The company suggested the bugs had been actively deployed in the wild. \u201cApple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.1,\u201d the company <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:1;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT214031\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT214031\">wrote<\/a> about both flaws in its security <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT214032\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT214032\">reports<\/a>. Software updates plugging the holes are now available for the iPhone, iPad and Mac.<\/p>\n<p>Researcher Cl\u00e9ment Lecigne of <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/an-email-vulnerability-let-hackers-steal-data-from-governments-around-the-world-160005510.html\">Google\u2019s Threat Analysis Group<\/a> (TAG) is credited with discovering and reporting both exploits. As <em>Bleeping Computer<\/em> <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/apple\/apple-fixes-two-new-ios-zero-days-in-emergency-updates\/\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/apple\/apple-fixes-two-new-ios-zero-days-in-emergency-updates\/\">notes<\/a>, the team at Google TAG often finds and exposes zero-day bugs against high-risk individuals, like politicians, journalists and dissidents. Apple didn\u2019t reveal specifics about the nature of any attacks using the flaws.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The two security flaws affected <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/google-chrome-blink-ios-experiment-220001141.html\">WebKit<\/a>, Apple\u2019s open-source browser framework powering Safari. In Apple\u2019s description of the first bug, it said, \u201cProcessing web content may disclose sensitive information.\u201d In the second, it wrote, \u201cProcessing web content may lead to arbitrary code execution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The security patches cover the \u201ciPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and later, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 6th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The odds your devices were affected by either of these are extremely minimal, so there\u2019s no need to panic \u2014 but, to be safe, it would be wise to update your Apple gear now. You can update your iPhone or iPad immediately by heading to <strong>Settings &gt; General &gt; Software Update<\/strong> and tapping the prompt to initiate it. On Mac, go to <strong>System Settings &gt; General &gt; Software Update<\/strong> and do the same.
