> (1998)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-orPZ0BMUI7k\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>Holiday classics get that way either because they&#8217;re great movies, or you happened to see them at the right time in your life. <em>Jack Frost <\/em>seems more like the latter to me, but it&#8217;s a lot of people&#8217;s go-to sentimental Christmas flick, so who am I to argue?<\/p>\n<h2><em>Jingle All the Way <\/em>(1996)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-jhJYMEzQA-Q\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>Arnold Schwarzenegger drops the action-hero act in this fast-paced, slapstick comedy about consumerism and the holidays. It&#8217;s not going to change anyone&#8217;s life, but it&#8217;s a perfectly paced and seamlessly constructed artifact from big 1990s Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Disney+, DirecTV<\/p>\n<h2><em>Klaus <\/em>(2019)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-taE3PwurhYM\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>Christmas stories about &#8220;How Christmas came to be the way it is&#8221; seem very 1960s, but this beautifully animated Netflix feature brings the genre back in a big way by telling the story of Santa&#8217;s team-up with an unlikely ally.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream:<\/strong> Netflix<\/p>\n<h2><em>Last Holiday <\/em>(2006)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-JO0NSRPcPFs\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>Driven by the star power of Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, and Timothy Hutton this Christmas movie extols the virtues of living for the moment. Queen Latifah&#8217;s performance as a woman who reacts to a terminal diagnosis by saying, &#8220;I guess I&#8217;ll have fun until I die&#8221; is amazing. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream:<\/strong> Paramount+, PlutoTV<\/p>\n<h2><em>Let It Snow<\/em> (2019)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-pitxxQYZcug\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>This movie breaks the mold by mashing up the teen-romance genre with the snow and tinsel tropes of the holiday movie genre. (But don&#8217;t watch the version from the 1990s. There&#8217;s a <em>limit<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to stream<\/strong>: Disney+, Prime Video<\/p>\n<h2><em>The Muppet Christmas Carol <\/em>(1992)<\/h2>\n<div class=\"mx-auto mt-8 w-full max-w-4xl\">\n<div id=\"video-container-u1YumE28SPw\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>Like Bill Murray&#8217;s <em>Scrooged<\/em>, <em>The Muppet Christmas Carol <\/em>is different enough from other film adaptations of Dickens&#8217; tale to not be lumped in with the others, mainly because most of the cast is made of felt.
