Cruise hasn\u2019t yet decided who or how many people will lose their jobs, Vogt said, but promised to provide more details in the next three weeks. The company will also conduct internal \u201clistening sessions\u201d, and explore building websites detailing collisions Cruise cars are involved in, Forbes said.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes on the heels of <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/things-are-going-from-bad-to-worse-for-cruises-robotaxis-094529914.html\">multiple crises<\/a> facing the company since October after a Cruise robotaxi dragged a San Francisco pedestrian thrown into its path more than 20 feet before braking to a halt. That incident caused California\u2019s DMV to revoke Cruise\u2019s operating permit in the state. In a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/news-and-media\/dmv-statement-on-cruise-llc-suspension\/\">statement<\/a>, the DMV said that Cruise\u2019s vehicles \u201care not safe for the public\u2019s operation\u201d, and said that Cruise had \u201cmisrepresented\u201d information relating to the safety of its autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"end-legacy-contents\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Weeks after the incident, Cruise, which operated in San Francisco, Austin, Houston, Dallas, Miami, and Phoenix, fully paused its driverless operations. This week, General Motors <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/gm-recalls-nearly-1000-cruise-robotaxis-after-pedestrian-collision-183049933.html\">recalled<\/a> Cruise\u2019s entire fleet of 950 robotaxis.<\/p>\n<p>Other <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2023\/11\/06\/cruise-self-driving-cars-children\/\">reports<\/a>, based on Cruise&#8217;s internal safety documents, showed that the car\u2019s algorithms had trouble identifying children, something that Cruise employees knew about.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Cruise published a<a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/getcruise.com\/news\/blog\/2023\/important-updates-from-cruise\/\"> blog post<\/a> responding to the recent events. The company said that it was looking to hire a Chief Safety Officer who would report directly to Vogt. Cruise will also hire a third-party law firm to review its response to the October incident.
