Adding a filesystem, which typically involved<br \/>\nbuying a new drive, happened rarely.  In contrast, contemporary systems<br \/>\nwith a large number of containers can have a long and dynamic list of<br \/>\nmounted filesystems.  As was <a href=\"https:\/\/lwn.net\/Articles\/934469\/\">discussed<\/a> at<br \/>\nthe <a href=\"https:\/\/lwn.net\/Articles\/lsfmmbpf2023\/\">2023 LSFMM+BPF Summit<\/a>, the Linux<br \/>\nkernel&#8217;s mechanism for providing information about mounted filesystems has<br \/>\nnot kept up with this change, leading to system-management headaches.
