The order is reportedly scheduled for Monday, October 30, two days before an <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"no-affiliate-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/ai-safety-summit-introduction\/ai-safety-summit-introduction-html\" data-original-link=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/ai-safety-summit-introduction\/ai-safety-summit-introduction-html\">international AI Safety Summit<\/a> in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The order will allegedly require advanced AI models to undergo a series of assessments before federal agencies can adopt them. In addition, it would ease immigration for highly skilled workers, which was <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017-04-03-us-visa-program-cracks-down-on-employers.html\">heavily restricted<\/a> during the Trump administration. Federal agencies, including the Defense Department, Energy Department and intelligence branches, would also have to assess how they might incorporate AI into their work. The US Congress is also in the earlier stages of drafting AI regulations. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/the-us-senate-and-silicon-valley-reconvene-for-a-second-ai-insight-forum-143128622.html\">hosted AI leaders on Tuesday<\/a> at the second AI Insights Forum.<\/p>\n<p>AI regulation is currently one of the most buzzed-about topics in the tech world. Generative AI has rapidly advanced in the last two years as image generators like <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/midjourney-ends-free-trials-of-its-ai-image-generator-due-to-extraordinary-abuse-153853905.html\">Midjourney<\/a> and <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/chatgpt-live-web-browsing-exits-beta-dall-e-3-enters-beta-182303115.html\">DALL-E 3<\/a> emerged, producing convincing photos that could be disseminated for disinformation and propaganda (as some <a data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/the-desantis-campaign-used-ai-generated-images-to-attack-trump-062923571.html\">political campaigns have already done<\/a>). There are even AI models for <a data-i13n=\"cpos:13;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/the-ai-generated-fake-drake-and-the-weeknd-track-is-not-eligible-for-a-grammy-200924948.html\">cloning celebrities\u2019 voices<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to misinformation and its potential impact on elections, generative AI also sparks worries about the job market, especially for artists, graphic designers, developers and writers.
