Kan\u2019s departure comes just a day after the company\u2019s CEO Kyle Vogt <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/cruises-kyle-vogt-resigns-as-ceo-of-the-robotaxi-company-041949493.html\"><ins>announced his resignation<\/ins><\/a> on X after a 10-year tenure. Kan is said to have announced his resignation over Slack, however, the reasoning for his departure has not been made clear by the company.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s executive reshuffling follows a public relations nightmare that started last month when a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/a-pedestrian-was-pinned-under-a-cruise-robotaxi-after-another-cars-hit-and-run-180404816.html\"><ins>Cruise robotaxi<\/ins><\/a> hit a pedestrian in San Francisco and pinned them under the vehicle. The parent company, GM, is still conducting a safety probe on the accident and <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/cruise-is-also-pausing-its-manned-robotaxi-rides-for-a-full-safety-review-040140791.html\"><ins>both autonomous and manual<\/ins><\/a> vehicle operations at Cruise remain suspended. The company\u2019s public image has been reeling from the accident ever since, and about <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/gm-recalls-nearly-1000-cruise-robotaxis-after-pedestrian-collision-183049933.html\"><ins>950 robotaxis<\/ins><\/a> had to be recalled by GM. The California DMV suspended Cruises\u2019 driverless permits shortly after, and that ruling has remained in place.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"e8b9fc98747b45198436addfcdc0227c\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">(1\/6) We learned today at 10:30 am PT of the California DMV\u2019s suspension of our driverless permits. As a result, we will be pausing operations of our driverless AVs in San Francisco. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/A5HAV2WUv7\">https:\/\/t.co\/A5HAV2WUv7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 cruise (@Cruise) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cruise\/status\/1716877217995894934?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 24, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>In a recent tweet, Cruise said that the company is focused on taking steps \u201cto rebuild public trust.\u201d Things have yet to look up for the company, especially after an expose by <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2023\/11\/06\/cruise-self-driving-cars-children\/\"><em><ins>The Intercept <\/ins><\/em><\/a>revealed that the company knew its self-driving cars have trouble recognizing children and <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/things-are-going-from-bad-to-worse-for-cruises-robotaxis-094529914.html\"><ins>large holes in the roads<\/ins><\/a>. Furthermore, the former CEO <a data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/cruise-is-reportedly-planning-to-lay-off-employees-after-weeks-of-crises-195546324.html\"><ins>said that<\/ins><\/a> the company would have to lay off an undisclosed number of employees and staff members in a memo.<\/p>\n<p>Cruise has not made any statements about finding replacements for either its CEO or chief product officer as of yet.
